My first experience with Dent May was his goofy bluegrass-tinged "You Can't Force A Dance Party" from his debut full-length The Good Feeling Music of Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele. I fell in love with the melodic awkwardness of it all, and wondered what musical steps he would take after such an interesting introduction. [...]

Prins Thomas always knows how to make a great track sound even better. in uscita il 12 Giugno su Paw Tracks l’album Do Things di Dent May - questo primo singolo che lo anticipa, Best Friend , fa davvero pensare a un disco che possa facilmente diventare la perfetta colonna sonora della prossima estate.
He may be from Mississippi, but Dent May doesn’t sound country at all. Though he may croon into the mic at times on “Best Friend,” he comes off as generally funky, harmonic and electronic. While “disco” may not be the right word, “Best Friend” does evoke some feelings of that bygone era, in what can [...]

This mixtape, of course, is a little somethingsomething to hold you over until his sophomore album Do Things drops on June 12th via Paw Tracks. If you haven't heard the album's first single "Best Friend" yet, hit up that as well. For now, grab a listen [...]

Not that we had a winter this year on the East Coast, but Spring is in full bloom here in Brooklyn. Post-bloom actually, which is a good thing for you allergy sufferers. And so thaws my blog which has been on deep freeze since February. So here we are with this year's Spring Fever mix and I think it turned out pretty good! Lots of great new sounds, covering a lot of sonic territory (well, within a certain pale milieu, let's face it). Anyway, here you go, do enjoy. DOWNLOAD SPRING FEVER 2012 [...]

It's a holiday celebrated by few, but those few treat it like Christmas morning. In fact, some might consider it better than Christmas morning: Record Store Day. Since its inception in 2007, countless vinyl enthusiasts have woken up - on Saturday morning, no less - to patrol the streets in their pajamas, eventually taking up real estate outside their favorite record store, all in the hopes that they'll snag priceless soon-to-be artifacts that, more or less, give them bragging rights. It's relentless, it's addicting, but it's pastime. Consequence of Sound looks forward to [...]

I worship at the church of karaoke. The parishoners and I are there to confess and meditate, to feel welcomed by a community, to hear a good sermon or two, to perchance see someone speak in tongues and have the words of the Lord Bon Jovi be channeled through a mere mortal. And, of course, to have some drinks and venture to make complete fools out of ourselves. Karaoke exists in a vacuum of taste, where anomalies and exceptions always seem to arise and mess with my preconceptions. Maybe, like me, this is the only time you can really tolerate a Billy [...]

Dent May - Best Friend It’s hard to get over how good this song sounds to me today. I dunno if it’s the Spring-time-needing-Summer feeling I have today or what but this breezy 70s-pop song hits me so right. New album drops June 12th, 2012 out on Paw Tracks.

Summer is right around the corner and for those who can't wait, Dent May bottled up some of the sunshine and poured it all over his new single, "Best Friend", which will appear on his next LP, Do Things . Dent May continues his talent of mixing catchy hooks with thoughtful moments defined by calming vocals. While Dent May is still the star of the song, the bass on this track thumps all the way from start to finish and acts as the backbone for this wonderful song.
Here's another massive compilation, featuring 21 tracks that made March one of the best months for new artists I've seen this year. There's a bunch of great stuff here from a wide array of bands, featuring unsigned groups with a very bright future (The Twees, Que? Zoo and Dr Skull, Rural Ghosts), those just about
It's Friday, and we're back with another installment of our regular roundup of downloadable MP3 goodness, both from around the web and from our own servers. This week there's a new track from our favorite synthpop academic, John Maus, along with chartbusters from Azealia Banks and Nicki Minaj, dark weirdness from Zambri and Lorn, a smattering of old-school punk, and a challenging, oblique lyrical masterpiece from Best Coast. In other words, there's plenty of interesting sounds awaiting you after the jump, and since they won't cost a penny or land you an RIAA lawsuit, as your attorneys we advise you to start [...]

Oxford, Mississippi’s Dent May has cast off his magnificent ukelele in favor of some still-magnificent dreamiest-of-dream-pop guitar riffs and harmonic vocals – but we’re chill, because "Best Friend," the first single from May’s upcoming record Do Things is such a prime slice of what we can only term “chillwave with guitars” that it out-Real Estates Real Estate . Title-appropriately, this song sounds like spinning in slow motion in a field full of wildflowers, clasping the hands of someone you love (aww), and even a cursory listen will convince you that we’re not [...]

Check out a new Dent May track called “Best Friends”. A hazy 70’s throwback, that would be perfect to slide to with all your close ones. (Or do exactly what is happening on the cover art) He has certainly come a long way from his weirdo acoustic beginnings. The new record, Do Things , will be out on June 12th through Paw Tracks .

Last month we frothed and foamed over the return of Animal Collective's ukulele-toting, prim and overtly proper bud Dent May . That was Fun and rather aptly, this lead single off of forthcoming Paw Tracks release Do Things (expected June 11th), goes by the amicable designation of Best Friend. It sees May continue to pair his gawky croon off with glimmering disco leanings, grinding up against post-Beegees comparisons in a manner as seductive as feasible given such a compromising scenario. Lyrically it's sweeter still as May avows: "You and me is never gonna end/ Because you're my [...]
"Best Friend" is an outstanding disco-tinged new track from Mississippi-based Dent May, off his new album, Do Things, out June 12th on Paw Tracks. Formerly known for ukulele-led material, May traded it in for some vintage synths and a drum machine
