I've been following Magic Wands for about a year or so now. Their track 'Black Magic' was one of my favourite finds of last year yet they seemed to have stalled for a while. Now, they are cranking back into gear with a new EP Magic, Love and Dreams EP with the lead track 'Warrior' with the obligatory cool remixes from The XX , Crystal Fighters and Natalie Portman's Shaved Head . Apparently, the were awful at SXSW 2008 so hopefully they've improved since. They certainly seemed to have [...]
I'm a huge Defend Moscow fan, so today's video of the day is their forthcoming single, "Die Tonight", a moody affair for their debut video. Also, enjoy the B-side, "Sign of Life" below. MP3: Defend Moscow – Sign of Life Click here to view the embedded video.

Earlier this year, I reviewed the band's first single "Manifesto." The single showed some promise and it was generally a passable first single. "Die Tonight" has a very playful 80s pop vibe through the whole song. The physical girl/boy vocal duet and that quirky little bit make for a fun song to bring out every [...]

Next month Magic Wands will release their EP Magic Love and Dreams which I previously proclaimed my love for. Some remixes have been dropping into my inbox to help promote it. God thing is these remixes are pretty grand. Here's two sweet remixes of the opening track "Warrior" as as another solid redux of the lead single "Black Magic" by L'amour La Morgue . mp3: Magic Wands - Warrior (DEFEND MOSCOW Remix) mp3: Magic Wands - Warrior (The XX Remix) mp3: Magic [...]

The electro-pop quintet formed by musicians from London, Bergen & Paris, is about to release a brand new single next month on the 6th. To celebrate the upcoming release, Dead Moscow is giving away a remix of the single by France's One Night Stand . "Die Tonight" | download These kids are so hot right now that [...]
We've already written a fair bit about Defend Moscow already , so I'll keep this short. Download this. It's perfect pop. It's a B-Side to their forthcoming single, Die Tonight which is out on Monday, but it's pretty amazing, and was featured in last week's NME as a track you should download. So, what are you waiting for? Go on, give it a go and leave us a comment below to let us know what you think. MP3: Royksopp - Lily And [...]

Imminent danger raises blood pressure, releases adrenaline and, in some cases, makes one aroused. Magic Wands , the boy/girl duo we called "emerging" a short time ago for their sexed up rawness, are easily the most danger-filled band we've come to know as of late. But it's understated danger, the sort of walking-in-shadows startle in lieu of the known-well sort. "Warrior", off of their July 6-released EP Magic, Love And Dreams , is 80s bliss covered in sweaty, steady pulses of noise pop crutches and singer Dexy's malaise-filled vocals. The video for the song [...]

We've already covered our love for Defend Moscow here on TGTF before, with their amazing pop that's more intelligent than your average McFly song. Time for their second single, "Die Tonight" explores the thoughts that would go through the minds of people informed that a nuclear attack had been launched and certain death was mere minutes away. The B-side isn't much happier - "Signs of Life" tells the story of sitting beside someone on life support. Who ever said that pop had to be all sunny stories of sex and [...]

Defend Moscow do sparkling and spirited dance-pop with a resolute chirpiness ill befitting of their gloom-inspiring name. And while the songs with all their studied sheen are indeed a lot of fun, there's something holding me back from really loving them. With time and the right producer though, this could be really special. Defend Moscow - Die Tonight [ YS ] Defend Moscow - Something Good [ YS ] [...]

Can you give us some background on how the band got together? It was a very random process - myself (Dave, guitars) and Jon (vocals) have been friends for ever, and have always been in bands together. About 2 years ago I bought a keyboard and we started writing synthpop songs and we had enough, we started to look for other people to join the band. I met Sofie (vocals) through work in Bergen, Norway and she moved over to the UK in September, we met Adam (drums) through advertising old-school style on a messageboard at [...]

As many of you probably already know, at TGTF we love our pop. We introduced you all to the greatness of Defend Moscow a few weeks back , and were fortunate enough to be able to catch up with Dave, Defend Moscow's able guitarist about the band and just how such a cosmopolitan mix of people met. For those who are a bit slow off the mark, how would you describe your sound? It is electropop with a dash of indie, and a zest of dance [...]

"Manifesto" the new single from Defend Moscow as completely new to me before putting the record on. I did not read the press release or hit the bands myspace so I had no expectations of the sound. But, what came on was a bit of a surprise to me. The track is a marriage of 80s synth pop with 70s disco traits that sounds like the band is having a conflict of identity. The track is also long at clocking in at over 4 minutes. I think many would look differently on the track if it was cut down to [...]

Defend Moscow 's perfectly preened pop, colourfully tainted with a quirky electro edge is set to soar the airwaves this year. Like so many artists out there right now - such as Little Boots and Frankmusik - Defend Moscow are passionate about nostalgic 80s electro-pop. They cite everyone from Human League, Kylie and Frankie Goes to Hollywood as just some of their vintage influences. Looking for a more contemporary take on the band? Think chart-frequenters Alphabeat, only with a little more spice. You only have to read the band's MySpace blog to realise that Defend Moscow [...]
