When The Del McCoury Band teamed up with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band to record the album American Legacies , the merging of the two bands represented more then just a simple musical collaboration. The union brought together two groups who serve as the ambassadors of their respective genres, stewards of American music heritage. Over the years, beyond being of the foremost musicians in their respective genres, both The Del McCoury Band and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band under the direction of Ben Jaffe have taken on roles tasked with spreading the legacies of bluegrass [...]

We keep our eyes peeled for new tour dates announcements each week and compile them on Tuesdays for this handy column… Reunion-mania seemed to finally peak in 2010, when after over a decade apart influential indie-rock band Pavement regrouped for a highly successful, lengthy world tour. After spending the majority of last year on the road with his former band mates, Stephen Malkmus will release his fifth solo album, Mirror Traffic, with his longtime band The Jicks . Produced by Beck, the 12-track album will be released via Matador on August 23. [...]

Day 2-Voodoo Experience Festival, New Orleans, LA (10-31-09)-2511 , originally uploaded by BetweenLoveandLike . The Preservation: An Album Benefitting Preservation Hall and the Preservation Hall Music Outreach Program record came out in February and it was chock full of incredible contemporary musicians doing classic New Orleans songs with the great Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Tom Waits proclaimed "Tootie Ma" to be a big fine thing on it, but what's bigger, as well as finer?? Why free records of course! As a way to say thanks to some of the artists involved, [...]

I was running some errands the other day, driving from place to place to take care of whatever I needed done, when something occurred that made me think. (Not that I wasn't already thinking, but you know what I mean.) It actually started when I tried to park near a store that had a zillion empty handicapped parking spots, but the nearest regular one was a long hike. I sometimes have a hitch in my walk - remember Walter Brennan? - but I won't park in a handicapped spot, and my gimpy gait certainly doesn't rise [...]

I'm here only tentatively . Peeking shyly from around the corner. Trying to build up the courage to join the crowd in the center of the dance floor doing the Soulja Boy or whatever the kids are doing in the center of the dance floor these days. Reminds me of Junior High School dances. I'm not being coy. I'm not being melodramatic. Or at least I don't think so. I've never been very sensitive to my own melodramatics, which is why I've been tagged as a 'drama queen' more than once in my days. I am [...]

Chris Knight's latest release Trailer Taper II lived up to expectations, a set of excellent solo acoustic recordings showcasing the strength of Chris' writing. One of my favourite Chris Knight songs appeared on the Del McCoury album "Moneyland", Chris performed the track with Del and his band on Woodsongs along with Crooked Road and Danville from 2008's "Heart of Stone" album. If you're a Chris fan you'll love this three song set, you can watch / listen and download the complete show from the Woodsongs archive . A Train Not Running - Chris [...]
Das nennt man dann auch Blues.I woke up that morning.Um sechs in der Früh rief mich der sechste Berg in den vergangenen vier Wochen. Schweizer Nationalfeiertag, strahlend blauer

Bruce & The E Street Band will setup shop for a three-night run to take place on September 30, October 2 and 3. Tickets for these shows go on-sale on June 1 at 10AM. List [...]
