Key Losers is the Portland, Oregon-based project of vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Katy Davidson, ex-Dear Nora, YACHT collaborator, etc. Her airy, sunny, graceful, impressively patchwork first official Key Losers full-length California Lite follows a 2009 "mini-album" Adjust . She's joined on it by the "Key Losers Black Crow Session Band," a group of collaborators featuring Karl Blau (saxophone), Total Noise's Greg Campanile (percussion) and
Tom Filardo (lead guitar, vocals
), LAKE's
Andrew Dorsett (bass and vocals) and Eli Moore (vocals), and No Kids' Nick Krgovich (keyboards and vocals)
. It was engineered by Phil Elverum, who captured the 12 songs "almost [...]

by Jared Schorr Noise Narcs' first post was one year ago today. What's the traditional one year anniversary gift for a music blog? Paper, silver, a shutdown notice from the RIAA? I was hoping for the last, but instead we get two gifts: a Noise Narcs show and a new feature . Still firming up details on the show, but expect mid-March and some fantastic bands. And we probably have room for one more band, so if you know one, tell them to get in [...]
Here we come around - Dear Nora Rebekah needs the computer a lot today so there's no time for the four hours i take up writing these things. Still, i offer this song as a great song by a great band whom everyone should find and love.

Thanks to everyone who listened to our one year anniversary show. It was super fun and Evan Vidar and the Wonderful People killed it dead. Tune in next week (and every week following till we spontaneously combust) on Sunday from 6-8 PST for two hours of brand spanking new music. The Drums - Lets go Surfing Taken By Trees - My Boys (Animal Collective cover) Sun Wizard - Glorious Seamonster - Oh Appalachia (railcars remix) Weave! - unknown unreleased track Casiotone For The Painfully [...]

Filed under: News , New Music Nada Surf 's 'If I Had a Hi-Fi' won't be the only significant indie-rock covers album of 2010. Pitchfork reports that Mates of State plan to release a new album, 'Crushes (The Covers Mixtape),' which will boast renditions of tunes by the likes of Death Cab for Cutie , Tom Waits , Fleetwood Mac and more, sometime this summer. The first track available via Mates of State's website [...]
I remember picking up My Solo Project in 2001 at a record store in Gainesville, Florida. "Indie Rock" was just on the rise but at the time Mates of State was slumped into the "Indie Pop" genre and world by my friends and I. Not too long after I had the opportunity to see them [...]

Photos by C. Marcoux For this live concert with singer Katy Davidson (Wolf Colonel) as her long-standing moniker Dear Nora , at Café du Nord for this year's San Francisco Pop Festival, we still get goosebumps and gasp over the raw emotion of her vocals combined with the draw that Katy's beautiful songs command. We're not sure how rare this live recording is, but this show at Café du Nord along with The Botticellis, Birds of California, Cheap Red and Eux Autres in San Francisco was one of [...]

June is nearly over, and with that we shall celebrate LGBT Pride month (thanks Obama) , yes it's no longer just Gay Pride, which I think is awesome. Here in NYC specifically we've just ended Pride week , a week filled with marches, parades and parties all over the city. This year also marks the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, the catalyst for the modern LGBT rights movement. We are still fighting for equal rights but with more and more states allowing same sex marriage and with a democrat in office again, it seems likely [...]
Alyssa and Andy Nun Party is the wonderfully catchy lo-fi pop project of Alyssa Roberts with occasional help from Andrew Smith (The Airport of Love). At the moment, the female-fronted lo-fi pop moniker seems to be over-diluted with that fuzzy four-chord garage sound that, upon the beginning of it's recent revival, I was pretty smitten with – well, it's starting to wear a bit thin to me. Fortunately we've got Nun Party, who seem to lean more towards the likes of Dear Nora or The Aislers Set, rather than the Shoppies or JAMC. [...]

Well today is the last day of the San Francisco Popfest and probably the best day to attend one of the shows. After all today is Dear Nora, Eux Autres, ChEAP RED, Birds of California, and the ever so wonderful Botticellis at Café du Nord. This is a great opportunity to witness the best in local music and up and coming bands that you'll be listening to later on because your friends told you to or Pitchfork gave them a 8.1 and you figured, "Hey! They're good but certainly not the most [...]

MP3: Casiotone For the Painfully Alone w/ Dear Nora - Hot Boyz A collection of b-sides and singles from Casiotone For the Painfully Alone is a dream come true for any fan, and the recently released "Advance Base Battery Life" is everything you could hope for. The biggest gem that had gone over my head in my collecting days was "Hot Boyz", a Missy Elliot cover that showed up on a States Rights Records comp way back when. It's a collaboration with the criminally underrated Dear Nora [...]
The show last Saturday was a celebration of Magic Marker Record's 10th anniversary, and it showcased the label's finest pop bands, both past and present: The Galactic Heroes, Dear Nora (both reformed for this night only), BOAT and Tullycraft. With a line-up like that, Portland really doesn't seem too far away. read more
Magic Marker Records celebrates a decade of amateur excellence with an anniversary show.
