While a lot of folks were digging up breaks because of Premier and Pete Rock, listening to Quik, Daz, Battlecat and Dre had me developing taste-buds for upbeat, R&B/pop records from the '70s and '80s. Somewhere along the way, I succumbed to Debbie Deb's reverb-heavy, robotic breakbeat-jam, "When I Hear Music." Most might be ashamed to openly enjoy such a stereotypical song, but when I hear the funky freestyle joint it actually does make me dance. If you can call it that. [...]

New remix from Brass Knuckles . enjoY! Debbie Deb - Lookout Weekend ( Brass Knuckles 2011 Remix )

Opening day is today in Denver. The expectations for this year's Colorado Rockies are a bit lofty. Some places have them winning the World Series to winning the National League West. I guess they forget that the pitching rotation in Philadelphia will probably supply three players that will pitch in this year's National League All Star team. The National League is strong, but you can never count out the Yankees and Red Sox. One bone I do have to pick are with Cubbies fans. Why is it that at the first sign of disarray, y'all start preaching [...]

Fonda Rae & Wish Touch Me (All Night Long) Taylor Dayne Tell It To My Heart Janet Jackson Escapade Lyrical profundity was never Freestyle's strong suit, which is why I generally resist playing it out when the temperatures are many, many degrees away from balmy. Also, I think the syncopated rhythms [...]

Golden Bloggen Nights Part II was the shit. If you missed out you should really be kicking yourself. We had some live performances from KooKoo's Nest, Angel, King Genie, and Sky King. It was a good old night with some real Hip-Hop. The Mandrake is a real intimate spot which lead to something like you've never seen before. We also had Kill Bill and Jem and the Holograms going on in the background. Anyway you can re-live the night with my mix taken from last Sunday. So it will be like you were there partying with us. Enjoy! [...]

How can one man go from making music that had me thinking he was Samiyam to making music that has me thinking he's Herve ? God knows how 26 year old Duke Dumont does it. But here is a slew of his finest (the Lily Allen remix was what reminded me so much of Samiyam). Duke Dumont - When I Hear Mu'Sic (Debbie Deb Cover) Lily Allen - The Fear (Duke Dumont Remix) [...]

Recently I treked up to Louisville to shoot and met a bunch of crazy kids who love to party, run from the cops, and most importantly, support each other. The backbone of the Louisville scene was held up more by the resident dj's and the ones who visit regularly from surrounding areas rather than the kids who come out to support. Inevitably, in the end, the strongest always will survive and no matter how thick and thin Louisville might be, blood always runs thicker. So here is one of the pillars that helps make this all happen to make this [...]
![Hard Rock Park Flips The Dial To Freestyle [Rebrandings]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1655989_lg.jpg)
The new owners of the bankrupted music-themed amusement park Hard Rock Park are planning on keeping the roller coasters in Myrtle Beach rattling and rolling under a new name: Freestyle Music Park . As it turns out, 81% of people responding to a local paper's poll hate the name , even though it's supposed to honor the park's commitment to "the celebration of that revolutionary phenomenon rock n' roll but also encompasses other genres of music including country, reggae, beach music, pop, R&B, alternative, Christian, and disco." (And complement the name of a sister [...]

Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Best. Movie title. Ever. I think that's a well known fact though. People seem to forget though that the movie starred the equally awesomely-named "Shabba Doo." People don't seem to forget that the movie is a huge pile of shit though. Great 80s soundtrack though. Sometimes I don't post stuff necessarily because I like it, but for the good of all mankind. this is one of those times. Don't get me wrong, I love me some Electric Boogaloo, but the main reason I'm putting this up here [...]

As you might've read , Justice recently had a mix rejected by the folks at London's Fabric . Justice's mix was composed of " mainly weird disco tracks and French novelty acts ," but Fabric turned it down, because, according to Justice, " they weren't ready for something like this ." That's one theory, although I suspect it has something to do with the insane royalties Fabric would have to pay to clear all of that obscure shit. Anyway, Justice's mix actually looks pretty cool , and hopefully we'll get to hear it in its [...]

We know, we know--it's late on a Monday, a time when it's almost cruel to post a song called "Lookout Weekend." But when we were listening to our four-disc Freestyle's Greatest Collection set earlier, this song, with its barely-there Pretty Tony instrumentation and a tossed-off, half-in-key vocal take from Miami singer Debbie Deb, just sounded great , right down to its last electro-claps.
