I'm increasingly becoming a fan of meandering background tracks - the kind perfect for zoning in and getting some work done. The last thing that you want is a song that's too distracting. About five days ago, RCRDLBL picked up Ki:Theory's " I Wanna Run ," [...]

...The night approaches fast er this time of year, a day seems like like a race to sundown. The air a bit colder, the rain carries a bite . The dark clouds hover just a bit longer. Something about the fall captures my imagination like no other time of year. I feel it's fitting to celebrate my favorite season with a soundtrack for it's signature holiday, Halloween . So here's a sixty minute mix by yours truly [...]

Heks Orkest [witch orchestra] is a reincarnation created from the ashes and limbs of old bands like Engine Down, Denali, Avail, Sparta, etc and it doesn't take too long to see where the influences and creative concepts come from. How Will It All Fit is a fast paced, guitar ripping slam which clears all the dust off these old schoolers. At the same as picking out who plays what, it's hard to not notice that this project is offering something new for our ears to be filled with. MP3 :: Heks Orkest - [...]

Image From Here I don't know what it is but I need something. Random thoughts crowd my overloaded mind and I can't sort through it all. There is definitely something lacking in my existence on this earth. Maybe, it's the lack of having someone to hold and love? Maybe, it's just the lack of having a real life to live? But, all I know is that I need something to help me through. Something to believe in to fill the void in my soul. And, I'm not talking about material things [...]

Another month has passed us by. Summer is starting. Time for great music to come through the area is massive quantities. This weekend is no exception. Friday is loaded with big names and your local favorites. Here is what's hapening: So many huge acts are hitting the IA area this weekend. For those of you that cut your musical teeth around my time (late '80s/early '90s), a couple of shows may peak your interest. Jane's Addiction and Nine Inch Nails [...]
While they did perform a few reunion shows last year, Denali called it quits back in April of 2004 after just two albums. Unfortunately for me, by that time I had still only heard the mp3 I've provided below "Hold Your Breath." Everything about the song sucked me in: the guitar work, the dark female vocals, the strong rhythm... from The Instinct (2003) Hold Your Breath "Normal Days" performed March 5, 2004 at The Echo Lounge in Atlanta.

Click picture to go to TheHyp.net No not Hype Machine . Most of you probably found this place because of Hype Machine so that would be completely pointless. I'm talking about the just launched Boston based website that covers the local New England indie music scene as well as subjects like beer, film, video games, and tomato soup. Created by two friends who are willing to expose their imaginations and twisted opinions to the world, TheHyp.net is more than just another music review site. See, this website doesn't care if you agree with its skewed [...]
After reuniting earlier this month at The National and having quite a bit of fun along the way, Denali has decided to keep on going, at least for the time being, with a couple more shows. While no extensive tour is planned, the Richmond, Virginia/Matt Friedman-approved rockers recently shared their future plans via myspace . Well sheesh. We knew it was going to be fun to get back together, but we really had no idea that so many would notice. While we will not be touring, we have decided [...]

SONG DER WOCHE Die Band heisst Denali . Denali - Hold Your Breath | mp3 [...]

Denali was one of those Richmond bands that was a staple in the local rock scene. When they broke up in 2003, it looked the city had lost them forever. Now the band has reunited to perform at The National this Saturday, July 5. While I was never a hue Denali fan when they were around, I realized well after the break up of what I had missed. High energy power rock with insightful lyrics and catchy hooks made me instantly pay attention to this band and made me kick myself for not finding out about them [...]

From 2000-2004, Richmond's Denali was the shit to me. Maura Davis's voice was one of the reasons why I fell for the female fronted band. They introduced a seemingly undiscovered aspect of music to me back in the early 00's: that bands can be found on the internet. This was a revelation to me and their music made me search and find bands that aren't getting the exposure that they should. I can't describe the feeling I got when I first heard Relief from their self titled debut. It was like discovering a new feeling or [...]
Denali - Gunner Evening - Breast Milk Saves Sixteen At Sea Convoj - My Timekeeping Heart The Verve - Weeping Willow Liars - The Other Side Of Mt. Heart Attack

A quick update. Near trip-hop sunday. Denali (2001-2004), theory has it, was recruited by Jade Tree record so they can dissociate themselves with 'emo' style Jade tree is so famous for several years ago. Well, the experiment didn't last long. Denali broke up shortly after their second album. Short bio aside, Denali has that sort of minimalist appeal of early electronica layered in indie rock. The expansive voicing and slow rythm could have been mistaken for some of later trip-hop works from Portishead , Garbage or Tricky . Had they know [...]
Lush & moody indie rock today from Denali, on their 2002 self-titled release. Pretty straightforward, but the singer sure sounds purty. One more Pandora find; the trial period is almost over... Denali - French Mistake Denali - Lose Me Denali...
