Should I be concerned that new albums with 14 songs seem daunting to me? Maybe I listen to too much music. Or, shit, maybe not enough? What the hell is wrong with me? Ghostly International passed on this really cool video piece by James P. Morse that documents a day in the life of Deastro , a Ghostly artist. Also, if you didn't already know, Ghostly International is coming up on it's 10th anniversary and with that comes an insane poster via ISO50 . Respect. Chabot talks about swimming across a lake in Michigan to see the absent Michael's monkeys before jumping into "Biophelia," his faraway voice kicking the band into 23rd gear. Rather than the vocals vanishing into the mesh of the song to become another instrument – cf. Skullflower's Matthew Bower – it's a voice to which you'd pay attention even with those gale-force winds of rock blasting past.
Wampire , made up of guitarists Eric and Rocky, performed at Holocene producing a very mellow and groovy sound, much to the crowd's delight. They rocked barefoot with painted faces, long shirts and sparkly pants, each playing killer guitar to catchy sounds from a computerized unit. Wampire told me their name was German for Vampires, and they chose it because they liked the way it sounded. I, too, liked the way Wampire sounded. As ridiculous or pretentious as it may sound, if you have listened to any records from the School of Seven Bells , The Chap , or even Dan Deacon , you would've already dabbled with the sub-genre.
