We've been insanely excited about Deerhunter's fifth record  Monomania since the band gave us the cryptic-but-compelling designator "nocturnal garage" to refer to it when it was first announced, and we've been even more excited since they debuted the (awesome) title track in grand style on Jimmy Fallon. Monomania , the latest Deerhunter album, is streaming over at NPR. The follow-up to 20102s Halycon Digest finds the group in a more confrontational mood, with the whole thing feeling looser and slightly less melodically inclined than their past few releases. Still, it's a new Deerhunter album, which is always an exciting prospect and it'll be interesting to see how Monomania , which, for all those who are curious, means a "pathological obsession with one idea or subject", will hold up after a couple of listens. So far 2013 has my head all screwed up. The new Deerhunter albums sounds like what The Strokes new album was supposed to be and The Strokes new album sounds like Daft Punk or some shit. Well it's not like we didn't see this coming. Ever since Bradford Cox started a side project with Cole from Black Lips, he has slowly been dripping garage all over the pink plush carpet that is Deerhunter.
