THE PLAYLIST THAT BRINGS INNER PEACE... Since day one (incidentally, that was very nearly a year ago now folks!) Winston's Zen intention has always been to share the music that puts a swagger in my step or soothes my soul, to attempt in some way to pass on that moment when a tune grabs your attention, holds it tight and changes your day in some little way. And if, whilst sprinkling a little sonic goodness across cyberspace, I can shine a light on one or two [...]

1. Brian Wilson - Live Let Live - Do you realize BW is 66 years old? I think it's amazing that there are any good tracks on his follow-up to Smile, which took him almost 40 years to complete. But here he is, that old lucky sun-toasted sumbitch, raising another icy glass to the bright-colored sky. Here's to you buddy. [from That Lucky Old Sun | buy ] 2. Final Fantasy - Cockatrice - Shimmy and shake. Plucked violin [...]
A few weeks ago one of my friends (I can't tell you for the life of me who; if you're a friend of mine and you read this and you can claim the following conversation a yours, tell me) and I were talking music and they dropped the name Deas Vail to me. I treated it about the same way I treat most of the rec's my friends give me; the band was added to the list of bands I should investigate, but no further action took place. Until I get an email from someone from the Deas [...]
Arkansas may not be known as a hotbed for bands, but it soon may be with the emergence of a great band called Deas Vail. They were recently named one of Absolute Punk's "100 Bands To Watch", and are also in the running to be placed in a national ad for Nike. Their new CD-The White Lights EP-is out and features a very addictive sound, especially on the track White Lights. Wes, Laura, Kelsey, Andy & Justin comprise a band you are likely to be hearing much, much more from. Deas Vail [...]
Relevant Magazine's The Drop has the new House of Heroes album "The End is Not the End" streaming. There are some other great albums to listen to by Nevertheless, Family Force 5, Seabird, Ten Shekel Shirt, Deas Vail, The Reign of Kindo and more!

Thursday feels like the real first day of the festival, which is no surprise really, considering the fact that there are fifteen different showcases for you to choose from, or hop in between. Yes, FIFTEEN. It's enough to make your head spin, which is one of the main reasons I decided to do these showcase-by-showcase preview posts in the first place. This is going to be a night of tough decisions no matter what your tastes in music veer towards - you've got several different brands of rock and singer-songwriter stuff to choose from. [...]
Formed while its members were students at Arkansas Tech in the Midwestern hamlet of Russellville, the band has gone through several different members before settling in with its current lineup for the past two-and-a-half years. While at school, Blaylock began writing songs he initially envisioned as solo works, but when coupled with an affinity for the indie-rock scene, Deas Vail was born. Blaylock discovered and embraced the indie rock scene his senior year of high school, eschewing the bluegrass and folk enriched home he grew [...]

It took 11 years, but The Verve is back with their first new album since 1997's Urban Hymns . Should you feel excited or just throw that info on the back burner? For now, throw that tidbit into the closet, since our own boys from Arkansas are releasing their White Lights EP - Deas Vail that would be. Don't you think it is much easier to get excited about a group that you can grow with? Me too. Also from within our borders, The [...]

Here is the cover art to Deas Vail's upcoming ep "White Lights"

A little over a year since the release of their full-length debut album, All the Houses Look the Same , Deas Vail is once again recording. Paired with producer Mark Lee Townsend for the second time, the five band-mates from Arkansas are hoping to complete an EP by August and then a full-length album by January 2009. Honing a optimistic indie rock sound, MusicUnderFire caught interest last year and reviewed their All the Houses Look the Same album. Check out the review here . Now with their a nifty [...]

"You move in slow and steady motion but you're evading none the less." You can find talent in the most unlikely of places. For instance, Russellville, Arkansas is home to new indie darlings Deas Vail . While the band seems to give nods to "emo" mainstays like MuteMath or MAE, their own ingenuity should not be overlooked. Beautiful piano-based, experimental pop/rock music (sound interesting?) to complement the pristine vocals of classically trained frontman Wes Blaylock. The band just released their debut disc, [...]
