Things have been pretty quiet in the Death On Two Wheels camp for quite some time now; with the exception of an occasional Twitter or Facebook post, the band has kept any future plans under wraps. But as it turns out the group has spent the past several months locked away writing and demoing new songs. Next month, they will enter the studio to begin recording their second album, which will be released via Favorite Gentlemen . Before doing so, however, they wanted to test out some of the new material, play a few shows, and let [...]
In 2011, those familiar might think a city with a wealth of musical history and significance such as Memphis would tout an equally wealthy list of music festivals and gatherings. There are at several notables that each have broad appeal - Goner Records' annual Gonerfest , the Folk Alliance International Conference which takes place every February, and the Beale Street Music Festival every May all come to mind. But Brandon Herrington - a Memphis native & member of local band This Is Goodbye - could see that something was missing. [...]
SXSW kicks off as I type. I am still here at home in the ATL but far finer elements of Atlanta will be represented in Austin, Texas. If you're on your way to SXSW from points in Georgia or elsewhere, several must see Atlanta bands are headed to Austin. The best Atlanta based event will likely be ATL Yeah! Organized by Jeremiah of the Favorite Gentlemen crew, ATL Yeah! is a free event from Noon and 7pm on Friday at the Red Fez. The nine band line up will feature some of our [...]
Death on Two Wheels' stock in trade is big, boisterous Southern-fried rock. Even their more tranquil numbers have a red clay ruggedness to them. Credit much of that to vocalist Trae Vedder, whose gravel-throated howl and croon washes even the most subtle, soothing moments in some welcome grit and grime. The band's take on the holiday classic "Jingle Bell Rock" is no exception. The song starts with a calm wave of ambient keys and glittering guitars, but when Vedder comes in the song moves from a feeling of restrained beauty to something darker and edgier. The music never erupts [...]
I wanted to name this post "ouch that hurts" on account of the growing pains we've been having recently but I decided it was out of sync with the season and all the cool stuff that's been going on around us. First, if you haven't checked out the Atlanta Music Writer's Roundtable yet, now is the time to do it. Don't forget to follow it to the end, there is something for everybody in there and I promise you will discover something new. Second, the [...]
So the day has finally arrived- Death On Two Wheels and The Rocketboys, together, in Atlanta! If you haven't already, go over to favoritegentlemen.com and download the free tour EP, featuring the two bands covering each other. Just do it, you won't regret it. Also on this week's calendar is LA Bluegrass/Rockabilly outfit Rose's Pawn Shop, who will be playing Monday at Smith's . It's just a $5 show, so you should be there. Tracklisting: Black Mountain - [...]
Scientists have discovered that the turritopsis nutricula species of jellyfish is immortal. It is capable of cycling from the adult stage of its lifespan back into a polyp, repeating the process again and again. There's something to be said in favor of evolution. Species adapt and mutate to accommodate the changing environment. But, there's also an argument in favor of just sticking with what was already good. Death on Two Wheels' self-released album, Separation of Church & Fate , feels like deja vu. You know you've never heard it before, but it is [...]

VIDEO: Death On Two Wheels – "Burn Loretta" (Live)
After dropping nearly out of sight for several months to work on material for their next record, Death On Two Wheels are suddenly everywhere. Yep, you read that right - Sumerian has signed T.R.A.M., a new supergroup consisting of Animals as Leaders guitarists Tosin Abasi and Javier Reyes, Suicidal Tendencies drummer Eric Moore, and Adrian Terrazas (who used to go by "Adrian Terrazas-González" but whatever), who played flute/sax/bass clarinet/percussions on three albums by The Mars Volta (Frances the Mute, Amputechture, and The [...]

Death on Two Wheels – "Again For the First Time EP" - Bin It
Again for the First Time trades trusty blues potential for a clumsy vacillation between flashy rock-and-roll and tortured romantic folk. "Two Dollar Bills," however, is distinctly strong and resolute; the least overstated song on the EP – a campfire anthem that puts something better than death on two wheels. Reminds us of: Brian Adams / (a refined) Steven Tyler / (a tame) Guns and Roses Death on Two Wheels: ( MySpace ) death on two wheels [...]

Death On Two Wheels at Sundance
Atlanta rockers Death On Two Wheels just announced that they have a couple of tracks in the soundtrack for a film called "The Violent Kind", currently showing at Sundance. Calling Us All Back Home and Two Dollar Bills are from their current release SEPARATION OF CHURCH & FATE on The Ghost Umbrella Records. That's some great news from one of Atlanta's best bands- and equally great news for everyone else: To celebrate [...]
Skid Marks: Atlanta's Death on Two Wheels on tour
Death on Two Wheels, live at Criminal Records in Atlanta. Think Jet, Wolfmother, and The Detroit Cobras and you'll come up with something like Death on Two Wheels. Let's say there is some classic rock Skynyrd-style and some twang to make a mark. To promote their new tour (I guess), the Atlanta-based band is offering their new EP, The Past and The Present for free off their MySpace page . Worth the download, for sure. Upcoming tour dates after the jump... Jul [...]
