Papermaps began as the band EX-PO. Producer/engineer and song writer Dean Marino first released the EX-PO album Central Meaner Street in 2008, playing the large majority of instruments on the album. Deciding to tour behind the project he assembled a band to play live shows. In between the releases Central Meaner Street and the first self titled Papermaps album, the project that was initially known as EX-PO evolved into something else. Changing their name, the first official release from Papermaps under that band name was the "Reunion" seven inch single in January of 2011. The band [...]
YESSSSSS. Mike Candys is a one man wrecking crew right now, rippin' off gem after gem. You should recognize the Mike Candys and Evelyn tandem from One Night In Ibiza , which you've probably heard because it's probably up there for gem of the year, so I'll include it here as well. Mike Candys and Evelyn - Around The World (feat David Dean) Mike Candys & Evelyn - One Night In Ibiza (feat Patrick Miller) [...]

One of the most unlikely rappers may be, but Jack Dean's I Made You A Mixtape shows that the right doses of irreverence and a little self-deprecation can be mixed to pull off something with charm. And there's even a lovely little Nas remix dropped in to boot. See what the slam poet's got to say for himself. <a href=" http://jackdean.bandcamp.com/a lbum/i-made-you-a-mixtape"& ;amp;amp;amp;gt;I Made You A Mixtape by Jack Dean</a& ;amp;amp;amp;gt;
Last Thursday night was a party in Hollywood when the Pledge to Rage Tour stopped at Key Club to put on a great show. iLLie, OnCue and The Dean's List rocked the place with style making an overall enjoyable show. I have been following these three acts for a long time and to see them [...]
Doo-wop was the dub-step of the '50s, and girl, Dean Monkey wants to tell you slowly and sincerely, with a walking bass line and soaring harmonies in the background. The Lawrencians have done their research.… [ Read more ] [ Subscribe to the comments on this story ]
David Lynch & 'Big' Dean Hurley The Stool Pigeon Mixtape by The Stool Pigeon on Mixcloud Not so much a collection of songs that influenced the album they made together, more a mix of tracks, exclusive to The Stool Pigeon music newspaper, that David Lynch and his musical collaborator/engineer 'Big' Dean Hurley have been enjoying recently. Blues, garage rock, rock'n'roll, classic rock, a theme tune, even UK dubstep… it's a suitably broad, wise and fun listen that we're honoured to present to you. Read our [...]

Last week some of the MJF crew here in New York hit the Red Bull Space in Soho to check out NUE Agency's College Buyer's Lounge. We were fortunate to catch half of LA-based indie duo DWNTWN 's energetic performance, followed by MJF favorites, Dean's List . Dean's List MC Sonny Shotz reminded the Red Bull-Vodka tipsy crowd of his catch phrase "Fuck it, I'm young!" in between covering new material and more classic tracks like Dear Professor . Not only did The Dean's List kill it, but they also repped MJF favorite and IU-alumn DOPE [...]

I guess I'll just keep pulling this out every year until someone tells me to stop... What d'ya think…d'ya think chicks dig scars? The film was made in 2007 by Max Finneran and is... a short coming-of-age horror film about sons, fathers and the roles they play and imagine for one another. Abandoned by his father at a highway-side pumpkin patch, an eleven year-old boy spends a peculiar and life changing night with the misfit [...]

Terry Tolkin and Dean Wareham ( picture by Howard Thompson used without permission) Going through my hard drives last night I seem to have misplaced a folder of "Dean Wareham" recordings (including the phone message Dean left me from Brussels in 1997!) - also missing were some of the recordings Dean made with Jimmy Chambers and Hamish Kilgour after getting a demo deal with Elektra shortly after Galaxie 500 split. A few of these recordings made their way onto a single (and subsequently onto the Speed Dating compilation that [...]

The Note [GENSU DEAN REMIX] by Hassaan Mackey & Apollo Brown Hassaan Mackey & Apollo Brown is back with a new remix to "The Note" by Gensu Dean, off the Daily Bread project. The Note [Gensu Dean Remix] is a serious, slightly ominous toned track starts with singing in what almost sounds like a call to prayer over a sitar. Then Dean cuts up some drums, adds some bass stabs, and layers vocal chanting throughout the beat to create a thought provoking, heavy new edition of Apollo's original.
