Here's the list of my favorite albums outside of Seattle for 2012. You may think it's late, but you should know I got it done before the Russian New Year. Kevin Shields, you still have a few more days. 1. Exlovers - exlovers ( Young And Lost Club ) Exlovers had my favorite single of 2011 and now my favorite record of 2012. Their debut album is a dreampop masterpiece that was a long time coming from this London band. [...]
Favorite Songs of 2012: Part 2 (50-1) You will have to take these list rankings with a grain of salt, because although I tried my best to accurately arrange the tracks, I change it every time I listen to one of the songs. I also only included my favorite song from each artist, so there are no doubles (except for I think one person, but they were part of two different groups). A few songs are also technically from before 2012, but they all appear on albums or [...]

Favorite Albums Of 2012 (Alex) After looking my top albums list over, I realize it's much more moody than years past. I think this might be because the majority of the time I listen to music is when I'm inside, and living in Seattle that means it's probably a little misty or cloudy out. If it's bright, shiny and beautiful out, I'm most likely frolicking in the sun and not listening to music that would fit for that type of weather. Or maybe I just liked [...]

Yesterday we saw my list from 50 to 41. Today, the countdown to my number one album of 2012 continues with Deer Creek Canyon by Sera Cahoone at number 40... but first, a few honorary mentions. Above is the cassette player I picked up last weekend. I think 2013 will see a large resurgence in the cassette as a novelty ironic item. In particular, don't be surprised if more labels start selling these and including digital downloads within the cassette packaging. * * * * * [...]

With the recent release of Our House on the Hill , the Mohawk was filled to the brim to catch the Babies in action. A line-up fueled by Austin acts only added to my personal anticipation, so we happily made our way out on the town. Read on for our thoughts and photos... Opening the evening was Gal Pals , the Austin duo banging out their dueling harmonies and folk-tinged garage-pop in a riveting fashion. Having only caught [...]

Well the end of 2012 is drawing to a close and we've run down the albums that got the most play around RSTB this year. To avoid the list just being a mass of Ty Segall albums Twins (a personal fave of the bunch) takes the place on the list but the other two would have easily made the list, especially the collab with White Fence which got plenty of play around here as well. Some really great releases this year and a banner year for both Drag City and Sacred Bones with some heavy inclusions in our list. [...]
It's that time of year folks, when we here at Austin Town Hall try to convince you that we know what's what in the world of music. We're starting things off with our list of Top Ten Austin Albums of 2012. We purposefully left out EPs, just focusing on the Album as a whole, since that's our favorite form of media. Before you read this, please know that this is just the expressed OPINION of ours, and you're definitely cool to disagree. Let us know your thoughts, and make sure your favorite Austin bands send us their hits in 2013! [...]

The end of 2012 is drawing close, and that means it's time to start making "best of" lists. Below you'll find the first part of my Top 50 Songs Of 2012 . In case you're curious, I chose the songs from the 400+ tracks that I shared around here throughout the last 11 months. Enjoy. 50) : White Wires - All Night Long : Every time I hear this pop punk gem I have to listen to the rest of their album, which is full of songs that are just as catchy. [...]
Back in 2010, the Austin based duo Yellow Fever released their self-titled debut, a collection of shambling pop tunes culled over the years from singles & EPs. Then after a relative silence for a time the band re-emerged this year with a follow up and a name change. The two linked up with Hardly Art to release a new full length as the newly dubbed Deep Time . This summer they took the show on the road to support said album and their tour brought them to one of our favorite venues, Comet [...]

Now that CMJ is over, it's time to check out a bunch of the tracks I have not posted recently. These are just a few of the songs that would get their own individual posts here on GIMME TINNITUS if I only had the time. Here is the next NOT POSTED mix. Listen. After years of waiting for another release by Unpiano favorites Yellow Fever , I pretty much gave up. Being awesomely quirky weirdos from some hot, beer-soaked, slow-moving place in Texas... the odds really were against them ever actually recording a "real" record (not just a vinyl re-release of a tour CDR and some singles). Somewhere along the line I completely missed the breaking news that they changed their name and (duh) did record a rock solid LP, released on Hardly Art a few months back. You can search old posts if you want something descriptive or informative, all I'm [...]
