Milwaukee indie/prog rock "supergroup" is comprised of members of numerous other Milwaukee acts, say so our super-collective of bio printing friends at Last.FM. 'Content Content' is the name of The Celebrated Workingman's new album, released after 20082s 'Herald the Dickens'. This recently unleashed effort was produced by Ryan Weber from one of Insomnia Radio favorites and earliest features on the network, Decibully. If interested you can check out some of their music about six years back when they helped launch this new daily podcast in its first few weeks. Ryan actually [...]

As I write this, the weather in Erie seems to have finally broken. I'm sitting outside on the porch in 70 degrees and sunshine. Hooray! I had some sad, sappy posts planned but those seem inappropriate now so I'll take the opportunity to introduce you to the awesome new album from Milwaukee's indie vets, Decibully . Decibully - I Want Decibully - 4 Ever

6am Repeat is a recurring feature here at Folk Hive in which we stream the latest track that plays incessantly in the earbuds when we awake at that hour and imbibe massive amounts of coffee and cigarettes in preparation for the advancing day. Consider it your jam of the day — a sweet, sweet gift from me to you. I love you, dude. You know, I really don't know what to say about Decibully. How to explain the awesomeness, how to conjure up the right words to [...]

There was a time when Decibully was Milwaukee's brightest star, the city's great hipster hope, but instead of obtaining national relevance, the band mired in an oft-ignored scene. The band is survived by a hand-full of sometimes-maudlin, sometimes-brilliant albums, various side projects, the Listening Party Record Label, and a Wikipedia page that still reads in the present tense . So Decibully was a band from Milwaukee, who've just released their self-titled and final LP. You can download the album for however much or little money you'd like to [...]

Cedar AV is pretty great. And this is something I figured upon before I even bucked up and got myself their debut album, At Long Last . Mathematical equations are certainly not my strong point but observe: Nate Zabriskie ( Nomad Palace )+ He Can Jog ( Erik Schoster - Bandcamp )* Made of Oak ( luvsound / Vacuum Love * Listening Party Records )/Wisconsin(WI)=FUCK YES Cedar AV . We could then multiple the solution by Decibully but the awesomeness quotient has already been met, so there's no need for [...]

To put it bluntly, the journey leading up to the release of Eric & Magill's new album has been a long and arduous one. Dating back to the late-'90s, during their time together in the Milwaukee-based band Camden, Ryan Weber and Eric Osterman have had a long and trying relationship, but one that has ultimately lasted due in part to a meaningful friendship and a mutual passion for creating music; this despite some spots of typical band drama including Osterman leaving Camden around the turn of the millennium which would drive a divide between the duo which lasted the better [...]

( Sad Songs & Waltzes is a recurring feature on Muzzle of Bees, where artists share their favorite sad songs. Previous contributors include Megafaun , Delta Spirit , Damien Jurado , Conrad Plymouth , and Roadside Graves .) With the year coming to a close next month I've been revisiting a lot of my favorite records from earlier in the year. One record that has continues to amaze me is Decibully's World Travels Fast , released on Listening Party Records . I wrangled BJ [...]

Since Buzz Bands hasn't yet expanded to the Land of Cheeseheads , I'm not terribly conversant in a lot of the indie music emanating from the state of Wisconsin. But what the compilation album "Wisco: A Tribute to Wilco's Summerteeth" lacks in familiar names it makes up for in musicianship and good intentions. The tribute (not unlike the Paul McCartney and Television covers albums released the past two years by Aquarium Drunkard ) is a charity affair assembled by the website Muzzle of Bees. Sixteen Wisconsin bands take on songs from the Wilco album, and there [...]

Wisco: A Tribute To Wilco's Summerteeth — a music compilation featuring our favorite Wisconsin artists each covering a track off of Wilco's 1999 LP , Summerteeth . I am honored to provide you with our labor of love. The state of Wisconsin is overflowing with musical talent. So much more than could ever be captured in just one compilation like this. That being said, I thought about the records that meant the most to me. Ones that I absolutely could [...]

Somewhere In The World mp3 Decibully World Travels Fast I almost walked out on the headliner of this one. Yep. One of my favorite bands, A Lull performed their going-away show that night and it was awesome. They premiered one, never-before played song ("Pregnancy") and a two other new ones that I'd not heard ("Spread It All Around" and "Pot Luck") and it was wonderful to see them again. As always, the stage was filled with drums of all sizes and their noise absolutely filled the room. I met a friend there [...]
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News They may not play much outside their hometown of Milwaukee or its neighboring states anymore, but Decibully still came across as a road-tested force to be reckoned with during their headlining show at Schubas in Chicago on Thursday night. The show marked their first appearance in Chicago since releasing their fourth album, 'World Travels Fast,' in December. Spanning their entire discography, Decibully transitioned from song to song without hesitation, turning their set into a fluid stream of music, rather than a start-stop, [...]

Listening to Decibully's 2005 release Sing Out America! again today for the first time in years, I'm reminded of how much I loved this album the very first time I heard it. I had to do some digging around but thanks to Archive.org I was able to find something I wrote about Sing Out America! on Donewaiting back in early 2005. Got a copy of Decibully's first CD, City of Festivals, in the mail when it was released a year or two ago. Thought it was [...]

Thanks to everyone who came out to the Cactus Club last night for our first night of bands at Radio Summer Camp . It was one of the best nights of the summer, if not the year. Tonight, we get local, showcasing two of my favorite Milwaukee bands, Decibully + The Celebrated Workingman plus The Smith Westerns in town from Chicago. Of course, that's not all that's going on. You should also make the Radio Summer Camp Backyard BBQ [...]

I became a fan of Early Day Miners with their 2005 release, All Harm Ends Here . That was such a perfect record. Since that release I somewhat lost touch with the group. Today, I received word they have an upcoming album, The Treatment arriving September 22nd on Secretly Canadian . You can download "So Slowly" from the upcoming album below and catch the band on tour with MoB favorites and Milwaukee's own Decibully ! Tour [...]
Decibully has been that band for me whom I've championed to anyone and everyone who'll listen. Like American Football. However, it seems that no one takes to Decibully quite like I do. I don't understand it. American Football, yes, people revel in that record. Decibully? No one seems to get into it. read more

A couple nights ago I got turned onto The Celebrated Workingman , a Milwaukee brewed outfit fronted by Mark Waldoch and comprising members of MoB favorites Freshwater Collins . I wouldn't even feel comfortable admitting how many times I played "We're Numb" on their myspace page yesterday, seriously one of my favorite tunes right now , so go take a listen. The Celebrated Workingman will release their debut album Herald The Dickens on Tuesday, August 19th , followed by a very special CD [...]
