8PM. Ottobar. Remington, Baltimore. 2549 N. Howard St. Best Coast Dead Melotron Crimson Wave "Drawing inspiration from '60s surf rock and girl groups, Best Coast's noisy lo-fi sound gave a nod to contemporaneous acts like Hot Lava, the Vivian Girls, and Brilliant Colors." -All Music

Sure, it takes 45 seconds of distant guitar highway noise for Dead Mellotron 's "Weird Dreams" to get underway, but eventually it unfolds in the tradition of slow-drive singles like Washed Out remix Small Black 's "Despicable Dogs". The first drum hits even recall moments of "Where Is My Mind?" for their shared shrugging sense of the impending disaster. This most definitely isn't the part where you feel better; it's where you learn to live with feeling worse. "Weird Dreams" rings with bits shoegaze and dream-pop, airplane hanger acoustics and underwater reverb, a world full [...]

Dead Mellotron - Weird Dreams Been trading emails with CC , part of this Baltimore-based shoegaze trio and creator of their album artwork. When I asked her to tell me more about their dreamy sound, she told me “I ‘m just a fucked up lovesick little girl stuck in an adult body trying to live some weird peter pan fairy tale.” Oddly, I can relate . She’d like to let listeners create their own story out of the songs, so explaining the meaning of, say, [...]

Loyal defenders of all that is shoegaze, London label/night Sonic Cathedral's Nathaniel Cramp curates a playlist especially for The G-Man blog... A once-off club night to celebrate Swedish shoegaze shamans The Radio Dept that happened to snowball into a full-blown record label, "the label that celebrates itself" prepares to turn nine years old in October, a ripe old age in modern times. SC's head priest Nathaniel Cramp preaches ten fuzzy hymns below that should be indoctrinated by one and all. Response: [...]

Baltimore shoegazers Dead Mellotron casually dropped a new EP last week. The four track release is called ' (is/it) ' and kicks off with ' Fade In/Out ' ( download here ). Once again the trio morphs their sound, this time towards droning, lo-fi, dream pop. '(is/it)' is a blissed out listen, less guitar focused, but just as engaging as ever. Shoegaze is a loaded label, term, genre. And a list of contemporary shoegaze acts must be all about emulating the good ole' days - right!? Well, hopefully this list proves otherwise. Despite the fact that reverb and noise are in abundance, its still all about the songs. In 2012 there was plenty of golden songs, with or without the tremolo riding, pitch bending tendencies, these songs stand their ground. Without further preaching, here's SBWR's Best Shoegaze Albums Of 2012 . Please click through and add your favourite record/s so we can all be better informed. Plus, if [...]

"Fuzzed out pop confections from Chicago," reads the Facebook bio of Slushy . While I'm not sure fuzzed out is the appropriate descriptor (especially after writing up The Funs yesterday), I'd say they're talking at the overall extra-crispy production to their tunes, which give their jangly pop songs an overall scrappy tone. On their new record, All The Rad Dudes , which officially drops today, Slushy impresses with a retro '60s garage slacker vibe. "I'm A Disaster" rattles away with its three chord melody, and "I Love The Beatles" is [...]

by Andrew Sacher DOWNLOAD: Dead Mellotron - "Stranger" (MP3) Dead Mellotron hail from the ever-expanding Baltimore scene of bands who love reverb (like Beach House and Lower Dens who play Central Park Summerstage tonight ). Their most recent release is the Glitter LP, which you can stream or download for $5.99 at their bandcamp , and though their ties to the Baltimore scene are worth [...]

Jam City Looking back on the albums we've covered over the last six months to think about some of our favourite LPs of the year so far has been strangely difficult - there's been a distinct lack of really 'big' releases that have caught the ear (compared to this point in 2010 and 2011, for instance) but still a wealth of really great albums that made it difficult to narrow things down to any coherent, 'statement' list. As a result, we've gone for records that might not be the big consensus choices, but which are representative [...]

'Glitter' is one of my favourite releases this year. No question. I've been itching to post 'Babe' and since the 'Glitter' vinyl was released today, I finally can. The release was delayed due to the special pressing on clear vinyl (with real glitter sleeve). Orders should now be in the post *eyes mailbox*. Dead Mellotron 's 'Glitter' is a must listen for shoegaze fans, full of swooning guitars, delicate melodies and unassuming brilliance. The only problem is that it could have been longer (just seven tracks) but nevertheless it isn't lacking depth. 'Babe' isn't necessarily the stand out track but [...]

Dead Mellotron - Glitter By Antonio Tzikas What can I say about Dead Mellotron ? I've never heard of them and know nothing about them, not even their label knows much about them. The story goes that they were picked up by Sonic Cathedral on the strength of some Myspace demos, and after a bit of e-mailing tracks back and forth and back and forth, they've arrived at this, their debut album. It clocks in at under 30 minutes and contains only seven tracks, segued together with instumental interludes [...]

Baltimore trio Dead Mellotron digitally released their sublimely written and executed third record, Glitter a couple of weeks back and we can report its an absolute stunner. Containing an all too brief seven tracks that run under thirty minutes, Dead Mellotron can be forgiven for the brevity by the very fact that not a second of its 29 and a half minutes is wasted and every possible space is filled with lush atmospheric [...]
