An extremely welcome surprise in 2011 was Reports From The Threshold Of Death, a throbbing, gauzy dream-rock record from Boston's Junius (read here). One shitty major magazine described Reports as the intersection of Neurosis and The Smiths, but a sharper listen reveals Deftones-sized hooks and melancholic majesty more akin to Loveless by My Bloody Valentine and [...]

To me, nothing is as fully sweet like pop music played heavy and with controlled virtuosity. It's like a famous master chef whipping up simple, delicious hot dogs for my face; it seems foolish to abandon such classic fare to high-volume/low-margin assembly lines, right? Hence my devotion to the jamz of Rush, Bay Area thrash, [...]
Deftones bassist Chi Cheng has been bedridden in a hospital bed since late 2008 after a horrific car accident left him a coma. Cheng is thankfully finally making some serious progress in his recovery, having recent awoken from his coma and has even been able to respond to basic commands, including lifting his legs. He ...

by BBG Some encouraging news. Chi Cheng of Deftones , who was badly injured and went into a coma after a car crash , is recovering slowly but surely. Check out a new video of Chi Cheng in the hospital, which was posted along with an ongoing campaign to raise money for his family and medical care, below. Best of luck to him. The band has soldiered on without him , with Deftones vocalist Chino also [...]

After four years in a coma, Deftones bassist Chi Cheng has begun to show some promising progress. While he remains semi-concious, he has begun responding to outside stimuli and is able to move his legs when asked. Cheng was seriously injured in November 2008 after a severe crash in Santa Clara, California. Cheng has been opening his eyes and responding to his surrounding for some time but still cannot respond verbally. Sadly, Cheng's family has been having financial issues after losing his insurance just a few months after the [...]
It's been over three years since Deftones' bassist Chi Cheng was in a serious car accident that left him in a coma. It's been a long, difficult struggle for Chi and his family, but every little bit of news about an improvement in his condition, no matter how small, provides a much-needed boost of hope. [...]

Deftones bassist Chi Cheng, who was involved in a car accident in November of 2008 that left him in a vegetative state, is continuing to show signs of improvement and has even awoken from a semi-comatose state. Down below, you can check out a video of Cheng being able to raise his leg on command. It's a hopeful sign but he's not out of the woods yet. He still can't communicate verbally but can open his eyes from time to time and see and hear things around him. Cheng is currently in a facility [...]

Tweet vaso link I didn't pay much attention to the EP from the particularly witch housed named ††† (pronounced Crosses) when it was released last year; that wasn't for any good reason other than I just overlooked it; so if you're at all like me, you might not know that the synth-heavy duo is fronted by Chino Moreno, more famously known as the raw-throated frontman of Deftones. If you want to remember Deftones to be the fury of [...]
Perhaps inspired by last week's stream of Deftones frontman Chino Moreno's collaboration with Circa Survive's Anthony Green, last week I finally got around to listening to the debut EP by another of Moreno's projects, ††† ("Crosses"), his electronic collaboration with Far's Shaun Lopez. I found the EP not just listenable but really, really good - after [...]
Your first taste of the witch house group's forthcoming second EP.
Well folks it's been a while since I last had a chance to do any sort of write ups for The Ripple. While I have been listening to countless amounts of music I have had little time to do a proper write up. This past holiday season has been a handful. Recently, we at The Ripple Effect were asked to write up about the first album we bought with our own money. I remember it like it was only yesterday. I was flipping through a music magazine, probably Circus or some shit and came across an advertisement for [...]
Chino Moreno has always been one to extend his vocal talents far beyond the screaming, crooning and jumping around like a madman in high socks that he's best known for as the frontman of Deftones. See his work with Team Sleep and Crosses, his guest appearances with Soulfly, Sevendust, Whitechapel, Korn, Norma Jean and many [...]

On December 8, 1996, I ventured out in the freezing Minneapolis night towards downtown music venue First Avenue to see Orange 9mm. Late-era Helmet guitarist Chris Traynor was in that band, as was future Glassjaw/Head Automatica drummer Larry Gorman at some point. I was on the club's permanent guest list, so it took no doing [...]

It's time to dust off the old record player, put back that copy of Barry Manilow II that you obviously only listen to because your mom left it there, and beef up that vinyl collection of yours. Just like that time we grudgingly bailed you out of jail, Consequence of Sound , as always, has got you covered. This time, however, we are armed with just the right amount of hard-rock goodness. Specifically, eight LPs of hard-rock goodness from Sacramento-based, alternative hard-rock outfit, Deftones . We are giving away a copy of [...]
