Det är så gott som ett halvår sedan Deportees släppte skivan Islands & Shores, men det kommer fortfarande remixer på titelspåret. Men hur gammal den är känns rätt så irrelevant när Adventure Of med sin remix gör den till något helt annat. Mysig kallade jag den första gången jag lyssnade på den, och den konstiga beskrivningen sitter kvar. Remixen görs med någon 3/4-takt, och i ärlighetens namn har jag inte världens koll på det där med olika takter, men även ett otränat öra hör att det är annorlunda. Och bra. Lyssna!
I dag släppte Popaganda äntligen de första bokningarna till årets festival. Inte helt oväntat finns det en hel del svenska bokningar med i dagens släpp. Som ni säkert såg i rubriken så handlar det om Deportees, Little Dragen och Love Antell, men vi får inte missa att även Vulkano med flertalet medlemmar från Those Dancing Days också är klara. Swedish pop princess Lykke Li took to her Twitter page this week to share her collaboration with fellow Swedes, The Deportees. The steel drums and ghostly vocals with a yearning quality that nobody does quite like Ms. Li are pretty hard to resist, like an apocalyptic beach party you stumble your way through. It should help tide fans over until the Wounded Rhymes singer has new material in the works, and damn do Swedish people know how to craft a pop song.
It's not exactly the Midas touch, but everything Lykke Li puts her hands on these days seems to be transformed into something sonically endearing, imbued with her signature seductive playfulness. The Deportees track, "A New Name To Go By," is utterly fun, but also exhibits restraint, holding back from being an unadulterated and ecstatic jam that wouldn't hold quite as much weight. Sometime last week Lykke Li tweeted a link to a collaboration with fellow Swedish band Deportees. The song, "A New Name to Go By," is kinda like Fleet Foxes meets Jamaica, and if that doesn't peek your interest then nothing will. Give it a listen below.
The Music Ninja is so unbelievably dead-on with their description of this song that I must repeat it. Nothing else works. "This collaboration, featured on the latest Deportees album Islands & Shores, sounds like the result of three Swedes meeting up for a game of beach volleyball." HOLY HELL. How accurate is that??? From here on out whenever I see any Swedes on the beach I'm just going to assume that they're getting ready to start a game of beach volleyball with this as the continuous soundtrack. The Swede musicians sure do love each other. Lykke Li hooks up with fellow countrymen Deportees on a track called, "A New Name To Go By". Over some very melodic steel-drums, Lykke caresses us with a down-tempo tune, that is quite lovely. Really enjoying the whole sunny African vibe that is present on here.
