This is country blues thrown at Black Sabbath then kicked over to good ‘ol Hank Williams territory. Sprinkle on a little southern goodness, and serve warm with a glass of ice tea: Across Tundras. - By Ryan Stephenson
Young Galaxy does a bang-up job channelling The Horrors on their remix of Rachel Zeffira (who conveniently happens to be linked to The Horrors' Faris Badwan) and her excellent The Deserters track "Break The Spell." Ramsay + co. fill the space with a similar sort of churning/sprawling psych, hiding tight loops inside of others, and stacking them until the whole thing begins to resemble the krautrock version of a Matryoshka doll. Zeffira's Break The Spell single is out now on Paper [...]
Alas, we're still awaiting enlightenment as to what collaborations between Josh Homme's ineffably badass desert-rock bruisers Queens of the Stone Age and the likes of Elton John and Jake Shears might sound like, although by 'eck did Brussels get it lucky this week as the distortion junkies swung by radio station StuBru to air a couple newbies from forthcoming sixth studio full-length ...Like Clockwork , along with a customary acoustic take on No One Knows. Up first, we've I Sat By The Ocean – a languid, roily work redolent of both Coffee and TV and Little Sister, and indeed [...]

Oh Coachella the stuff of myth and whimsy...breaking ground, artists and all that jazz. Maybe you've read a Coachella recap or two already... but I'm sorry... I've been recovering. After sitting a few years out, I flew deliriously into the desert full of myth and whimsy after a late night of DJing in New York. After soaking up a bit of sun and putting back a few beers, I was feeling the vibes and off to the festival I went. First stop was for my personal Jesus of DJing, DJ Harvey... Spent [...]
Rachel Zeffira—a classically trained, Italian-Canadian singer whose career took an unexpected, distinctly non-opera turn last year when she joined forces with Faris Badwan of The Horrors to become the ’60s-throwback group Cat's Eyes—now makes her ... read more

Rachel Zeffira: The Deserters – Rachel Zeffira is an enigma. She can play more instruments than you can name and she is an accomplished opera singer. She has talent oozing from her pores, and her first solo album, The Deserters , pays homage to her genius. We were lucky enough to be able to chat with her for a bit, and her humbleness only makes her more endearing. It becomes clear how hard she worked on this album, and poured every part of herself into it, and that can not be ignored. This album [...]

With Rachel Zeffira 's debut solo album The Deserters , the Canadian-born, London-based musician wants to make her presence known in the world of baroque pop. And it shouldn’t be that hard. Zeffira is an immensely talented multi-instrumentalist, with conservatory training in everything from violin to cathedral organ. The Deserters is a whirlwind of a debut album, and quite the departure from her previous work with Cat’s Eyes , a duo project with UK distortion wizard Faris Badwan. The Deserters , which Zeffira self-produced and recorded [...]

Influenciados por música de generaciones tan distintas como la de Tom Petty o de Tame Impala, la banda formada por Kyle Henderson, Tyler Osmond, Pat Boyer y Brennan Allen, logra acercarse por momentos [...]

Meet the southern grasshopper mouse, a 4-inch, .78-ounce monster that stalks the deserts of Mexico and the American Southwest. The only carnivorous mouse in North America, the grasshopper mouse dines on everything from other rodents to tarantulas to the Arizona bark scorpion , one of the most poisonous scorpions in the world. Where humans suffer muscle contractions and respiratory failure after a bark scorpion sting, the grasshopper mouse ignores the bite, and breaks the scorpion's tail "by pummelling it into the ground, then bites its head and feasts on its flesh," says Live Science [...]

Covers. Cover songs, that is. I've talked about them before . Right. So I won't go on and on over the bits I've mentioned then. Hopefully I don't repeat myself very often. Here's something new. I think. I am big Shazamer. Wherever I am: car, shops, grocery...if I hear an unknown song and have my trusty iPhone, it's happening. What a miracle, that Shazam. At any rate, post-identification, when I'm back in my bunker, an internet search follows. I want to hear the song again and anything else by said artist. This, of course, gets me sucked [...]

Desert - Desert Feeling really high about this new Barcelona duo Cristina Checa and Eloi Caballé. She was (is still?) the lead vocalist from another excellent Spanish dreampop band Granit , and he the producer. Heavenly soundz, and wow that album art! This is their second single, the b-side b/w “ Camins ” that’s out now on 7” vinyl from Madrid label Glitterend Records . Pre-order now.

By Hayley Scott December 28, 2012 With a whimsical voice like no other and the ghostly cadence of this beautifully crafted record, one is left wondering why any of Rachel Zeffira 's projects have not been constantly refashioned like an over animated Adele cover. Released independently via RAF records - her new record label founded with her sometime collaborator Faris Badwan of The Horrors , The Deserters is the debut solo album from the raw talent that is Rachel Zeffira. The [...]
