You may know local beatmaker Tarun Nayar from his very popular touring group Delhi 2 Dublin or from Beats Without Borders . This year, Tarun released a solo album 22º of Beatitude . Like all his projects, the record is a fusion of more mainstream beats and music from Eastern cultures. But the record also serves as a travelogue of sorts, compiling of all the sounds Tarun has collected from over 10 years of traveling around Asia. Join us this week as we talk about Tarun's fantastic journeys. [...]

'Never mind,' sings Dizraeli, near the end of his Chai Wallah-igniting Sunday night set, 'it doesn't matter what you look like, all that matters is you dance, 'cos it's a very, very short life.' I could easily scour this indecently charismatic firebrand's brilliant lyrics and find a few thousand phrases that would work as perfect life mottos or statements of intent, but if there's one line that sums up my feelings about music festivals, particularly as the season draws to a close, this is it. Never mind. It doesn't matter what you look like. All that matters is you dance. [...]

Mother nature did not cooperate on the last day of the Ottawa Folk Festival . So there was alot of rescheduling of the music workshops that was suppose to happened on the Sunday afternoon. Mostly spent being inside the Bowie Theatre all day. But overall with the chaos that happened, things went pretty smoothly. The workshop that I saw were: Sunny Side Up with Robyn Dell'Unto , The Musettes and Ladies of the Canyon [...]

On our way to Hong Kong for Music Matters we decided to shoot a video blog...but we got interrupted halfway through! more about "Delhi 2 Dublin Vlog Interrupted By Ai...", posted with vodpod

We sat down with Delhi 2 Dublin in the green room (shed) before their show at Nectar . Nicole Kristek for melophobe : So you guys played SXSW again. What showcase did you get put with? Tarun : Well, we aren't on a indie label or a major label, so we don't really have a lot of buying power that those labels have, to get the premium slots. So we were actually at the same place we played last year called The Copa. And it's not [...]
The Blue Shadows - When Will This Heartache End (mp3)* This wonderful little song sounds like it could've been recorded in the 1950s, but The Blue Shadows' debut album On The Floor of Heaven was actually released in 1993. The album has since been out of print, but will be reissued on June 1st. Pre-order @ Amazon (not yet available) *mp3 hosted by & posted w/ permission of band's PR rep ****************************** ******* Damien Jurado - Cloudy Shoes (mp3)* [...]

DATE: 04-05-10 WRITER: Don Loder Another surprise visit from Don Loder. This instalment of your regularly-issued SWAG Report is a bit different – not all of the songs I'm totin' are brand spankin' new. "Why Don?" You're askin', "Why are you unloading a couple of older tunes on us? We might have [...]

First off, while you read this review you should really push that little mp3 play button, just to get you in the mood. It was a night of good vibes, dancing, jumping, whooping, and a few really stinky people. But what else can you expect at a world music event, am I wrong? In my opinion, Nectar Lounge brings in some of the best (if not THE best) lineup of world pop music acts in Seattle. And Nectar didn't fail me this night either with Delhi 2 Dublin , the Vancouver-based quintet that blasted the [...]

I wasn't going to do Bumbershoot this year. Initially I had planned to be out of town, and then I let myself be influenced by the complaints of my friends and my own reluctance. I wasn't too jazzed about the prospect of hanging out with a million (give or take) people in the hot sun/pouring rain all day long, or paying three times the ticket price than when I first began attending. And I wasn't overly enthralled with the headlining talent they selected (though I do love Michael Franti and Spearhead ). But then I ran [...]

Day Three: Having dinner at my favorite Indian restaurant in Tacoma a few months ago, a friend and I were bopping at the table to what sounded like Celtic beats with Punjabi lyrics. We were informed that the restaurant had just purchased the Delhi 2 Dublin CD that day and were trying it out. I didn't sit still for the rest of dinner. I was stoked to see them on the Bumbershoot lineup this year and it was by far the best show of my weekend. Reaping the benefits of a temporary downpour, [...]

It rained. It poured. But for our troubles we made the front page of the Seattle Weekly's coverage ! First up was my most anticipated show, Visqueen . I love them so much. Check out their video for Crush On The Radio , although my favourite song is actually Vaxxine. It came as a huge disappointment to me when they played their new album in it's entirety with neither of songs I wanted to [...]
... the non-english speaking version. 01. K'naan wrote "Soobax" to protest the occupation of Somalia, his home country by hostile troops. Soo bax means "Get Out," according to the amnesty international site. I am majorly fond of K'naan, and this is a great song. 02. G-Dragon, dubbed "the Korean Lady Gaga" by my friend K., singing his hit song "Heartbreaker." Is it the white hair or the commitment to androgyny? I'm hooked. 03. More Korean pop, from the Wonder [...]

Hey there Rootsians: I'm off to Bumbershoot today, will return with sonic stories and aural adventures. I mentioned that one of my target shows is Vieux Farka Toure. One other group I'm eager to see is Ontario-based Delhi 2 Dublin, a fabulous Indo-Celtic band that has made a few swings around North America that I've missed. I expect their spicy blend of Celtic, Indian, and dub music will be a sweet tonic for those of us in the Northwest now enduring the first serious rain of what will soon become our extended wet season. Bring on the chutney, [...]
