Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliott and Ronnie James Dio look to be starting a feud for the ages. Elliott comments: The only time that I will say something negative about a band is when I'm just being pissy, because they say something negative about me. If Ronnie James Dio — as he did — said on that YouTube piece when somebody mentioned Vivian [Campbell, Def Leppard guitarist], "I hope he fuckin' dies!" I would just say, "Ronnie James Dio, go fuck yourself!" So if somebody says, "Def Leppard suck!", then I'll just [...]
Last month, Joe Elliott told an Irish newspaper that he thought his former Headbanger's Ball cohorts Poison, Winger, and Warrant were "shite bands," and that he was too busy chasing after the latest tunes by the Stereophonics to even think about touring with them. Well, Poison members Rikki Rockett and Bret Michaels were not happy to hear that news, especially since they've been doubting the veracity of his band's live performances as of late. And Rockett wasn't afraid to say something about that on his blog! I was talkin' with some [...]

"Hey, you got synth-pop in my hair metal!" "Hey, you got hair metal in my synth pop!" "Actually, it's Atlanta based rock group Dearestazazel! Wow!" Dearestazazel employ their unique talents to making a number of epic and musically complex songs that are driving and catchy on their new album Be Mine . The synth and guitar often entwine in a sweetly serpentine way that sometimes yields something akin to Violator era Depeche Mode and sometimes yields something more like a dark sped up Def Leppard thanks to some sweet riffs and [...]

Although one cannot help but lament the loss of NYC's iconic CBGB 's back in 2006, there is some small consolation in the opening of The Morrison Hotel Gallery in CB's former gallery space. With the arrival of the MHG comes a new exhibit named Rockers , slated to open April 24th from can't-come-up-with-adequately- grandiose-adverbs famous photographer Bob Gruen . If the name is not familiar to you, I can GUARANTEE you that some of his pictures, including the one of John Lennon above, are. Much [...]
I need to be a better listener: I thought Matt said "no hip-hop" instead of "only one," so my list is heavy on the rock and/or roll side. Had I been paying closer attention, you might find something from Handsome Boy Modeling School below, but I still think my list is a good one. Hope you dig: 1. Alabama 3, "Hello, I'm Johnny Cash" My favorite acid house/country practitioners from Bristol (UK) penned this ultimate tribute to the Man in Black a couple of years ago, and it was probably my favorite single [...]
Ahhh, April Fool's Day is here again and all around the world people are pulling pranks on their family, friends and co-workers. I've been part of pulling off a prank today and I've been the victim of a rather ingenious prank. So, my April Fool karma is about even I suppose. I seem to get the most feedback from the themed posts so I thought I might as well throw a few songs into a post and
SO first KIX then this?? I know I know. My random made me remember what a great rock song this was and how cool DL was before all that Sugar pouring!! Def Leppard - Mirror Mirror (Look into my Eyes)

"Razzle 'n' a dazzle 'n' a flash a little light Television lover, baby, go all night Sometime, anytime, sugar me sweet Little miss ah innocent sugar me, yeah..." -Def Leppard - "Pour Some Sugar On Me" Like all good Georgia Bulldogs fans I was thrilled by the way Coach Mark Richt and the Dawgs turned ...

Long before the days that the video for "Photograph" would saturate every living room on the planet, a band from Sheffield called Def Leppard released two albums. While neither release would measure up to the success that would follow...they are definitely worth a listen... High 'N' Dry especially. The summer that their third album, Pyromania , was released in 1983...the life of this young rocker was destined to change. I remember buying a Sanyo cassette player and that cassette and [...]

I've got lots of work this week, and I also have to organize a weekend trip for 15 people for next weekend, so I really won't be able to put up a proper post this week. Therefore I've decided to take a blog holiday until next week. I've got a few things lined up for you, so if I can find some time this week, I will use it to prepare and polish that stuff. If all goes well, I'll be back here on August 20th (probably with a big hangover from the weekend...); hope you will visit me again [...]

There were six of us, on the lawn, center stage pumped and ready to see Def Leppard perform at the Tweeter Center. The place was packed with fans and the energy was undeniable. Styx opened and I love them. I'm such a sucker for late 70s and 80s music. Styx has amazing guitar players, but James "J.Y." Young and Lawrence Gowan share the keys and so they are my favorites. =o) Oh my gosh "Crystal Ball" is just such an awesome song, I love it! And of course "Come Sail Away" which I [...]

Woohoo! It is the U.S. Independence Day. Quick history lesson for you.. I got this excerpt from a book written by Pauline Maier. This particular passage is actually included on the government website for The United States Department of State... "The Declaration of Independence is in fact a curious document. After the Civil War members of Lincoln's party tried to write its principles into the Constitution by enacting the Thirteenth, Fourteenth, and Fifteenth Amendments, which is why issues of racial or age or gender equality are now so often fought out in [...]
Comin' atcha first thing every Monday morning, it's The Pony Track, a super-fantastic short distance dedication to BadmintonStamps Collective founding member and internationally renown symbol for musical excellence Aaron "Pony" Child. No fancy links, no clever write-ups, 'cause these awesome songs don't need no splainin'. So c'mon, ride the pony!

A Heavy Metal History Part 2: The Great Divide Ahh, the 80's, mainly renowned for the mullet and the synthesiser, two things which can be found in the incredible divergence of heavy metal in the 1980's. Many people look down on the 80's, ignoring it musically to avoid seeming kitsch. Whats the matter with kitsch, everything to do with metal is kitsch and that's [...]
In case you haven't been reading my other blog, I should bring you up to speed on how I've been making posts recently: I broke my left pinkie finger about 2 weeks ago, making it really painful/difficult to type. I wanted to keep my regular posting schedule, so I began recording my posts as videos, creating a series of "hands-free" entries. I'm still not able to type well, so the hands-free postings will continue here. YouTube has a 10-minute limit on the length of uploaded videos, so I had to split my comments on this month's songs into [...]
One of these is the original from Def Leppard's 1987 classic Hysteria . I can even remember it having the #1 spot on the MTV top ten coundtown way before TRL was even invented. The other is a markedly different reworking from modern day pop songstress Emm Gryner . And as fond of the original as I am, I think the reworking is actually pretty good too. MP3 | Def Leppard - Pour Some Sugar On Me Hysteria [...]

Nestled within the power balladry and sugary stripper anthems of Def Leppard's Hysteria is "Gods Of War", a rare detour into political rock 'n roll music with its artillery fire intro (it's the pop precursor to Metallica's "One"!), Thatcher and Reagan audio snippets, and a futility-of-war philosophy borrowed from original Cold War Kid, Joshua Falken. It also starts off what has become my favorite trio on the album -- while glorious, the singles start to exhibit diminishing returns after hearing them 4,608 times. As Reagan's hawkish warning fades, the vaguely garagey "Don't Shoot Shotgun" [...]

For those who care about such things, Def Leppard's Hysteria is being reissued as a double-disc set next month, in honor of its twentieth anniversary next year (ah, how the time flies--where were you when love first bit?). We seriously worship the 'Lep, and want to use this announcement as a flimsy excuse for introducing a new recurring thingee called "Coulda-Woulda-Shoulda." Each week, we'll look at songs that came thisclose to being a hit, only to whiff out. Our debut entry: Artist: Def Leppard [...]
Def Leppard...
