Play it: Death From Above 1979 RIP Death From Above 1979 has officially called it quits . Apparently it's been brewing for some time, as bassist Jesse F. Keeler and drummer/vocalist Sebastien Grainger have grown apart and have been just meetin tour obligations for the past year waiting to make an announcement. According to Keeler: It would be more sad if we stopped changing and growing and kept playing [...]
we started as a punk band with pop aspirations dfa 1979 have called it quits (thanks for the heads up, brooklyn vegan) . sucks - you're a woman still gets heavy rotation around the apartment, and their show at the bowery ballroom was one of my all time favorites. but at least we still have mstrkrft , eh? death from above 1979 - better off [...]
I hate it when good bands throw in the towel. The latest (not really, but whatver) casualty is Death From Above 1979. The Canadian duo really really really impressed me with their album You're A Woman, I'm A Machine and their disco-meets-punk-meets-dance party madness was amazing. Truly a fun album to put on and get ready to on a Friday night out on the town or to play before you get it on with

Because, in the end, they weren't even talking, Death From Above 1979 have split and reached their sexy results. They talked enough to agree a farewell statement, written by bass player Jesse F. Keeler: "I know it's been forever since I wrote anything on here. I'm sure by now most of you assume the band isn't happening anymore since there are no shows, no work on a new album, etc. Well I wanted to let you know that your assumptions are correct. We decided to stop doing the band... actually we decided [...]

I love typing "DIE" in all caps. I DON'T love that Death From Above 1979 just broke up!!!!!! I hate it! I mean at least we have MSTRKRFT, but. . . The first time I was to see see DFA1979 was in Edinburgh on May 23rd of 2005, but alas my work permit expired that day and I didn't have a new one lined up, so I was nervous about being deported and also no longer having a job, and when you don't have a job, five pounds is just a bit to much [...]
I had never heard of the band MSTRKRFT (made up of the duo of ALP + JFK) until I listened to their on point remix of Wolfmother's "Woman." I enjoyed that remix better than the actual song. While MSTRKRFT has been able to excel at making some great remixes and especially rock remixes that draw on JFK's Death from Above 1979 punk background there new album The Looks which features all original material is fun but not particularly memorable. Give "She is Good for Business" and see what [...]
I told my internet people here in Seattle to turn it off August 1st. While I'm still prepared to wake up tomorrow without internet, I'm keeping in mind I told them to turn my cable off July 1st and they didn't get around to it until July 10th or so. For now I'll post this as my farewell post until I get back home, with a post from an internet cafe every now and then. Death From Above 1979 - [...]

PREFACE: Hello, all. I'm Derek from Good Weather For Airstrikes, and I'm the asshole that was supposed to post yesterday, but Lizzy couldn't get a hold of me, most likely because I was probably gallavanting around engaging in some form of douchebaggery or another, as I'm wont to do. That aside, below is a feature on my favorite new electronica act, French dancefloor kings Justice. For those of

Exclaim! has a great interview with Jesse Keeler of Death From Above 1979 about his new electro/house project, MSTRKRFT. While he doesn't exactly say that his old band is breaking up, it was peppered with allusions to his shift in musical focus. "Before DFA 1979, I found that I could do ...
