Jenny Lewis - Acid Tongue Release date: Sept. 23, 2008 [ amazon.com ] Funny pattern make brains and eye hurt and not work good. AGD EDIT: I was politely informed by Chuckie from Dear and the Headlights that the cover for Drunk Like Bible Times isn't the exact one. It's a digipak, so the square artwork isn't the correct dimensions. This image, however, is the real McCoy.

Magnetic Morning's the project of Interpol drummer Sam Fogarino and Swervedriver frontman Adam Franklin. The duo previously put out a self-titled six-song EP and recently completed their debut LP A.M. in Athens, Georgia with the help of the Album Leaf's Jimmy LaVelle, among others. In this week's 'Gum Drop we premiered the epic, downcast, fresh-from-the-studio "At A Crossroads, Passive" and spoke with Adam and Sam about the track: Take a listen and learn what happens when you arrive at crossroads and don't move. A.M. is out 10/21 via Friend Or Faux . [...]

Dear and the Headlights - Drunk Like Bible Times Release date: Sept. 30, 2008 [ amazon.com ] The sloppy craft class/cut and paste look has always intrigued me, maybe because I liked those "visionary" 80's-era music videos that bore the same visage. I'm using this style in a design project I've just started. It will probably turn out horrible — but really, how could you tell?

It starts out unassuming enough. With a few bars of guitars, Dear and the Headlights new single "Talk About" (from their upcoming September 30th CD "Drunk Like Bible Times") launches itself into a standard sounding indie jangle. But as you start listening to the song, which involves one person "processing" a disagreement with another, the song picks up and becomes manic in its pace, with dips and crescendoes mirroring the frequencies of the dispute at hand. Coupled with singer Ian Metzger's fork-tongued lyrics and shrill vocals, alongside some really just peppy music, this song just becomes golden. [...]

1. The Rosebuds - Life Like - The Rosebuds have seen a few different incarnations over the years, most recently as a synth-heavy pop band on '07's Night of the Furies . Thankfully, their next release will return to their melodic indie past, though with more noticeable oompf . Linesthroughlines fave Bon Iver also pitches in on the album. With that info and this stellar lead track, sign me up. [from Life Like (out 10.7)| info ] 2. Y'all [...]

Ah, back to the Avalon Theatre, where the benches are just slightly too close together and teenagers traverse the aisles in packs. But we were not here on any ordinary safari. No, we were on special assignment to check out the two bands you see there in the title. And check out is what we did... While all three of us bloggers were planning on attending this show, only Stu and myself (Kraig) were able to make it. Nuts to Brock, you missed a good one. Anyways, the [...]
ennui: (n) a feeling of utter weariness and discontent resulting from satiety or lack of interest; boredom: The endless lecture produced an unbearable ennui. So it amazes me that these guys are not more well-known. Excellent lyrics, some nice guitar riffs, and good drumming; what more could you ask for? This is a rhetorical question, of course, but if you think of a good answer let me know. Anyway, the point is somehow the masses have yet to catch on. They played at Lollapalooza in 2007, but then again so did 80+ other bands, so it's probably hard to stand out in a crowd that large. Maybe being "hand-picked" to be the sole opening act for [...]

2007 was a bit chaotic in terms of new releases, I have to say. The choices of songs was overwhelming to say the least, and I was able to whittle down my "Best of" list to 100 tracks, and from these I narrowed them to the top 20. Happy New Years, y'all! 20. The Wombats - "School Uniforms" / Download A jangly, reminiscent romp through awkward adolescent fantasies and "Superbad" experiences. I wish I had an anthem like this to keep me [...]
