Brooklyn's Dead Leaf Echo tapped dream-pop wizard Ulrich Schnauss on this remix of the band's title track "Pale Fire." Most of Pale Fire , out now on Year of the Gallon, reminisces in Cocteau Twins etherealism emoting rich jangly guitars and shuffling drums. But Schnauss deepens the mood by adding trailed vocal effects to the syrupy rhythm, which creates a heavier, and better, feel. [...]
The 70s and 80s had a lot of good, innovative music. It only makes sense that modern bands would try to emulate the sounds that skyrocketed groups like The Cure and Depeche Mode to a level of success that allows them to sell out tours even to this day. However, with all the great music [...]

Ever noticed how muffins have turned into pastries? If you go into most coffee shops and ask for a muffin, there isn't much to differentiate it from an actual cupcake: super-sugary and ultra moist, injected with all sorts of jams and fillings, built up on empty calories. Seems to me a muffin has to be hearty, grainy, adorned with a few dried fruit or nuts, thusly capable of sustaining one's appetite from breakfast to lunchtime. You don't hold over to lunch on cake. Cake's not a solution. You don't have cake for breakfast. Except [...]
A wave of sound has emerged in New York, slowly swelling and sweeping you into the beautiful dreamscape created by nu-gaze three piece Dead Leaf Echo . LG, Mike DiLalla, and Liza B have manged to mirror the epic sonic wash-out created by such pioneers as Lush and Swervedriver on their new EP, Pale Fire . The title track from the EP featured here was the sole entry mixed by Ulrich Schnauss, German musician and producer (Depeche Mode, Coldplay, Mojave 3), and released on Dead Leaf Echo's own label, Year of the Gallon Records. [...]
Half Man Half Biscuit - Blue Badge Abuser (Probe Plus) Taken from the new album "CSI Ambleside". Buy Here Bardot Pond - A Tune (Three Lobed Recordings) Taken from the new mini album thingy "Batholith" which is apparently just a small compilation of stuff they just had lying around. There are only six tracks on here but every one's a winner. The Wedding Present - Boo Boo (Pinnacle) Another track from the new album "El Ray". Out 26th April. [...]

Yeah, The Cure are in the area, but there is a hell of a lot going on elsewhere too. Several other huge acts are gracing us with their presence. Saturday in Atlantic City at the House of Blues is chanteuse Regina Spektor . Or if you like Kanye West and N.E.R.D. , warm the Nissan Pavilion stage up Saturday before the big show Sunday. And of course, Radiohead is in Northern Virginia Sunday at Nissan. Opening is Liars . Liars - Army of Me (Bjork Cover, thanks to Stereogum) [...]

The time has come to start cleaning house...it really is impossible to keep up at times. One weekend away and I find myself not able to meet deadlines on this week's podcast (amongst other things). It's a beautiful thing is what it is! Once upon a time I searched high and low to find material to write about...now, my cup floweth over. You know the routine, folks : If you find any of the following songs pleasurable, let us know which one and why you enjoyed it. If enough of you (5 or more) enjoy one [...]

For those who are still craving for the glory days of the 4AD label: Dead Leaf Echo , a stylish NYC trio is the kind of band that will satisfy your needs for dreamy indie rock with plenty snob appeal. Their new EP Pale Fire brings back the likes of Dead Can Dance and Lush. Thye enlisted Ulrich Schnauss (Depeceh Mode, Coldplay) to handle the mix of the title track. Pale Fire is a superb shoegaze EP, with Liza B's voice serving as a warm blanket to LG [...]

Kicking off this week is the new EP, titled Pale Fire , from the NYC trio Dead Leaf Echo . The disc, which was released on March 24th through Year of the Gallon, is a set of six vibrant but yet moody songs that should easily spark the attention of fans of dream-pop/shoegaze. Diving back into the genres earlier days, Pale Fire shares the same sort of glimmering sound that bands like Slowdive and/or Lush (sans Guthrie production) managed to excel in creating during [...]
The Despised, from Atlanta, formed way back in the mid-90's and released a few 7"s before calling it a day in 2000, but they regrouped in 2005 and this is their first full-length release: "Punk, It's Not For Rich Kid$ Anymore!" Expect 14 tracks of generally short, fast, aggressive ...

New York, NY Dead Leaf Echo is very retro sounding to me - suggested for anyone who loves the early days of modern rock. "Poison Lips" Dead Leaf Echo on MySpace
Neat band name. Dead Leaf Echo contacted me a few weeks ago, and I was really glad because I fell for the music almost immediately. It's really neat. The tracks I have are pretty mellow, yet powerful, I think. It reminds me of Bloc Party, but DLF is more organic and unplugged. Here are the songs Walking Away and Shell of Love from their album, Faint Violet Whiff. Shell of Love Walking Away Check them out in iTunes . [...]

Ah isn't it nice when something free and good drops through your letterbox? The latest greatest cd to be sent my way by a new band comes from New York's Dead Leaf Echo. They've just released a new mini album, the frankly ill-advisedly titled Faint Violet Whiff on Year Of The Gallon records, and despite the dodgy name I've really rathered enjoyed it. Taking in elements of The Cure, Bunnymen, Joy Division and other 80s miserable types, they're clearly still developing, and yet can be said to have a nice distinct sound that isn't so derivative that you [...]
