Last week, we received a note from a band called Deadwood Floats . They're out of Columbus, Ohio, and they're immensely talented. In September, Deadwood Floats recorded a beautiful folk influenced EP entitled, Provence . It's gripping, and fans of The Head and The Heart , The Red River , and the Avett Brothers will love it. Pay-what-you-want for Provence by following the link to Bandcamp, below. If you like it, throw them a little green . It's well worth it. [...]
Download a mixtape's worth of free covers of what magazines and blogs are calling the best songs of the year. Covers of M83, Adele, Radiohead, Bon Iver, and more!
With four Grammy nominations , an appearance in a workout video and brushing off arguments over whiskey via Twitter, 2011 has been a big year for Justin Vernon . Since the release of Bon Iver , there have been a number of musicians and fans breaking out their instruments to perform their own versions of the songs. Some covers are good while others are bad, but a few that really stick out from the pack. One such cover includes Columbus, Ohio-based Deadwood Floats ' version of "Holocene". Deadwood Floats' version [...]

Bon Iver has been the talk of town lately, with their/his (we do say "their" as Bon Iver is a band) 2 sold out shows at Massey Hall this week, Grammy nominations, workout videos , topping year end lists and twitter wars about whiskey. This post is to be about the music (well not their version actually). I received an e-mail from Columbus, Ohio band Deadwood Floats , who've recorded their version of top-notch cover "Holocene". The band began as almost a distraction for members Adam and Drew in late summer of '09, now six members [...]

( Editor's Note: (Shuffling through the grocery store, bathrobe half open, staring at the milk jugs, trying to find one with a late date, I see the Internet. We haven't seen each other since high school. It's awkward.) Me: Hey there, Internet. Been a minute. How you doing? How're the kids? Internet: Fuck yourself. Me: Great to catch up. [...]

Ahhh, Fourth of July. An excuse for sparklers, barbecues, and perfecting that old American accent. Independence Day is also the only time it's somewhat acceptable to wear a red-and-blue-striped ensemble. But more importantly, it is the perfect weekend to blast all those timeless American tunes. Whether you're looking to really show off your pride by playing "The National Anthem" on repeat, or Mom and Dad take over the iPod and start reminiscing about songs of the past, music is essential to make this upcoming weekend a hell of a celebration. So for this week's Fresh Meat [...]

Deadwood Floats - Knives Out [Radiohead] | zs
![[Introducing] – Deadwood Floats](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3510046_lg.jpg)
Tweet Indie-folk is all the rage right now, all the more so if there's vocal harmony involved. Despite this, Deadwood Floats, an indie-folk four piece with a strong focus on - you guessed it - harmonies, managed to grab my attention almost immediately. How? They covered Radiohead , and they did it well. Never mind that Deadwood Floats's cover of " Knives Out " is buried down at track 11 on their 15 song album "Jumping Into Bodies Of Water (And Happiness)", [...]

At first listen of "Weathered, Withering" from Deadwood Floats , my ears pricked up. What a sweet tune with which to usher in summer. The song reminds one of "For Emma" by Bon Iver, melodious vocals that hover over folk rock notes. This OSU quartet mixes together magically to create a song that delivers you from your current state and leads you toward a more peaceful place. And similar in style to Justin Vernon, Deadwood Floats has penned lyrics that reflect heart and thought. So, please don't let the word "folk" frighten because one spin of the song willread [...]

( Editor's note: I know that it is Sunday. Sorry for the one day delay on Lazy Saturday. Shit got real. ) It's a throwback Lazy Saturday. Our mutual friend Kevin was complaining that my Lazy Saturdays have gotten lazier over the last couple of months. I used to throw a new band out into the ether (Young Buffalo, AIDS Wolf, and so on) along with some old live music. I've hewed more closely to an only live music (if any music at all) approach for a little bit. [...]
