Veteran Detroit electronic music journalist Dan Sicko passed away on Sunday after a lengthy battle with ocular melanoma, a rare form of eye cancer. He was 42. In the pre-Internet '80s and '90s where techno was relegated to the underground, Sicko helped document the burgeoning Motor City scene led by Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson and Juan Atkins. Last we heard from Detroit techno icon Kevin Saunderson he was a wee bit angry at Italian duo Supernova for sampling his track "The Sound." Fortunately things were amicably resolved — doesn't everyone like a happy ending? — and Saunderson has carried on. Being the founder of a genre has to be an incredible feeling.
