Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription . This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Each and every Friday we offer songs by local artists. Today's selection, featured on the Morning Show with John Richards, is "Girls" by Deep Sea Arcade from their 2012 album, Outlands , on Ivy League Records. Deep Sea Arcade – Girls ( MP3 ) [...]
Sydney's Deep Sea Arcade make a kind of echo-heavy, melodic psychedelic pop that recalls later Beatles or maybe mid-nineties Dandy Warhols ; that is to say, when you listen to songs like "Girls" you have to try really hard not to really want to roadtrip out to some kind of sunny field and spin around. Why this is always the go-to image for '60s and '70s-inspired psych-rock we're not sure, but it fits for Deep Sea Arcade – frontman Nic McKenzie's voice and lyrics read like an echo-soaked modern-age re-up of [...]

After a hectic as two thousand and eleven and an even more full on twenty twelve thus far, Deep Sea Arcade are kicking massive goals in just about every aspect of their fledgling career right now. Their debut album Outlands is an intricate balance between pop song writing and inventive arrangements, forming a solid variety of tracks to keep you interested all the way through to the end. After last year's successful EP as well as a couple of singles, Outlands was triple j's feature album a couple of weeks back. Add in [...]

True fans of music spend countless hours searching for that next great song, album or artist, whether it be online or in a local record shop. The beautiful thing about music in today's age is that technology has created an infinite supply of great music that is available to us at the click of a mouse. How perfect is that? We can discover a brand new artist on the opposite side of the globe in seconds without a radio or a music television channel. It only makes sense that a website so dedicated to this gorgeous universe of music would [...]

Deep Sea Arcade may hail from Sydney, Austrailia, but they bring all of the best elements of Britpop to their songs; catchy hooks, big drums, anthemic guitars, and Beatles-esque vocals. The five-piece has toured, appropriately and recently, with Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, The Charlatans and Modest Mouse. Their song Girls has been getting the most play on my headphones and we have it below for you to stream. I would expect to hear a lot more about these guys in the coming months. [...]

Deep Sea Arcade are a new Australian band that fuse all the best elements of sunny indie pop and spice it up with a few more dream-poppy elements. The ultimate resulting sound is not dissimilar to that of their fellow countrymen Tame Impala, but with more emphasis on the pop. They have an upcoming album called Outlands , and the first single from it is entitled "Girls." The track title may smack of obviousness to you, but "Girls" features more evocative and interesting lyrics than you'd think, and the chorus is so goddamn good that it doesn't even really [...]

MySpace | Facebook
Sydney's Deep Sea Arcade have always been a lover of the Sixties - with their kaleidoscopic sounds, Beatles and Zombies influence and Nic Mckenzie's dreamy, reverberated vocals. And you know what else they loved in the Sixties? Girls! So it's fitting, really, that 'Girls' is the title of Deep Sea Arcade's new video
Our East Coast homie, Parvez of Montreal State of Mind recently put together a nice disco mix. He mentions that the inspiration for the mix was the Spring / Summer season kicking off the Grand Prix, which took place this past weekend, and for those who missed it, you missed a pretty incredible race with [...]
