![Desmond Reed: The Window Shopping EP [Album Review]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1608787_lg.jpg)
Desmond Reed is a mystery. The clues are few. It's a he, he resides in Massachusetts, and he shares his name with a USC Trojan football player. So I guess it's a little surprising that his music is not a mystery. The messages are clear and honest and simple and, at times, a little strange. At least that's what can be gathered off his three-song, three-inch CD-R out now on Susy Records, The Window Shopping EP . Reed's music is harmonic and acoustic, filled with simple [...]

Before the weekend, I received two tiny 33 cd-eps from the lovely Peruvian indie-pop label Susy Records . All their cds are made one by one in a small bedroom, and the designs and covers are all handmade. Really nice stuff! Desmond Reed is the man behind the first of these EPs, with his "The Window Shopping EP". His jangly acoustic pop songs work very good in this format, and for me at least 2 of the 3 songs will be [...]

I realize now that Desmond Reed was only getting started when he released the Guinea Pigs EP a few months ago. His newest release on cass_et_tape_records, The Baby-Sitters Club EP still features just Desmond and a guitar, but the hooks have never been so sweet and the lyrics so genuine. The first song "The Baby-Sitters Club" finds Desmond more thankful professing his love for this new circle of friends, even calling them on the phone because he has too much homework! "When I Met Michelle" is perfect. I feel like I could have written a song [...]

Today is a great day for good Christmas songs from 2007! I am very happy to present a new and really cool Christmas song from Her Space Holiday /XOXO Panda. Marc Bianchi has made a wonderful and clever cover-version of "Let it Snow" + added a few of his own ideas inside. The song really made me smile when I first heard it, and I think it's the best 2007-christmas song I've heard so far. Her Space Holiday - Let it Snow [...]

A brand new one for you today from former Bag Of Songs Artist of the Day Desmond Reed . Desmond has a knack for super catchy pop songs and this one is no exception. Desmond also has a new EP out today entitled The Summer Vacation EP on Anorak Records and an upcoming show on December 28th at North Brookfield VFW, 231 North Main Street, North Brookfield, MA. Check his myspace for more songs and info on a few other singles he's released this year. [...]

Since I discovered Wee Pop! Records I've been doing my best to try and snatch up all their releases. Desmond Reed is a musician from Orange, Massachusetts and the Guinea Pigs EP is a small slice of his smart brand of lo-fi four-track pop. There are only three tracks on this EP and like other Wee Pop! albums this demands and requires repeated listens. The obvious center point to this EP is the first song "Guinea Pigs" which had me giggling over how silly and cute it sounds (The album cover also adds to the humorous effect). [...]

Bag Of Songs turns one this week. Wow, has it been a whole year already ? Thanks for coming along for the ride, hopefully you heard something you liked, or made you laugh, or at least surprised you in some way. A very special thanks to all the artists who have been featured here and to all of the great friends I have made along the way that make it matter. Lot's more goodies still to come , stay tuned. Here's a mixed dozen of the amazing independent artists that have been featured here [...]

When we last saw Desmond Reed a few months ago, he was a man in a bedroom. He's still a man in a bedroom, but now he also has a just-released EP on WeePOP! Records. It's no surprise that good things are coming his way, because his recent output continues to be remarkably good. Much of it's happily on pace with his most beloved song, "Guinea Pigs." In the case of one track, "Window Shopping," it may be even better. His signature style, lo-fi indoor-pop that makes ordinary, mundane life sound magical, is still firmly in [...]

If this list reads a little random and scattershot, that's because it is. More than ever, I haven't been able to commit to one genre or one style, picking and choosing playlists based on the whims of a moment. One key '07 development is that I've been getting more excited about electronic and dance music again, after a long wane in interest. But other than that, it's some indie rock, some hip hop, a little instrumental, and a bunch of miscellania. Going along with that, it seems that sounds are coming at me from more sources than ever too, including [...]

For today I'd thought I'd bring you an update on what some of our former Artists Of The Day have been up to. They're all amazing talents that will be much more famous than just a mention on my blog someday. Remember, so you can proudly say "I knew them way back when..." First up, Bless 1 . One of Chicago's finest hip hop producer/artists, Bless 1 has teamed up with producers from around the world as The Digital Invaders [...]

So it seems kinda bizarre and surreal to think I've been working on this project for a year already. One random Thursday in California 365 afternoons ago, I'd had the idea to typing up the contents of a mixtape I'd just compiled and blasting it into cyberspace. What began as a goof, a high-tech storehouse for whatever trivia happened to be pinballing through my brain, quickly evolved into a genuine passion. Tossed-off entries soon stretched into five- or six-hour writing sessions. Newly beholden to something, I'd leave parties early to toil over posts or curtail nights out to [...]

Sometimes all my slick dance moves seem insufficient for really marvelous occasions. At times like those, now I have a special friend on the Internet to show me new grooves to woo the crowd. Watch out, here he comes . I was so enamored with his gyrations that I missed reading the descriptions of each dance the first time around; make sure you look in the text box as you click through for gems like: " Perfect for when you are chosen for the raised cage area in a popular club or on a TV [...]

A few weeks ago, I received a MySpace message that I almost dismissed. It seemed too simple, a three-line note that basically said, "Here are some MP3s. It'd be neat if you listened to them." There was none of the usual mention of other blogs the singer had appeared on, a record label I'd never heard of that he was signed to, or any long, oblique, unfounded comparison between him and some legendary artist. It was just a dashed-off postscript really, so I figured that the music would probably be pretty dashed-off too. But when I pressed on to hear [...]

George Pringle is a vaguely posh sounding girl who talks over repetitive electronic beats. This is the kind of thing that falls right into the "love it or hate it" category. Rationally, I should hate this myself. A few recent digressions aside, I'm not big on the electronic, and the idea of someone just talking on every song doesn't appeal very much. Somehow though, it works. The songs tend to come across more as poems than musical works, but it doesn't matter. These are small slices of modern life, whether it be about [...]
