I simply loved the 2008 " In Ear Park " by the smashing indie duo Department of Eagles , individually formed by Grizzly Bear's Daniel Rossen and Fred Nicolaus. At times the album feels likes a religious experience, one where the surreal meets life and blends into one unique crossroad. The whole thing was extremely polished, from composition, to arrangements, to production - a perfectionist's soundtrack, if you will. As such, a lot of tracks have been scrapped. Today, it has come to my attention that American Dust will be releasing a new Department of Eagles record, [...]

If you've worn out Department of Eagles ' last album, 2008's In Ear Park , and you've already absorbed the rest of the duo's discography, you'll probably greet Archive 2003-2006 like manna from heaven. Collecting tracks that fell by the wayside at various points in the band's evolution, this disc fills in the gaps to illuminate the way Department of Eagles developed over the years. So what sort of undiscovered gems can be expected from this archival anthology? Well, for starters, you can anticipate some tracks from what the DoE refers to as the [...]
It isn't very often that we see a band release its older privatized recordings to the masses. A release like this is usually spurred by a notable event like a band break up or even a group reuniting. It's especially rare when this happens to a band whose success is in full stride, but whatever the reason for the upcoming Department of Eagles album, Archive 2003-2006, they don't need to explain themselves. This collection is sure to provide an even closer look at the already intimate recordings by DoE. Following their 2003 debut LP, [...]

94. Tapes 'n Tapes - Insistor Ohne Ahnung - einfach hart, und gut so. 93. Bikini Atoll - Desolation Highway The start is here is homely and simple, like watching someone paint a landscape, a nice way of filling up a great empty weekend. It grows from this into something unexpected, simultaneously like a friendship that blooms out of nothing, and the way you head out [...]
Louisville native Saredren Wells brings us a new collection of conversational, avant-garde folk songs on his forthcoming album, Memories are Hunting Horns. Each track is crafted with eerie polychord structures and unique time signatures, and accompanied by various string and horn sections - acting as how Crash Avenue puts it, “a Midwestern response to Bon [...]
Despite being the shortest month in the year, February sure made room for a lot of album releases. I'm not gonna lie, I wish I had the time and eloquence to cover them all, but a suffocating workload makes that sort of thing difficult-no matter how much I'd enjoy doing it. Not only am I distracted, but it takes a lot for me to even begin to unwind and give any artist my undivided attention. That's the beauty of it all, though I guess. That moment where I am able to really just become obsessed with an album and speak [...]

You readers are fucking awesome. And you want to know why? Cause when I listened to "I WIsh I Was Him", all I heard was KATHLEEN. And then I went right back to listening to my crappy k-pop and cried myself to sleep. I guess my mind does not function that way. I can't really multi-task, as much as I try to. Anywho... I love a good cover. Who doesn't? Sometimes they're straightforward and other times, bands turn these songs into something so unimaginable, it hurts to even think about. Being in a band, I've had MANY a [...]

It hasn't been a great year for me, watching video-wise. I use quite a bit of bandwidth but at the same time I had to make a switch to a cheaper high-speed internet company and it makes watching music video much much more of a tedious venture. I couldn't do the desired amount of research that I would've liked so why write one? Well because I can . Also because lists are fun and this is more of a personal choice with videos and the videos also happen to double as songs I like. I'd see no reason [...]

So what. It's college basketball season. Maybe I'll leave the couch when the UConn women win by less than 25. In the meantime, here's a song from Department of Eagles . "Phantom Other" is a killer song, written and sung by Grizzly Bear's guitarist Daniel Rossen. If you can, listen to it with some big ole headphones - this song sounds amazing. Department of Eagles - Phantom Other Amazon / iTunes -Chris

Before reading on, amuse your ear caves with 20 seconds of this little ditty. Can you recognize the band before any vocals come into play? Mysterious mp3 Is it Volcano Choir ? Department of Eagles , maybe? Neon Indian ?!?!? The man behind those eeps, bleeps and drones is none other than french horn-toting, silk milk crooning Europhile Beirut [...]

So, after a lot of procrastination and seeing a LOT of other lists, I finally took up the courage to start sharing my list with you guys. It's always a lot of work, but in the end very fulfilling. First start with my young talents list. Last year, I predicted a bright future for Mumford and Sons, and I turned out to be a visionary man (The year before Bon Iver was my number 1). I must admit that I'm not that sure about this year's artists or this year's number one. there aren't any artists that will [...]
Here listed before you are the absolute 25 finest music videos of 2009. I've watched dozens upon dozens of videos this year, and trust me, these are the best. All the videos are embedded below for easy viewability. Click on the song title for a link to the highest quality video. The videos listed here are the ones that I found to be the most visually interesting, uniquely executed, and superbly edited. Having a good song attached to it doesn't hurt it's chances either. Photography by Herky It's Friday but it's a gloomy, cloudy, and busy one, meaning the sooner we get this day done and start our weekend, the better! Personally, I can't think of a better way to finish off this week than with the shot of throat burnin' bourbon in an old motel that is Whodat Peckerhead's, from our Facebook community , new mixtape ! YAY! It's a wonderful [...]
