Police discovered a 35-year-old farmer dead and extremely bloated at his property on Monday in Ystad, Sweden, this week, after he apparently bumped fuglys with a hornets' nest and sustained an insane number of stings. The man was simply known as "Hasse." Further explanation, courtesy of Metro UK, and it's gross: Following an autopsy that revealed Hasse had 146 stings on his body – 54 of those on his genitals – authorities came to the conclusion he tried to have sex with the hornets’ nest. Police are said to have found semen and the [...]

There was only ever one option for this week's Sunday Slaylist - a tribute to Jeff Hanneman, guitarist with Slayer, who tragically died this week aged just 49 years old . The influence of Slayer on metal cannot be understated - Hell, we pretty much named this entire feature in tribute to Slayer . As one of the principal songwriters in Slayer (just go check out the writing credits of..oh...well... pretty much every Slayer album if you don't believe us), it's fair [...]

Words by Mark Robinson Now this is an interesting one. Dead Gaze by Dead Gaze (the moniker for Mississippi’s R. Cole Furlow ) is a furious slice of noise-pop. The ‘noise’ this time round isn’t through the traditional means of many, many guitars being strangled though, instead it’s down to the production - in particular the bitcrusher plug-in being amped up to twelve. The end result is both a positive and detriment. The album has a very unique sound; it’s too harsh to be dream pop, [...]

Words by Chris Fear Grunge is grumbling into life once more. The Dead Heads are an Australian five-piece who are grabbing the genre by the scruff of it’s plaid shirted neck and shaking it back into being. Dripping in reverb and awash with the growling drawl of distorted guitars, ‘ When I’m Dead ’ captures all the feverish intensity of 90’s grunge but fuses it with the best bits of garage and stoner rock in a musically eclectic storm of influences. Elements of shoegaze, pop and punk blend together pretty effortlessly here, [...]

We've got sad news to pass along this afternoon as graphic artist Storm Thorgerson has passed away. The news was confirmed by English journalist and songwriter Polly Samson, who's also David Gilmour's wife. Thorgerson designed countless album covers including Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, Phish's Slip Stitch and Pass, Umphrey's McGee's Safety In Numbers and The Mars Volta's Frances The Mute. Thorgerson is best known for his work with Pink Floyd as he not only designed the iconic cover of Dark Side, but also produced the [...]
I do. I miss radio. I miss the days where we didn't have 'instant' access to everything. There was an anticipation hearing a favourite band's new song for the first time. Or a new song that just grabbed you. Those days are gone. Alan Cross posted this radio show that Johnny Rotten from The Sex Pistols did back in 1977. Yes. Olden times. Listen for awhile. You may know some of the songs, you may not. But this was a beautiful moment. Access to someone many [...]

Words by Sammy Maine Howling Owl Records have had a busy year. Following on from the success of last year's Record Store Day special release, the label have added more gems to their roster and decided it's only fair to showcase their latest talent with another release to celebrate the annual day of fun. The title, ' Music is Dead Vol. 1 ' practically flips a virtual bird to the music industry. This is a label that do it for the love, with a truly DIY approach to any [...]

It was announced last night that Chi Cheng, bassist with Deftones, has died following four years in a semi-comatose state from apparent heart failure. At the time of writing, no other details surrounding the circumstances of Cheng's death have been released. He was just 42 years old. In a statement given out via the One Love For Chi website, the charitable foundation created by Cheng's family and friends to raise money to pay for Chi Cheng's medical expenses, Chi's mother confirmed the news of her son's passing with [...]
In keeping with current events (Margaret Thatcher died today, guys), Pity Me's political acoustic punks, ONSIND have released a new single from their forthcoming album. 'Pokemon City Limits' is not a track about the fictional towns of one of Nintendo's most beloved franchises, it's actually about...well...why don't you see for yourself. Let's just say it's very apt considering todays events. (And as if the image didn't give it away anyway!) The new album is expected very soon, so watch this space for more from ONSIND. Face To The Soil A short story inspired by Phosphorescent's ' Muchacho' LP Words by Tom Johnson There were stories, like there is in any town. Always a friend of a friend, an older sibling. The house, and its decay, was there for everyone to see, but nobody could ever really know. Some people wondered, others chose not to. Some didn't care at all. Sometimes you have to make a decision, to find out for yourself, and that's what had [...]

We're sad to report that famed record producer Phil Ramone passed away this morning at New York Presbyterian Hospital in his adopted hometown of New York City. Ramone's resume reads like a list of the best albums ever produced and was known for his innovative techniques. The producer, who was 72, died from the effects of an aortic aneurysm for which he was first hospitalized last month. Clive Burr , former drummer with heavy metal legends Iron Maiden, died in his sleep earlier this week on Tuesday March 12, 2013. He was 56 years old. Although he was fired from the band in 1982, Bur remained friends with his former bandmates, who were longtime supporters Clive Aid, the charity Burr was a patron of which raised funds and awareness for cancer and multiple sclerosis (of which Burr himself suffered) causes around the world. It's in recognition of his role in the history of one of the world's biggest metal fans that we've put together this week's Sunday Slaylist [...]
