Across ten [...]
Doklands loves Desert Island Dicks . They've got the freshest, naughtiest take on plunderphonic music for a very long time. When they decided to tackle Love Will Tear Us apart, they discovered that over 100 people had already beat them to it. Undaunted, they used this to their advantage. They made two versions. One of those by playing all 103 tracks simultaneously, and one by chopping them up into consecutive fragments. Here's the marginally more listenable Consecutive Mix. You would not believe how many bad cover versions there are out [...]

The latest Glitch Village compilation, third in noisy netlabel Glitch City's on-going series, was released at Christmas the other day. Here's a brief run-through. It starts off with Mickey Roberts ' guitar-storm "blfif", all necks and fretboards contorting in angles you didn't think possible. "Donnie Dakro" (sic) by Wandering Bear is an early highlight, overlaying a crunchy breakbeat with detached vocal snatches, string sections, oversped loops and welcome melody. (Along with the chiptune, it's probably about [...]

The second in a series of six episodes of my old radio show Fisting for Compliments , and indeed the second time we transmitted to a large part of the Glasgow area on a real-life FM frequency. Of note during this episode : more weird preamble from "Family Affair"'s odd competition feature; our improv cover of "Hey Joe"; a clean version of "Fuck the Border" by Propagandhi which, on reflection, kind of removes the point a little; the radio [...]

If you're one of the many who have found legitimate reasons to despise Feb. 14th , the noise miscreants in Desert Island Dicks have released a Valentine's Day single that might pique your interest. Nothing the Dicks do ever seems to be straightforward, so it was a fairly safe bet they weren't going to buy into the standard hearts-and-flowers template, and here they don't disappoint. De facto Dicks spokesman #12 (none of the others are ever [...]

The new Desert Island Dicks album, released by Amoebic Industries (Unlimited) on 28 July 2009, is entitled The Shades of Jazz to Come , a dextrous play on the name of Ornette Coleman 's seminal free jazz masterpiece The Shape of Jazz to Come . The Coleman association is not merely a titular one; the album is also based sonically on The Shape of Jazz to Come . Six slices of the original Coleman album, [...]

A track composed by the Desert Island Dicks in memory of their late friend Ingus Lovecharts (“Wingus”), taken from this world in the year of our Lord 2009, upon the day of April 20th, a Monday, for reasons still never disclosed. Recquiescat in pace, cāre homō sonitūs. " Blues for Wingus "
This must be the week when all the music gets played at the wrong speed here on Doklands. I've just found out about a group called Desert Island Dicks. Who they are I have no idea; they haven't made it off last.fm as of yet. Anyway, that's not important. What is important is that they have taken three Miles Davis albums ( Bitches Brew , Kind of Blue and Sketches of Spain ) and speeded up each track so that it lasts exactly 90 seconds. It's called Bring Me [...]
