Having fun is a holy activity, don’t settle for the fake stuff. A lot of people, especially those just a little too affected by the ebb and flow of a given scene, never really have fun. They pretend to have fun. These people think fun is about being at the coolest event with the coolest [...]
One of the West coast's leading beat gurus, Kastle, has his self-titled debut album ready just in time for spring, out on Symbols Recordings . The San Francisco-based producer has had countless releases over the last three years, including original works as well as remixes of artists like The Weeknd, Example, Beyonce, Kanye West ... the list goes on and on. His sound can be described as a kind of futuristic R&B that's being played at an upscale discotheque at the bottom of the ocean, and with this new album, he'll be [...]
Brazilian indie-pop band CANSEI DE SER SEXY aka CSS reports back with the announcement of their fourth longplayer Planta. The longplayer will be released on June 11 via SQE Music. It's the first longplayer after the departure of musical mastermind Adriano Cintra back in late 2011, who was quite with the mood in the band. The post CSS announce new album and premiere song "Hangover" appeared first on Nothing But Hope And Passion - NBHAP - Music Magazine & more .

The Crystal Ark , if you didn't already know, is the new collaborative project between LCD Soundsystem's Gavin Russom and performance artist Viva Ruiz (backed up by a rather large gaggle of musicians from across the planet). Having released their debut self-titled album in October last year, The Crystal Ark have announced the impending release of a second single from the album. 'Rain', so I'm told, is inspired not only by the electro and house stylings of LCD Soundsystem, but also Afro-Cuban batá drumming and Afro-Brazilian Candomblé religious music. The complex yet uplifting percussion [...]

A laid-back Frank Leone spits over smooth instrumentals laced by Gudina in "Death From Above". Listen below.

Frank Leone is back with a new track and a dope anouncement as he unleashes "Death From Above", the first single from his collaborative 'tape with L.A. producer Gudina. Frank's laid-back vocals and the incorporation of live instrumentation by Gudina make is a very smooth joint to vibe to. Basement Therapy is set to drop around the first quarter of 2013 and will feature guest-appearances by the likes of Malcolm London, Martin $ky, The GTW, and more. If you haven't yet, listen to Frank's debut Deep Ocean

Wikipedia As recently as a year ago, it didn't look like this cover would ever get a chance to be aired out again in a legitimate manner. Sure, I posted it back in 2007 when Sebastien Grainger's new band The Mountains opened up for Bloc Party , but that was tenuous at best - Death From Above 1979 had been inactive since 2006 and Bloc Party were formally on hiatus as of Summer 2009. And yet here we are, with both sides of the equation back in action. DFA19792s [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News Last Gang "We're having the time of our lives over here!" Nightbox singer Jake Bitove said to the audience gathered at Toronto's Underground Garage Friday night. The young Toronto (by way of Wicklow, Ireland) electro-pop quintet have called Canada home for the last few years, and were clearly excited for their second appearance at Canadian Music Week . Considering the group's synth/computer master James Shelly admitted that [...]

Do you ever hear one song, and something about it strikes you right away, as being very similar to another one?. Happens to me a whole lot, and I find myself trawling through bloody iTunes, trying to place what it is, perhaps discovering that the supposed marked similarity, is actually just a few notes, a closely related motif, and not the least representative of the tune as a whole. Naturally I've an example - this morning's temporary obsession, as it were - before which, Ralph Stanley's 'O Death' (you know, it was in 'O Brother, Where art Thou?', [...]

by charles bell [ Quick editor's note: Dead Bands is a column in recognition of bands no longer with us. Chuck Bell will show love for these bands which endured varying levels of success but...] Maintaining a band is very much like maintaining a relationship - especially when there are only two people involved. From the outset, Death from Above 1979 seemed too good to be true, and as it turns out, they were. DFA1979 consisted of Jesse F. Keeler on bass/synths and [...]

MSTRKRFT is an electronic dance music group hailing from Toronto. The group is formed by Jesse F. Keeler, formerly a member of Death From Above 1979 and Al-P, formerly a member of Girlsareshort. Thus far, they've only released one LP back in 2006 The Looks and a kajillion remixes in between. I really do mean a kajillion. Name any artist and I assure you there's a MSTRKRFT remix of their song or one in the works. Their remixing status has been put on slack lately though, 'cause their soon to be released album Fist of God [...]
