Cement Slippers | Dengue Fever
Psychedelic rockers Dengue Fever have played around the globe with both their outstanding support for political movements and tunes that are just as strong-headed. Hailing from Los Angeles (and always shouting out to Echo Park), Chhom Nimol, Zac Holtzman, Ethan Holtzman, Senon Williams, Paul Smith and David Ralicke have made their grooves accessible to fans — whether they understand Cambodian or not — as well as paved the way for similarly-flavored bands such as Fool's Gold to transcend language barriers in the indie rock scene. After releasing their fifth album, "Cannibal Courtship," the bilingual group is getting [...]

Check out: Dengue Fever—Cement Slippers

Check out: Dengue Fever—Cement Slippers I first discovered Dengue Fever on an excellent CD compilation of world music, The Rough Guide to Planet Rock , and I quickly fell in love with their song "We Were Gonna." In my mind, this was the music that should have been playing in the Jabba the Hutt's palace scene in Return of the Jedi , not Sy Snootles and Max Rebo (but I reveal my nerd roots). Now, had I been paying more attention, I might have noticed this band from the use of their songs in films like Matt [...]

Festival Frolics: Friday, Glastonbury 2011.

Festival Frolics: Friday, Glastonbury 2011. Regardless of the perpetual brilliance of the Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts , the beautiful beast that Worthy Farm, Somerset becomes for five days or so mutates substantially not merely musically nor in terms of the muck, but also in its essence, year upon year. If last year was centred upon the inescapable omnipresence of The xx and hordes of onstage collaborative bashes , this year saw the introduction of a near-Biblical pilgrimage to the round the clock hedonism of Shangri-La, whilst elsewhere the festival's humble beginnings of distant decades were rekindled with the disappointingly underattended Spirit [...]

Dengue Fever – Cement Slippers

Dengue Fever – Cement Slippers I had to double-check this one, but I definitely saw Dengue Fever in the summer of 2007 at a Jelly Pool Party in Brooklyn, NY - and it was amazing. The band is the quintessential product of Los Angeles with diverse sounds and sights. Their music is an exotic blend of Cambodian rock, Afro grooves, surf and garage rock. Imagine if the B-522s spent more time backpacking through South East Asia. The most recent single "Cement Slippers" packs in a ripping saxophone solo with an infectious chorus. Their newest album Cannibal Courtship came out [...]
