The Brooklyn What: April 21, 2013 Bowery Ballroom – Flac/MP3/Streaming

[photos by PSquared Photography ] If you're the opening act and at the end of your set the crowd is literally chanting the name of your band, you're doing something right. A couple of weeks back, the Brooklyn What opened for Dead Milkmen at Bowery Ballroom and their set was so damned entertaining that there was a mosh pit, stage diving and yes indeed, as you can hear at the end of the recording, the crowd chanting their name. The Brooklyn What are an amalgam of styles, with influences as wide at the [...]

Dead Milkmen played Bowery Ballroom (pics, setlist, audio) photos by PSquared Photography Dead Milkmen @ Bowery Ballroom 4/21/2013 Unburdened by industry pressures and aided by decades of life experience, the Dead Milkmen are back as live performers to where they were in the late 80s, a relaxed humorous group of regular guys who also happen to be an extremely entertaining band. At Bowery Ballroom on Sunday night, a packed crowd saw the band work through an excellent selection of choice older material mixed in with some new songs, [...]

Rediscovered Video: “Punk Rock Girl” (Club MTV) & Free Download: Live at Bowery Ballroom - The Dead Milkmen

Rediscovered Video: “Punk Rock Girl” (Club MTV) & Free Download: Live at Bowery Ballroom - The Dead Milkmen Last night, The Dead Milkmen provided one of the most hilarious moments during LOUD! FAST! PHILLY! at PhilaMOCA. We got to see footage of their appearance on Club MTV where Rodney Anonymous attempted to handcuff himself to Downtown Julie Brown after their performance. (BTW: We were informed that she hated them.) Special thanks to Video Pirates for sharing this clip below. Also NYC Taper (a.k.a. Dan Lynch) just posted a recording of the band's recent set on April 21, 2013 at Bowery Ballroom that is available for free download [...]

Dead Milkmen: April 21, 2013 Bowery Ballroom – Flac/MP3/Streaming

[photos by PSquared Photography ] The old corporate music industry used to do this band-kill all the time - label a legitimate band the "next big thing", turn their career upside down and ultimately cause them to crash and burn. The most extreme example is the Bangles, who went from LA paisley-folkies to glamor girls to defunct in about two years. After several excellent albums and a few breakthrough songs, in 1991 the Dead Milkmen went through the music industry meat grinder, and did not survive. The band broke up in the mid-90s and [...]

Listen to Rodney Anonymous’ remix of the old Dead Milkmen song “Belafonte’s Inferno”

Even though The Dead Milkmen are widely celebrated as a lively satirical punk rock act, if you follow vocalist Rodney Anonymous on Twitter, you know his taste runs all across the board - and strongly centers around nihilistic electronic-industrial music, often stuff from northeastern Europe, often very dark and danceable. So today, apropos of nothing, ... Continue reading

Dead Milkmen, Women, BK Friendly Live In Philly (7/27/12)

Dead Milkmen, Women, BK Friendly Live In Philly (7/27/12) This past Friday night, I may have pissed off some friends.  They JUST arrived into town, but I had a prior date with The Dead Milkmen... sorry friends.  I headed out to Philly's Union Transfer for AnchorFest, a memorial for Dan Krawiec and was being headlined by The Dead Milkmen.  I got there right in time for BK Friendly. BK Friendly: I never heard of BK Friendly before, but this solo project by Ben Kravitz (the guy who actually booked the show) said every song he was going to play that night [...]

Weekend Warrior, July 27 - 29

Weekend Warrior, July 27 - 29 Anchor Fest , held tonight at Union Transfer, is a memorial show for Daniel James Krawiec, a.k.a. Dan K., a beloved member of Philly's music scene who passed away on April 28. This show was organized by his brother, with the bands in the lineup all picked for the roles they played in Dan's life. Some he supported, played in, toured with, and others he just plain loved. There's The Great Northern (his band, with his brother filling in and also doing a solo performance), solo hip-hop act [...]

Tonight’s Concert Picks: Anchorfest ft. The Dead Milkmen and more at Union Transfer, Crash Course in Science and Psychic Teens at Vox Populi Gallery

Dan Krawiec was a musician, a DJ, a writer, and a friend. Music was his life and he was beloved by many in Philadelphia who knew him as "Dan K", an inspiration and a big piece of the philly punk and indie scene for years. He also worked at Rustica Pizza in Northern Liberties and would be seen ... Continue reading
