New music from Azealia Banks, Deerhoof (feat. David Bazan), The Dø and M.I.A.! That is a lot of great new music for one Single Serving. Thankfully, I think you can take it. What you waiting for: give 'em a play. Azealia Banks - Bambi Uhm, so the new Azealia Bank's track is mind-melting (and, uhm, very N.S.F.W.)! As it stands now, Banks only offers up only a brief, but fiery, rap in the center of the track surrounded by giggling and small talk-like narration, but Pitchfork reports [...]

The latest in what may become my new favorite series, indie noise band Deerhoof and songwriter David Bazan (Pedro the Lion, Headphones) have just released a collaborative 7" featuring Bazan's somber vocals and newly written lyrics over a re-worked Deerhoof track. Affectionately known as DeerBazan, the release's A-Side, "No One Asked Bazan to Dance," is available to listen to right now. Taken from 2011's Deerhoof vs. Evil , the track "No One Asked to Dance" originally sounded light and airy, and it still retains Deerhoof's fluttery guitars and rhythms here; but with Bazan [...]

San Francisco genre-bending trio Deerhoof has released the latest installment in its ongoing split 73 series, which already includes joint efforts with Jeff Tweedy, Xiu Xiu, and Busdriver. It's a collaboration with Pedro the Lion's David Bazan , aptly entitled DeerBazan, and Side A features "No One Asked Bazan To Dance", in which Bazan sings his own lyrics over an instrumental version of Deerhoof Vs. Evil 's "No One Asked To Dance" . Side B comprises Bazan's live rendition of the Headphones track "Gas And Matches". Stream "No One Asked Bazan To Dance" [...]

Tweet Listen to Deerhoof 's new song (feat. David Bazan ) "No One Asked Bazan to Dance" below. A couple of weeks ago Polyvinyl announced that they'd be releasing a new 73 single of a collaboration between Deerhoof and David Bazan called "No One Asked Bazan to Dance" . Yesterday the label released the track to listen to, a Spanish-influenced jam that [...]

Ever wondered what 'No One Asked To Dance' by Deerhoof would sound like if Satomi Matsuzaki's vocals were replaced with David Bazans ? Of course you have! We ask ourselves that question on the regular. Anyway, as if by magic (though we fully suspect Polyvinyl have been reading our diaries) the track has appeard online. It's taken from the Deerhoof/David Bazan split 7", which is out now on limited edition clear blue vinyl. Listen below, then order it here .

Hear the impressive collab and pick up the 7".

Portland experimental pop act AU will release its third full-length album, Both Lights , on April 3rd via Hometapes. According to a press release, the album's 11 tracks are a reaction to the time between their last album, 20082s Verbs , and their subsequent lives and careers. It further adds: "More than a mere accompaniment, it's a gleaming mirror. It's an exaltation, an exhalation, a monument of extreme composition, the child of collaboration and isolation, a preamble to a wild live show, a statue intact in the violent wind of art and commerce, and, simply, a [...]
How often does something like this happen? The track streaming above is basically Wilco's Jeff Tweedy singing over the instrumental to the Deerhoof track "Behold a Marvel in the Darkness," which comes from Deerhoof's latest album, Deerhoof vs. Evil . Now all we need is to get Satomi over a few tracks on the Whole Love . Then we'll be all set!

2011 was the first year that I wasn't fully involved with OnlineRock , a company/website/label that I started back in 1999. I was looking forward to not being tethered to the website and having some freedom to explore other creative endeavors. At first I didn't think that much had happened in 2011 but looking back on it, it seemed to be a pretty eventful. From house concerts and traveling to books and recording, 2011 was one of the better years. Here are some of my highlights. Live Music: One thing [...]

Some years are great for shows – like 2008. Some are great years for albums, like 2009. But this was a great year for both, from the start. In the order I remembered them: Family Crest – My Living Room ; 9/11 Duh. Can you believe this alterna-dad cream dream supreme? A stalwart and happy-go-lucky nonet of classically trained musicians show up at my house to play their lovely, life-affirming chamber pop on the anniversary of 9/11 and my teenage son sits in on clarinet? You just had to be there. [...]
This year in music has been quite impressive. While 2010 gave us clear-cut, stand alone winners, it was much harder to determine which album was Top Ten worthy, let alone the best of 2011. Most sites have published their lists already, and while many albums appear on the same lists, the top ten varies greatly from list to list. Don't expect us to be any different. It's that time of year to look back on the past 12 months and say "what the hell happened to the last 12 months?!". It's also that time of year where us music bloggers and self-proclaimed critics take the time to put together some Best Of lists for your reading pleasure. They don't really mean a whole lot and you can love 'em or leave 'em, but it seems like the right thing to do to sum up the year in preparation of the next. This year we're featuring personal lists from all of our fantastic writers. [...]

5 Songs is a weekly series where we point out the strange, the grand, and the unique connections between our favorite songs. Let's get weird. Words by Chris There's a fine line between bashing you over the head and cradling your imagination. There's also a blend of seething irony that can make or break a whole vision. I'm thinking of the Obama Administration using "Fake Empire" by The National as a song for [...]
