Initially I was delighted when it was announced that 'Be Brave and Believe' would become a single from Declan O'Rourke's most recent album Mag Pai Zai. Apparently this is the forth and final release from the album. I love the song. It's a powerful healing tune which hits the spot perfectly. More about the song here: http://2uibestow.blogspot.com/ 2011/12/amhran-gach-la-declan- orourke_29.html The video however is a disaster in my eyes. While I'm sure every effort was made to deal with unemployment, mortgage arrears and negative equity in a respectable way I honestly think it looks [...]
With 2011 at an end I'm bringing my 'Amhrán Gach Lá' project to a close with my Top 10 songs of 2011 by Irish artists. 1. Jukebox Gypsy - The Month For me the lyric 'These are fading pictures now falling from our wall' is exactly what it's like looking back with memories of people who've passed away. It's a poignant track about a month in the songwriter's life which was devastating and turning it into a [...]

Beginning at 10 and heading to 1! 2. This is the first of three 'Top 10' countdowns I'm planning for the Christmas season! Here are in my opinion the best 10 original Christmas tunes by Irish artists [excluding the very obvious Fairytale of New York!]. 10. Bill Coleman - Sit With Me Thanks to Aidan from Golden Plec I was introduced to this today and it's a great tune. Sit With Me is a heartfelt Christmas song which [...]

Yep that's right ...... The Pieces of Shit! No I'm not going to slag off every shit band I don't normally mention on this blog. Sean Penn is looking like The Cure's Robert Smith for his new film "This Must Be the Place,". 'The Pieces of Shit' is David Byrne from Talking Heads forming a unique collaboration with Will Oldham and Irish Singer-songwriter Michael Brunnock. Brunnock leads most of the five original tunes from 'The Pieces of Shit', with the music by Byrne and the lyrics by Oldham. [...]

Today's the day when the full Top 50 current Irish artists list is complete. There's lots of great Irish artists I've excluded from my list due to not releasing any material in the last year and a bit. Artists such as The Frames, Lisa Hannigan and Junah, as well as artists that don't do it for me like Bell X1, Fight Like Apes and there's a fairly decent question mark over Declan O'Rourke! One artist I'd have loved to include is Gemma Hayes who is on the verge of releasing a new album. As Friday is [...]
