Dent May's new track "Holiday Face" is a welcome addition this season's Christmas Party play-list. This weekend I'm blasting this song in a snowflake sweater and Rudolph red now-&-later gators from Dent's hometown of Jackson, MS. It's good to see one of the white-modern-R&B crooners produce a song for the season, still waiting on the Hanukkah cut from Mayer Hawthorne. Dent May - Holiday Face

This has to be, by far, my favorite Christmas tune of the season. Unlike his usual repertoire for the Paw Tracks label, fixated with the use of one magnificent ukelele, Dent May's new, festive "Holiday Face" is exploding with radiant synth textures and robust electro pop flavor. New holiday classic from Mississippi's Dent May . Like Christmas' answer to Dent's perpetual summer jam " That Feeling ": mp3: Dent May :: Holiday Face __________ Dent's That Feeling / Eastover Wives 73 is still available here . mp3: Dent May :: That Feeling

Hailing from Mississippi comes a talented musician that goes by the name of Dent May. I have decided to do a little change here on LYFSTYL and start introducing my readers to more bands that are not over all the music blogs. Enjoy

It's great when musicians create their own world and sensibility, like a restaurant or store that you peer into that from the outside and makes you want to enter and be part of... There are a few assorted ingredients (in this case, touches of Costello, Jarves Cocker, Moz, Strangers With Candy) that this video feel familiar yet new in a completely Dent May way. Dent May is headed for [...]

--> Check out our list of top CMJ performances here <-- As Keepaway left the stage and The Rumble showcase at Webster Hall came to an end, I decided to take a trip down to Ludlow Street and see what CMJ had in store between all the venues on the Lower East Side. Cloud Nothings , 19-year old Dylan Baldi's prodigious endeavor, took the stage at 11pm at Cake Shop. After having seen this band open for Abe Vigoda back in March, I knew good things were in store. The [...]
Ahead of this December's ATP double-header curated by Godspeed You! Black Emperor (Nightmare Before Christmas) and Belle & Sebastian (Bowlie 2), details of the weekend bender taking place next May have just been spewed all over the far and wide reaches of t'internet. It's curators: Animal Collective . Quite unexpectedly, whilst entirely justifiably the ethereal dream pop of Merriweather Post Pavilion ought to be an apt aural heirloom to the plethora of avant-garde greats to have graced the carpeted bingo halls of Butlins, Minehead of recent times. Oh my goodness. Now that I've just gotten home from day 3 of CMJ, day 2 seems like ages ago. I can hardly remember what happened. Actually, there was some pretty good stuff, and you can check out my visual record of it over at Impose right here . I started the day off at Chocolate Bobka's CMJ party at Pianos. Family Portrait were, of course, my personal standouts. Those guys know how to build on a guitar riff, all the while giving off the impression that they're concocting something completely original with their guitars. San Francisco's Young Prisms [...]

I've been jamming to Dent May 's single from the Forest Family 73 for a while, but I really didn't know what this southern gentleman was all about until the other night. I also realized he has albums out on Animal Collective's very own Paw Tracks...I guess I don't follow industry news that closely...either way I need that on LP, like now. After a night of biking around the city I ended up at Glasslands on Tuesday to end the first night of CMJ. The Micro Pixel [...]

At least CMJ Thursday is pretty straight-forward during the day. It's the I Guess I'm Floating (one of my very favorite blogs) Pianos day party. It's pretty much wall-to-wall worthwhile bands including Baths, Beach Fossils, Oberhofer, Teen Daze, Young Man, Braids, and Gobble Gobble. The nighttime gets much more complicated. Of course, part of this is that by the third day of CMJ, whatever showcase you go to probably has at least one band you've already seen, and it's harder to skip around from showcase to showcase in NYC than it is in the nicely walkable Austin, Texas. [...]

1AM and I just stepped in for the first time since 10AM this morning. These festival thingys are pretty exhausting. Luckily for most everyone, tomorrow has a lot of good shows, but only a few real standouts. I definitely recommend picking somewhere and staying put, at least as the nighttime is concerned. If you're lucky enough to be able to go to shows during the day, you've got to split your time between Pianos and Cake Shop. At Cake Shop, you get Prince Rama, Baths, and Marnie Stern (!?), and at Pianos you've got Dent May, Pure Ecstasy, Family Portrait, [...]
5. Will Stratton (@Spike Hill, 2pm); Last year Will Stratton wowed us with a single acoustic performance in Prospect Park. From there he continued to amaze us with his songwriting talents at our own CMJ showcase in October and with his remarkable second studio album No Wonder. Now he'll take his talents to Brooklyn where... Read More
