Forgive us for the lack of postings this morning. Most of us here at Consequence of Sound are running on only couple hours of sleep thanks to those midnight showings. But then again, can you blame us? As we pound the tea and fight off our desires to run out and go see The Dark Knight again, well that is, until later this evening, we figured we'd leave you with another edition of the Friday Mixtape. Enjoy and always make sure you let us know which songs tickle your fancy... [...]

Surprise surprise, even more Brian Wilson/Beach Boys-related love (Mike Love?) from us today. What were you expecting? It's mid-summer and the man himself played Coney Island last night so this one's a no-brainer really. This mix is comprised of a bunch of songs that are either clearly inspired by the Beach Boys OR which we completely subjectively feel could be Beach Boys songs. There's also an oh-so slight chronological flow to the list as well, starting with songs that (to us) hearken back more to their earlier material and progressing a bit towards when [...]
I think most would credit Ed Droste with the recent success of current Death + Taxes coverboys Grizzly Bear. It was he, after all, who recorded GB's heralded debut Horn of Plenty nearly by himself, but it was the addition of local songwriter Daniel Rossen in 2005 that propelled them to greatness. Need proof? Tear yourself away from Yellow House and take a listen to his side-project duo Department of Eagles . "In Ear Park", the first song released off the upcoming album of the same title, [...]

...have announced an album, finally, and I bet you any money it's brilliant. Just listen to this: Department of Eagles - In Ear Park There are more details here . I'm pretty darn excited about this one, to the extent that I don't feel like saying anything remotely poetic until I've listened to the whole thing, repeatedly. Sigh. Roll on October 7th.

The Good: Flying Lotus (feat. Lil' Wayne) - "Robo Tussin"; Another week, another track featuring Lil' Wayne! Will it ever cease? I hope not. This time around Flying Lotus is proving his production skills mixing Wayne's "A Milli" with some freaked out sounds and making it all work together. This is like listening to it in space or some shit. I like it! Grade: B Beat Radio - "Stranger Flowers";
Every week, we dig in the archives for videos that we find noteworthy, memorable, or just unbelievably stupid. And then, Jon McMillan breaks 'em down for you. Why Video Hangover? Because when you watch as many videos as we do, you're going to feel it afterwards. "Call On Me" Eric Prydz, 2004 NSFWorkout.
Technically this is "Grizzly Bear" Dan and not "Department of Eagles" Dan, but whatever Thanks to every website I read for pointing me to this new Department of Eagles track. DoE is Dan Rossen of Grizzly Bear and Fred Nicolaus making some songs of their own. So many of them, in fact, that they decided to [...]

Department of Eagles , Daniel Rossen of Grizzly Bear alongside his friend Fred Nicolaus, have signed to 4AD across the World! They will be releasing a new album on Monday 6th October, called In Ear Park , which features the additional help of two other members of Grizzly Bear, Chris Bear and Chris Taylor (the album was recorded in Brooklyn, NY by Chris Taylor). The title track, 'In Ear Park', is available to listen to by clicking here . In Ear Park : 1. In [...]
4AD's roster just got a little bigger. The label has signed Department of Eagles, which features Grizzly Bear's Daniel Rossen, Chris Taylor and Chris Bear, along with Fred Nicolaus. The group's label debut, In Ear Park , will be released on October 7. After Daniel and Fred met at NYU in 2000, the duo started to mess around with samples and turned them into songs using computers borrowed by Chris. Small world, eh? While we wait for the LP to come out, waste some time by picking up a download, and then peep the [...]

Oh how everything comes full circle...our very FIRST EF Band of the Week Department of Eagles announced the exciting news yesterday that their sophomore full-length, In Ear Park , will come out on Beggars Banquet/4AD this October 7th. Do you see the synchronicity? The collusion of fellow EARS? No? Well, can we at least claim dibs when we reported back in November that some sort of Grizzly Bear/DoE shenanigans was in store? Back then, Daniel told us : ""A record will will be done in the next few months I [...]

Department of Eagles the other band of Grizzly Bear's Daniel Rossen, has quietly over the last four years been working on their new album entitled "In Ear Park". The album features collaborations with every member of Grizzly Bear besides Ed Droste. The release date planned for the album is on October 7. The tracklisting for the album is below. In Ear Park Tracklisting : 01. In Ear Park 02. No One Does It 03. Phantom Other 04. Teenagers 05. Around the Bay 06. Herring Bone 07. Classical Records 08. Waves of Rye [...]

photo by Amelia Bauer The new Department Of Eagles (featuring Daniel Rossen of Grizzly Bear and Fred Nicolaus) song is as ghostly and as haunting and as odd and as oddly unique as I expected. The new album is due on October 8th. But look for OBS ("over-eager blogging syndrome") to kick in as leaks will be abundant. Buy the record anyway when it comes out on 4AD. In Ear Park - Department Of Eagles

Whether he's working his day job , unironically covering teen pop songs , or helming his amazing "side project" (which is really so much more than that), Daniel Rossen can apparently do no wrong. For instance, there's this, the title track from Department of Eagles ' upcoming LP, In Ear Park . According to Mr. Rossen, many of the songs on the new album "felt way too personal to bring to Grizzly Bear -- there's a lot of childhood nostalgia and an emphasis on [...]
We heard from Brooklyn duo Department of Eagles a little over a year ago , but now they've done signed themselves a new record deal, and the follow-up to their 2003 debut The Cold Nose finally has a name and release date: In Ear Park will hit the streets October 8 on 4AD. In case you've forgotten, the Department is a collaboration between Grizzly Bear 's Daniel Rossen and Fred Nicolaus; for their second album two other Grizzlies, Chris Bear [...]

Ladies and gentlemen, you're in luck. We've just run across an entertaining, potentially rather accurate, post over on Holy Taco that details The 8 Places You Probably Lost Your Virginity . It offers pictures (such as the illustration above) and a his / her side of the story for each probable location. Here's an excerpt from place #5, the Backseat of a Car: HOW IT WENT DOWN FROM HER PERSPECTIVE - You held back the urge to vomit due to his entire weight pushing [...]

Dang, this here Dan and Fred a/k/a Department Of Eagles track is getting me excited for a new Grizzly Bear album. Listen to some moody folksy goodness: "Deadly Disclosure" (mp3) So did this . Maybe they'll get around to after that tour with that band from Abingdon ? Myspace page is here . Melodic is here . Take Away shows here and here . Old GT post here . Emusic page is here . [...]
Prefuse 73 - Class Of 73 Bells Department Of Eagles - The Horse You Ride Daedelus - Samba Legrand Kinski - Boy Was I Mad Castanets - And The Swimming

It's that time of year again, when you're probably already feeling a little ill, having gorged on the myriad best-ofs of the various music blogs you frequent - well tough, I'm posting mine. Was this year better than last year? I say yes. I certainly listened to more albums this year than last year, when it seemed to be mostly songs. There were a few disappointments in 2007, but many great new discoveries, most of which have made it here. It bears mentioning that my favourite song of this year is without doubt better than last year's. Anyway, the rules! [...]
