Thanks to the people at Killbeat Music for letting me check out this band from Australia. They are the Dead Letter Chorus . The band will be touring across Canada in March (Ottawa March 25th opening up for Two Hours Traffic ) and parts of April. The August Magnificent is their debut album. Surprised that this album came out in 2008. Its filled with great folk-acoustic-rock tunes. The standout track is "Chasing Hearts". The members consist of: Gabrielle Huber Cameron Potts Michael Faber [...]

Sydney's Dead Letter Chorus released their wonderful debut album The August Magnificent here in Oz in 2008, but they've recently scored themselves a record deal that will see it released in Canada on March 16. Thanks to the wonders of twitter, I was also alerted to a new video that the band have put together for 'Down In Your Valley'. Check out our stop motion clip for "Down In Your Valley" - filmed in our backyard. Cost us $20. I love this video, it's [...]

I've been a fan of Dead Letter Chorus since I saw them live earlier this year in Melbourne, along with Canada's Hey Rosetta. They were kind enough to send me a Christmas present, which was nice and all but kinda rude too because now I feel bad since I didn't get them anything. Gabby Huber, who shares lead vocal duties with fellow band member Cameron Potts, recorded this gorgeous version of 'Silent Night' below. Take a listen - the girl sure can sing, make no mistake. There's no instrumentation apart from that voice and some ethereal [...]

I've written about Dead Letter Chorus before after seeing them live in Melbourne back in January where I was mesmorised by their boy/girl harmonies, building tempos and general sweetness. They're actually playing a couple of shows in my area this weekend that I won't be able to get to, so I've been torturing consoling myself by watching youtube videos of them instead. This outdoor performance in Sydney of 'Magnolia Farm' is just gorgeous and it breaks my heart a little that I won't be reliving it live this weekend. [...]

" It's got a little bit of attitude in it, I guess. I didn't realise it at the time, yet I was doing an interview the other day and it was mentioned how we had a bit of progressive rock element and a little bit of anger. Something that, let's say, Beasts of Bourbon have or what not. Just a little bit of extra energy and power in our music. " - Cameron Potts of Dead Letter Chorus from FasterLouder Here's something from them I'd throw closer to the piano rock basket than prog rock. [...]

The night before the much lauded Frightened Rabbit performance, Elspeth and I and our friend Pedro headed to the same venue, the Northcote Social Club. Going by the name, we were expecting an RSL type venue, with pokies and a bistro and stuff, but it is actually a really well set up pub, with a bar in the front, a beer garden out the back and a seperate band room which is fairly small, but can easily accommodate a few hundred people. We had come to check out Aussie indie rock/folk five-piece Dead Letter Chorus , who [...]
Down In Your Valley is the first track to emerge from the Sydney group's debut album, The August Magnificent , which will officially get launched this Saturday at the Annandale Hotel . You can listen to some more tracks from the album over at the band's MySpzzzz page.

It's a simple fact of life that Spoon are great. In a sane world every person would be humming their tunes all day long. Well by now you probably are aware that their new album "Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga" will drop in July on Merge Records . Well for your listening pleasure I have a new track from the album "The Ghost Of You Lingers". I think it's great, just an incessant piano with Britt's haunting vocals. A beautiful, mysterious sound.
