I clearly remember going to see Two Lane Blacktop in 1971 and being completely enamored with the film. It featured two of my favorite musicians, James Taylor and Dennis Wilson, both of whom were quite laconic in the movie. I myself was a man of few words back then which you might find hard to read if you are frequent reader of this blog. It also didn't hurt that the movie was all about fast cars.....back in the late 1960s early 1970s I was absolutely muscle car crazy. For those of you that aren't from the US, I don't [...]

I wanted to post Vanishing Point today, but couldn't find it. Instead, please enjoy Two Lane Blacktop, another 1971 road movie directed by Monte Hellman, starring James Taylor (yes, that James Taylor), the Beach Boys' own Dennis Wilson, Warren Oates, and Laurie Bird.
This year I'm getting ahead of Valentine's Day and sending one out to the brokenhearted. Well, it's almost that dreadful time of year again. Like we don't already feel bad enough the rest of the time, Valentine's Day just seems like cruel punishment for the chronically lonely. You can't even go out [...]
Filed under: News , Exclusive , Music Appreciation Getty | Getty There are a number of ways musicians can also become great showmen. People like Madonna use costume changes, elaborate stages and a legion of dancers, a band like Gwar sprays fake blood and goo across the audience while fighting animatronic monster things, and Bruce Springsteen does it by playing actual songs [...]
Today we have two great Holiday vocal performances. First up is a beautiful Beach Boys song called Morning Christmas. From what I have been able to determine, this song was pretty mostly a solo effort by Dennis Wilson, the most overlooked of the three Wilson brothers that were the foundation for the Beach Boys. Let's listen....... Next up is On This Christmas Morning, a beautiful song as performed by the incredible Moody Blues. I think you will like it! My special gift to you today is Dennis Wilson's [...]

Hurray once more for the mighty Tompkins Square label, as the wise people in charge there just re-released Bill Wilson's fine fine Ever Changing Minstrel album, originally recorded in 1973 with the same bunch of pickers you hear on Dylan's Blonde On Blonde . In honour of that, here's a ten pack of boss tunes by guys called Wilson. Brian was off somewhere alas, but brother Dennis showed up instead. Better get ready! Bill Wilson - The Good Ship Society Dennis Wilson - Love Surround Me [...]
Filed under: News , Exclusive , Twisted Tales , Holy Hell , I Fought the Law , Politics as Usual AFP It's been a rough couple of weeks for the Jackson family , what with all of the twitter fights, public confrontations , contested will issues and maybe-kidnappings going on between Katherine, Paris, Janet and the rest of the crew. But we urge the Jackson [...]

Don't panic everybody. I'm back. I've got an inconsistently speedy internet connection, a pocket full of dreams and disco musix for the masses. Let's get some HD cat videos up in this mo'fucker! I've kind of forgotten how to blog so I'll stall for a bit. What's been happening with you cats? Working hard and drinking harder? Gosh, I sure can empathise with that one. No but seriously, let's get down to business. I'll start off with a couple of things that I wanted to put into that last Delishcast and, in the end, just couldn't quite [...]
A forthcoming film focusing on the last six years of Beach Boys drummer Dennis Wilson's life will include Oscar-nominated actress Vera Farmiga in the role of his love interest, Fleetwood Mac's Christine McVie. Their “passionate and tumultuous” six-year relationship, before Wilson’s passing in 1983, promises to be one of the more interesting moments in the movie, called The Drummer. Producers [...]
In 1966, in the wake of the critical acclaim from the masterpiece Pet Sounds , and coasting on the fame and fortune he’d earned for single-handedly competing with the entire nation of England for two whole years, Brian Wilson boasted to the press that the next Beach Boys album would be better still, grandiose beyond reckoning, as evolved from Pet Sounds as Pet Sounds had been from its predecessor, the goofy Beach Boys Party! album. Finally on November 1, 2011, we’ll be getting the official, Capitol Records, Mike-and-Al-sanctioned confirmation that he [...]

It's quite amazing to think that seminal prog-rock act Rush has sold over 40 million records worldwide, yet they continue to get shown the cold shoulder by the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame selection committee. The Canadian-based power trio , who recently went indie moving from Atlantic to Roadrunner Records, have announced that they will release three separate six-disc box sets, that focus on the Mercury Records years, which ran from their 1974 self-titled debut through 19882s Show of Hands , that they've dubbed Sector. Each set, which all will hit stores on November [...]

Back in 1977, Dennis Wilson released, Pacific Ocean Blue . To this day it's probably the best album from a solo Beach Boy . Frazzled by booze and drugs, Wilson's life was cut short on 28th December 1983, when he drowned at Marina Del Rey, Los Angeles, after drinking all day and diving in the afternoon to try and recover items he had thrown overboard from his yacht three years earlier. His life is a sad tale and it's one that [...]

Aaron Eckhart ( Erin Brockovich, Thank You For Smoking ) has officially signed on to portray Beach Boy Dennis Wilson in the upcoming biopic, The Drummer .
I am all about recycling, upcycling, composting… anything that reuses materials that are already on this earth. If a friend wants to use jeans for insulation or to make a quilt out of old clothes, I will be over in an instant! But recycling music? I was not keen on this idea until I heard [...]
The guys in the Allah-Las (one of my favorite new bands from L.A. who I'll be writing about at length shortly) just hipped me to this video for Dennis Wilson's "Lady" aka "Fallin' In Love" from 1970. According to Beach Boys lore the song was originally intended for use on the the album that became [...]

Say what you want about Earth Day but awareness and appreciation for the Earth's natural environment is pretty much a no-brainer. It's not about green corporate logos or throwing the wrapper for your Big Mac into the trashcan (instead of out your car window). It's about doing your part to keep this little blue ball we live on beautiful and thriving. We at MOR like oxygen, green leaves and clean water as much as the next guy so we've put together a playlist of songs appropriate for this special day. Break out your bicycle, put on the headphones [...]

tricia rosensohn [Club Pacific mix by Farmer Dave, Turquoise Wisdom and Chris Ziegler coming later today!] Farmer Dave is known and loved for his music, his collaborations (with everyone from Elvis Costello to dios malos) and his homemade Hot Nuts, which you can purchase anywhere people seriously know what's up.
