It's a good time to be a forgotten band from the 19602s and '70s. While the world might not have been ready for them at the time, over the last few years music fans have been embracing the fascinating stories of these long-forgotten acts that had been been relegated to record store dust bins. Of the recent crop of rediscovered acts that are having a bigger second act than their first is the band Death . Formed in 1971 by brothers Bobby, David and Dennis Hackney in Detroit, Michigan, the trio started out as an R&B act but switched [...]

Photo and autograph courtesy of the G Archives. Peter Rauhofer Sad news from the music world. Legendary DJ and producer/remixer Peter Rauhofer has died of brain cancer at the really young age of 48. Though Austrian, he was a New York club legend regularly spinning at venues like The Roxy. He was lucky enough to remix EVERYONE from Depeche Mode to Madonna to Kylie Minogue to Pet Shop Boys to Yoko Ono! He even won a Grammy for his remix of Cher's "Believe." I saw him [...]

There was only ever one option for this week's Sunday Slaylist - a tribute to Jeff Hanneman, guitarist with Slayer, who tragically died this week aged just 49 years old . The influence of Slayer on metal cannot be understated - Hell, we pretty much named this entire feature in tribute to Slayer . As one of the principal songwriters in Slayer (just go check out the writing credits of..oh...well... pretty much every Slayer album if you don't believe us), it's fair [...]
On my way home last night, my phone started going insane with the news that Jeff Hanneman had passed away at the age of 49 from liver failure. I didn’t believe all the text messages that people were sending around, knowing what kind of fan I am of Slayer even my Mom sent me a message and I knew this was real. People die every day. Some too early, some too young, some you know others you don’t. When a legend passes, many people don’t know what it means to you, honestly I didn’t know how much he [...]
Bone Sickness From: Olympia, Washington, USA Lazy equation: Old school death metal + a soupcon of extreme hardcore URL: Facebook Thrash Hits verdict: When we first heard Bone Sickness via a couple of crummy YouTubings of a house show, we knew that they were a great prospect. Once we got in touch and did this interview it was clear that their no-nonsense death metal is as influenced by not wanting to do certain things as [...]
Whew, enough trap. NoisePorn favorite Owl Vision released his full-length album "Dystopia" a while back, and today his label Comorbid Records has released a gorgeously dark remix of "All Black Everything" by fellow-minded Sins . It's cinematic in every way - a big chorus and massive-sounding orchestration. Masterful work here by Sins. The video to match is perfect. Buy it on Beatport here. Show the love for Owl Vision: [...]

Track by Track | Fortress by Helen Hamilton, Death Rattle White Ropes A song of contrasting positive and negative emotions, White Ropes touches on the conflicts of my inner voice. The controlled, clinical verses bring lyrics of attempting to hold things together and remain calm in times of dark despair... 'Slow down, heavy heart, hold on to a fresh start'. The chorus contrasts both musically a lyrically with a defiant marching snare and unrelenting synth line both juxtaposed with lyrics of surrender [...]

After a career that lasted over half a century, country musician George Jones died earlier today in Nashville, Tennessee at the age of 81. According to a press release, he was admitted into a hospital on April 18 due to complications of fever and irregular blood pressure. Despite being a country musician, Jones received the fame equivalent of a rock star with headlines of his rocky relationships, and inebriated, drugged rendezvous. But despite his tumultuous relationship with fame, he became known for his honey sweet baritone voice and slew of #1 singles like "Why Baby Why," [...]

I've mentioned them before , and then it seemed that interested had waned a bit in this band, but Death is back, baby! Available On May 24th digitally & in theaters, A Band Called Death tells the story of this pretty much unknown all-black 70's punk rock band from Detroit. Looks like a good one... Before Bad Brains, the Sex Pistols or even the Ramones, there was a band called Death. Punk before punk existed, three teenage brothers in the early '70s formed a band [...]
This is gonna be awesome.
Earthling is a rad band and Dark Path sounds like an honest record. No gimmicks, just a good chunk of metal from a very talented band. - By JH Statts.
Kess'khtak has found the algorithm of hate and they have managed to successfully parse grindcore and death metal as the parameters to produce a record that speaks volumes with such a sadistic and hateful intent it is hard to describe. - By Berns von Bernington.
Till Death is Johannes Arnesson (a.k.a. Owl Vision , a NoisePorn favorite) and Frank Major, Director of Disturbia Clothing . Their single "Last Wish" is one of the most emotive and inspiring downtempo electronic tracks we have heard all year, by far. Johannes Arnesson is doing something right. Dunno why Beatport put it under the Indie Dance/NuDisco category... probably simply because you can't quite categorize this under anything. It's just beautiful, highly emotive, pensive, and inspiring electronic music. The electric guitars run through [...]

While the U.S. has a gun control problem that has resulted in a number of men accidentally shooting off their own private parts , China just straight up has people killing each other with a lethal squeeze to the nuts. (Though definitely not as often as the dudes who blow off their own junk.) Last week, the Xinhua News Agency reported a woman on trial for ending a Hainan province shopkeeper's life in 2012. The woman, who was parking her scooter outside the shop, got into an altercation with the man after he accused her [...]

Stan 'The Spiv' Setty in 1949. On March 8 2013 Camden Council permanently closed Warren Street to cars. The road had long been used, presumably for decades, as a rat-run for drivers hoping to avoid the congestion that would often build up at the junction between Tottenham Court Road and the Euston Road. Closing a road to traffic in central London is hardly unusual these days but in this case there was a certain irony. For much of the 20th century Warren Street had been the centre of the used-car trade in London [...]
HOLY mother. NoisePorn favorite, Sweden's Owl Vision just came out with an amazingly awesome remix of his favorite metal band Ghost's track "Monstrance Clock" - the result is nothing short of epic . How can you not be epic with a chorus chanting "Come together, together as one." We can totally hear this being played at one of his live shows. It's more downtempo in comparison to most of his work we've heard, giving a chiller vibe...but still so powerful. Very melodic for Owl Vision. Owl [...]
