Hey! I should hate this! The Hot Toddies - HTML (mp3) ( buy ) It's over-cute, faux-clever. I should hate The Hot Toddies ( myspace ). The NoCal gals' gentle delivery and casual ambition make Smell the Mitten - Spinal Tap nod noted - come off like a nudging, winking lark. But that lack of self-seriousness comes bundled with some great harmonies, a willingness to genre-dabble, and an overall competence. The stuff gets more tolerable with each listen. [...]

N ot only is today Halloween, it is also my beautiful wife Amy's thirtieth (30th) birthday. That's a milestone that means, "Damn we are gettin' old!" At least I have a year to go. Anyhow, since I already had this post basically done prior to the death of my computer, all I have to do is hit the "publish" button and I'm done. Lucky me. Sometimes a little planning is a good thing. Anyhow, here are thirty songs for thirty years. All specifically for my wife and all with some [...]

Today is Labor Day, an annual holiday in honor of organized labor, but minus the creeping specter of socialism associated with May Day. Like the movement it commemorates, Labor Day has long since gotten away from its original purpose. Cut loose from its class struggle roots, it now serves as the demarcation line marking the spiritual end of the summer. Sure, the scientists would have us believe that the season doesn't official end until the autumnal equinox on September 23, but scientists also brought us slammable yogurt and hydrogen bombs, and so should not be trusted. Astronomical calendars [...]
A. Vampire Weekend - Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa . For fans of Paul Simon, Beach Boys and some others. Fun band live. (bonus song cause he mentions Jersey.) Vampire Weekend - Walcott B. the Dead Milkmen - Ringo Buys a Rifle . What happens when Ringo does finally buy a rifle. C. Bloc Party - Secrets . A bside. Song: Bitchin' Camaro Artist: The Dead Milkmen Album: Big Lizard in my Backyard (1985) Comments: The Dead Milkmen formed in the early 80's in Phili, mixture of punk, rockabilly, with a generous smattering of tongue in cheek political, religious, and general humor. Influenced by a variety of local and national punk acts they launched onto the scene with no less than four self-released cassette tapes (Funky Farm, Death Rides a Pale Cow, Take the Airwaves, and Someone Shot Sunshine) and immediately made their mark as a Phili [...]

Ordinarily this would not warrant mention on ninebullets but our new editor reminded me of a certain Dead Milkmen song last night. So, Charles Nelson Reilly died earlier this week at the age of 76 and ninebullets. net offers tribute in the form of song: Serrated Edge by the Dead Milkmen Up on the hilltop where the vultures perch, That's where I'm gonna build my church, Ain't gonna be no priest, ain't gonna be no boss; Just Charles Nelson Reilly nailed to a [...]
Horatio J. Hoodoo, we'll miss you. The Dead Milkmen - Serrated Edge...
Not too long ago, Maura and I were discussing the sense of popcult awareness that is the blessing and curse of our generation, and where it originated from, hipster affectations of camp notwithstanding. It's hard to remember those times now, but there was a time before narrowcasting -- fueled by the rise of cable TV subscriptions and VCR's in every home -- when one's viewing options were limited to whatever PBS, the three networks, and the handful of local market UHF stations felt like playing. This was also before the Reagan era deregulatory policies allowing infomercials and toy [...]

1. I want to bring your attention to a new-to-me blog Aural Fitness . It's very similar in content to this one, posting on songs done by the Clash, Brother Ali, and more. I'm recommending the blog because I just discovered it and really like it, not just because they gave me shout-outs. There's something weird about it-like they don't accept comments unless you register or something-but go check it out. Plus, they actually posted the Ben Gibbard cover of Billy Bragg's St. Swithin's Day that I said I'd posted but never did. [...]

Те, кто панковал где-то в начале 90-х, должны, по идее, помнить эту группу. А уж если кто и помнит, то практически наверняка по альбому Big Lizard in My Backyard

A few days ago, on one of the message boards I frequent, a poster asked for some skaters from the 80's to suggest some tracks for an 80's skate compilation he was making. I went through my memories and listed 5 tapes that were always being played on my half-pipe as a kid. After I posted the list I noticed there was no Dead Milkmen on the list....anywhere. Well, perhaps because it is December and as the Counting Crows suggest, everyone is more nostalgic in December, or maybe because I don't think I've heard it in 10 years. So I [...]

This is a post I've been wanting to do for a while. A few months back as I was listening to "Beer for Breakfast" by the Replacements, I realized that there are a lot of wonderfully stupid songs out there ¬– songs whose subject matter is so crass, juvenile, and/or moronic that they induce guffaws and/or grins. Below are some that I found. If any one of you can think of others, let me know and I'll try to post 'em. STUPID SONG INSIGHT!!! Note that [...]

Today marks the twenty-ninth anniversary of Elvis Aaron Presley’s death. On August 16, 1977, the King’s heart, weakened by years of drug abuse and too many deep-fried sandwiches, gave out as he squatted on the toilet in his palatial estate; an absurd yet mythic death for an absurd yet mythic figure. It is Elvis’s role as a mythic figure that fascinates me. It is a tragic tale of celebrity and

As of today, my lovely wife and I have been married for four years. Where has the time gone? She is pictured below with our beautiful daughter Hailey Elyse. I thought it would be fitting to post a few songs that (whenever I hear them) remind me instantly of her. They are sappy and cheesy, but isn't that how love songs are supposed to be? MP3 [...]

richard prince last night i met up with josh to check out a new monday night party, and, um, it wasn't that good. so we ended up walking around trying to find a place to duck in for a drink. walked by beauty bar , and as i glanced in the window i was greeted with the sight of two enormous fake boobs. after heading inside (how could we not?) apparently adult film star gina lynn was doing some kind of [...]
Ok, as the title says these are bands that were formed in the year 1983. All the tracks are most likely not from that year (although all tracks were released sometime in the 80's) however; the band started in that year. My favorites out of this batch are General Public, Wire Train and Beat Farmers (who I saw live in the 80's while living in Dallas). Check em all out and enjoy! mp3 Big Rock Candy Mountain ( Beat Farmers ) mp3 No More War ( [...]
