mp-FREE: new Deftones - "Melanie"

mp-FREE: new Deftones - "Melanie" (photo by Kristi Odom) Ok, ok, ok. If any of you bastards are even bothering to cry "Judas" at us for posting anything about the guys in Deftones , shut up. Our years in high school in the mid-to-late nineties could well be classified by some as "misspent" due to our penchant for third-wave ska, pre-nu metal metal and the entire catalog of Dischord Records , but to us, that just isn't the case. And we're certainly not even close to apologies about our previous listening behaviors in regard to Deftones. [...]

EXCLUSIVE DOWNLOAD: DON THE READER - "TEETHGRINDER"

Z Rock Trailer - IFC - Premieres Sunday, August 24 11:30pm
Here's a fucking fresh new band for ya'll to check out. Despite their puzzling name, Don the Reader are the explosive result of what happens when you mix the dissonant, raw energy of The Dillinger Escape Plan with the aggression and riffage of the Deftones and the post-punk melodic sensibility of Helmet or Quicksand. YouTube Live: Deftones' Big Day Out

YouTube Live: Deftones' Big Day Out Deftones : people either love em or hate em. I've never met a person who casually listens to this band. I am one of those who love these boys from Sacramento. Thumbing through their impressive catalogue of albums, there is not one which stands out as better than the next. Although many fans were quick to dismiss their latest effort, Saturday Night Wrist , I felt it to be a great listen front to back. Many fans were quick to shoot it down without spending time listening to the softer sides of Chino Moreno and co. With [...]

The Deftones set to rock Ventura

The Deftones set to rock Ventura Some of you may be surprised to find that we are huge Deftones fans. That is why we are excited to announce their upcoming show at The Majestic Theatere in Ventura, California. A bit far, but not too far, for all of us L.A. folks. The band will play a Friday night show on September 19th. It's probably a safe bet to assume that they will preview a few new songs from their upcoming album. Drummer Abe Cunningham recently posted this update on the band's blog - [...]

Vessels - New material

A while back I attended the Live at Leeds festival and discovered local experimental-rock band, Vessels. Thanks to Ben from Cuckundoo Records I now have a single and it is seriously impressive. I mean, seriously. 'A Hundred Times In Every Direction' is best described as a journey. There are subtleties here I never realised in the live setting and I can already see the progression the band is making. Bands like Mogwai and Explosions in the Sky have pushed themselves further into the record collections of the average muso and people are no longer scared of those long [...]

REASON TO BELIEVE THE NEW DEFTONES ALBUM WILL BE AWESOME

REASON TO BELIEVE THE NEW DEFTONES ALBUM WILL BE AWESOME Despite being the universally-heralded godfathers of the dreaded nu-metal movement, The Deftones have always been kind of left-of-center and have somehow manages to remain kind of cool. Throughout their now 15+ year career, the Deftones have evolved into some kind of quirky, alternative (in the true sense of the word) metal band that has somehow managed to straddle the line between art and commercial viability quite well. That said, the band's last two albums - 2003's self-titled and 2006's Saturday Night Wrist - have been solid but ultimately lacking in that intangible element that made the [...]
