This came down the pipeline last week, and I just had a listen to it. A mashup of the debut of the XX album with some of Notorious B.I.G.'s best. It's worth a listen. It's no Grey Album, but hey, what is? Here's the tracklist: 1. dead wrong intro 2. juicy-r 3. it's all about the crystalizabeths 4. islands is the limit (recommended) 5. one more chance for a heart to skip a beat (recommended) 6. suicidal fantasy 7. everyday shelter 8. basic hypnosis 9. infinite victory [...]
Maybe it was because one of America's musical capitols was represented in the game, but there just seemed to be more music in this Super Bowl. There was the perfunctory opening anthems and halftime show, songs in ads - The Who even managed to be the halftime show act and sneak into an ad. Whatever the reason, there was plenty of music throughout and we couldn't be happier about it. The record-breaking television audience that tuned in to Super Bowl XLIV were treated to a surprisingly indie soundtrack, featuring Arcade Fire [...]

Wyczekiwaniu... ( Hanover Street, Edinburgh ) Listen: Grizzly Bear Vs. Dead Prez - Two Weeks Of Hip-Hop (The Hood Internet) MP3: Grizzly Bear Vs. Dead Prez - Two Weeks Of Hip-Hop (The Hood Internet) Thanks to Pretty Much Amazing

I'm not usually into mash-ups but my friend Will sent me this a few weeks ago and I thought it was great. Dead Prez is an underground hip-hop group known for their socially conscious and politically charged lyrics. Though never achieving much commercial success they've garnered incredible respect an street credibility from both fans and fellow artist. Hip Hop, the most well known song from their 2000 LP Let's Get Free , is an attack on the commercialization and exploitation of hip hop. This song was written in 2000 so the downfall of Hip Hop had already begun with the [...]

The idea behind Local Pairings, as opposed to our usual Musical Pairings, is to pair a local band with a restaurant from that area, but not to suggest that they taste alike. So far, Local Pairings have focused primarily on the Bay Area's indie rock scene. The sole representative of the diverse Bay Area hip hop scene has been Controller 7's Left Handed Straw . And I acknowledge that the lack of local hip hop is a pretty egregious omission: hip hop is a huge part of the Bay Area music scene, especially hyphy. I'm excited to be [...]

When Leht asked me last week for a recommendation for what he should remix next in his 'remix a week' quest, I initially said Grizzly Bear's "Two Weeks" had my vote. That was, however, until a cursory search of the Hype Machine revealed the perfect remix had already been created. The Hood Internet threw the acapella from Dead Prez's classic anthem over the dreamy piano hooks of the Grizzly Bear tune, creating the perfect storm of hip-hop goodness. Here at PMA, we love our weekends. We like to catch a show or two, go to a movie, catch up with "RL" stuff, or just veg. With the exception of a podcast every now and then, you probably won't see a post on Sunday 'round here. I will let my blogfriends provide the goodies on Sunday. MFR has an mp3 for the Hood Internet's latest - "Two Weeks of Hip Hop" mashing Grizzly Bear and Dead Prez together. Groovy. Author insert a music with WS [...]
