DOWNLOAD: Dax Riggs - "No One Will Be A Stranger" DOWNLOAD: Dax Riggs - "Let Me Be Your Cigarette" I found it hard not to think about Jeffrey Lee Pierce while listening to Say Goodnight to the World . Both Jeff and Dax have a blues/swamp-rock base in their music and both seem to have a number of personal demons. One difference that I can hear is that Jeffrey always seemed to be trying to exorcise his demons while Dax seems to be [...]
Every now and then, I run across an artist that everyone seems to know but I really have no clue about the artist’s past (bands, recording history, etc). Dax Riggs’ show at Mercury Lounge last week was a “gathering of the faithful” but I felt like I was probably the only one in the room who didn’t know (and couldn’t sing along to) Dax’s back catalogue. To give an overview of the show, the room was full by the time Dax hit the stage. I don’t think the show was sold out but this was definitely not [...]

Dax Riggs fronted one of MM's favourite bands, the criminally under-rated Deadboy & The Elephantmen . Playing a scuzzy, hypnotic blend of swamp rock with buzzsaw guitars and a healthy dose of psychedelia their album We Are Night Sky is a classic you should hunt down (or at least get off eMusic). Since the demise of the band, he is due to release his second solo album titled Say Goodnight To The World later this year and the pummelling, spitting, snarling No O ne Will Be A Stranger [...]

New Album from Dax Riggs this Summer Announced via Dax Rigg 's MySpace page , the former Acid Bath and deadboy & the Elephantmen frontman will be releasing a new LP on August 3 (via Fat Possum ). Say Goodnight to the World will be Rigg's second album released under his own name. The first single, "Grave Dirt On My Blue Suede Shoes" can be streamed here . I'd have to say the song picks up pretty much where We [...]

"We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold. I remember saying something like "I feel a bit lightheaded; maybe you should drive...." And suddenly there was a terrible roar all around us and the sky was full of what looked like huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving around the car, which was going about a hundred miles an hour with the top down to Las Vegas. And a voice was screaming "Holy Jesus! What are these goddamn animals?" - Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas [...]
For those of you black fingernail polished types listening to creepshow tunes in your dark bedroom with the windows blackened out, did you know that you would have been better off just shutting your eyes to enhance your musical experience? According to a study performed by researchers and neuroscientists at Tel Aviv University's Functional Brain Center, music is actually scarier with your eyes closed. Headed by professor and psychiatrist Tamla Hendler, the study seems to demonstrate that the voluntary shutting of one's eyes begins a reaction in the amygdala, or - and you'll dig this - the fear center of [...]
The sun has shone (mostly), been on holiday for a week, played Crazy Golf, endured Night At The Museum 2 with the children, met Matthew Houck from Phosphorescent, and discovered a family scandal. So in the spirit of discovery, here is a song by the sadly defunct Deadboy & The Elephantmen. It is from the marvellous album We Are Night Sky (available on eMusic here) and has one of the best openings

Since all three of us are in Cleveland together this weekend, we decided to take a more local twist into things. James is a little jet lagged from the trip in from Chicago and a few beers has slowed the young man down. There are two bands that have been on our radar for a couple of months and it's high time we began bringing out some of the talent and noteworthy music coming out of our city. Since we've seen the live shows and James is just hearing these guys for the first time, I've taken over his regular [...]
Sundays exist purely for 3 things in my world, the Sunday Times, croissants and bed. It's a happy life. Due to this happiness, here's a new feature for you. It's Sunday, Stay Under the Covers will be written every Sunday and with it I give you all permission to spend your whole day doing absolutely nothing [...]

Henry Rollins has the best job in the world. The intelligent and opinionated former lead singer of Black Flag , frontman of the Rollins Band , actor, author and spoken word artist, is able to hand-pick the guests and artists for his weekly program on the Independent Film Channel . Unlike other talk shows, the performances and interviews are unedited. The artists can perform their music the way it was written and the guests can speak freely. The show is currently on hiatus following the wrap of its second season. Definitely worth checking [...]

3 Teams of Horses Queen B - Puscifer The war is dragging on, even though we brought it home. In irony of ironies I live in an apartment over the National Guard Armory. After days of mines & molotovs I'm finally alone. I need to do some hard, hard drugs. I need to feel the needle in the mainline, charley. I know that drugs are counter-revolutionary. I know that I don't care. [...]

It's been too long since I've seen a show at Stubb's indoor, so long in fact that I'm not even sure when the last time was. This all changes on Tuesday night. Dax Riggs, having just released his first "solo" album, will be performing at Stubb's indoor after the Stars/Lemurs gig on the outside stage. If you haven't heard of Dax Riggs, he's the dude from Deadboy & the Elephantmen. If you haven't heard of Deadboy & the Elephantmen, then you should go pick up We Are Night Sky [...]

deadboy & the elephantmen are one of those bands i stumbled across while i was living in new orleans. almost six years ago, a friend had told me that they were a must-see live. exhausted, wandering along the streets until i got towards the end of the mississippi river, i stood up against a wall and before i knew it.. i had entered the total chaos of what it is to hear and watch a band perform. only two members played upon the stage, tessie on drums and dax on guitar/vocals, but it was all they needed. [...]
I always think it is so interesting watching bands that you know do not usually come out before sundown do sets at festivals in the middle of the day. You can just see the pain on their faces as they try to pull it together. Deadboy and The Elephantmen definitely did a pretty good job. Did you know you can watch live stream of ACL right now on AT&T's Blue Room? If you're following along at
I found this band to be so interesting while researching my previous entry that I had to spend a little more time writing about them. I think what initially caught my eye was all of the name-dropping-comparisons that kept popping up in almost every piece of information that I read about this Louisiana duo. Here's just a handful of names that I came across that I can remember off the top of my head: The Stooges The White Stripes David Bowie The Black Keys Nasty Little Man (PR firm for Beck, Gorillaz, Radiohead) That's pretty [...]
