Last Saturday, Sydney band, Decoder Ring played as the feature act of the Riverbeats festival, a multicultural arts celebration on the banks of the Parramatta River. The location was certainly out of the ordinary, as far as gigs go. The stage was set up on one side of the river, with audience on the other. Above the stage was a giant white dome, with images being projected onto it. As you went down the river in either direction, there was an assortment of lights and candles and two more giant domes. It was certainly worthy of being called spectacle. [...]

This week, there were loads of videos that premiered. First up is Hilary's Reach Out, which has that bit of Gwen Stefani vibe going on (check out one of her costumes). Also here is Twilight's theme song, Paramore's Decode (clearer version in their website, here ). Below you can check out the new video for Ludacris' latest single One More Drink. Funny and entertaining. Watch out for cameos from D. Woods (of Danity Kane), Kat Williams, and Big Boi. And T.I's track featuring Rihanna, Live your Life can be seen here. Hayley Williams from Paramore is a huge Twilight fan and recently talked about her love of the books and the song's title: "Twilight is the first series of books I've ever read. I didn't get into the Harry Potter series even though I love the movies. Twilight really caught my attention and held it. I'm really excited to see the book adapted to film and excited that our band gets to be a part of the phenomenon. I chose the title "Decode" because the song is about the building tension, awkwardness, anger and confusion between Bella and [...]

Eis o alinhamento: The Classified (Barcelos) - Rock God Foomaça (Braga) - Não Sei mas Sinto Indignu (Barcelos) - Não Quero Doses Demais Party in Your Mouth [...]
This record sounds out of time as if jettisoned in from the previous decade. It is the sound of This Mortal Coil, Slowdive, Lush or (dare I say it) Cock Robin at their most effervescent. The truth is that it was only created in 2005 by Sydney 6-piece Decoder Ring for their 3rd album. Previous to this the band had penned the music to Aussie film 'Somersault' which was universally acclaimed and

Friend Kevin Church celebrates his thirty-third birthday today. I'm not exaggerating for the sake of praise when I say that BeaucoupKevin.com was a major source of inspiration behind my creating Armagideon Time. As someone who specializes in convienience and complacency, I find myself dumbfounded by the attention to detail and drive toward aesthetic excellence that Kevin puts into his site. The written content ain't bad, either. Kevin also collaborates with the also-awesome Benjamin Birdie on The Rack , a mighty fine webcomic, updated multiple times weekly, and [...]

T ony Barilla is the artistic director for Infernal Bridegroom Productions , an alternative theatre group in Houston. This past year they were part of a the unveiling of a play based on the songs of Daniel Johnston which included a new piece co-written with Barilla. Tony is also part of the creative force in the creation of songs by The Seximals, whose album No Glamour All Frenzy was released last year. Their sound is deeply reminiscent of a carousel ride [...]

If there's one thing that all music bloggers can agree on, it's that we all love doing lists. So when Sean from a-reminder asked me to submit one for his Australia's Top 25 Bands/Artists 2006 project, I jumped at the chance. Here is my top 10 (with final standings in brackets): 1. The Drones (2) 2005's Wait Long By The River.. is one of the all time greats, and this year's Gala Mill comes very close to [...]

mp3 : Decoder Ring - To Die [ Buy 'Fractions' ] The music of Sydney's Decoder Ring has been described as ambient, atmospheric and expansive. When they provided the musical score for Cate Shortland's debut film Somersault , the filmic qualities in their music were clear for everyone to see. As a live act, they are simply stunning, both visually and with sound - a feast for the senses. The poignant projections at the back of the stage seems [...]

They Shoot Horses Don't They? are an odd bunch from Vancouver, Canada. Their sound is absurd, crazy carnival marching band influencing on the side to folk and psychedelic. Pulling out trumphets and saxophones blended in with a touch of rock is going to end up as a freak show. Many would consider this hard to listen to, not a band for everyone but an exceptional one if you can stand it. They've been compared to Captain Beefheart. I don't know if it's been me lately but I've been hooked on a lot of obscure lyrics and yet again this [...]
