Here's a taste of what I'm probably listening to right now... Desolation Wilderness - Venice Beach Real Estate - Suburban Beverage Beach Fossils - Calyer Holiday Shores - Phones Don't Feud ...back next week!

Desolation Wilderness - Moon Dreams I was listening to this album again on the train back from NYC Saturday and I had forgotten how good it is! Super bummed they called it quits. Their album New Universe is just awesome if you’re into a cloud-floating-large-hazy sound. It’s one of those albums I love to listen to and will always wish I had on vinyl.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars Usually when the name of a band involves something with the word in electric, its usually a signal that there's going to be far too much electronic flourishes in it, which goes against my new personal disdain for laptop accompanied bands. But, knowing that Electric Sunset was once part of Desolation Wilderness made it easy to get into the self-titled record, as I enjoyed Nic Zwart's other band, prior to his departure. So why not give the guy a good honest [...]
Back in February, K Recording artist Desolation Wilderness decided to call it quits when lead singer Nic Zwart went and moved to San Francisco and started a new band. Out of the ashes must come something and Zwart's new project, Electric Sunset, is something to behold. Signed to K Records (surprise, surprise) the band are... Read More

From the ashes of Desolation Wilderness rises Nick Zwart's new solo recording project Electric Sunset , who's debut self titled album is set to be released on K Records on September 7th. While it's obvious from the first single, "Soda," that Electric Sunset is farther than a stones throw from Desolation Wilderness, but once you look a little bit deeper I start to see aspects of that shoegaze band that I've pined over for the past couple years. "Soda" is an ambient pop jam that [...]

Fresh out of the ashes of Desolation Wilderness comes a new project from Nic Zwart titled Electric Sunset . The first single from his upcoming self-titled album, which comes out September 7th on K Records . He's blending electronic moments with extreme pop, all which lead to blissful moments for the listener. His record is a sort of journal of sorts, so we're all sure to find some lyric we can relate to on some level. You'll want to be sure to get [...]

Last year I did a list of twenty five albums, and I began to think that the rank ordering no longer meant anything once I hit a certain number. This year I thought I was going to do a top ten with a not so short list of other albums, but then I decided that would be the same thing as a top twenty five. I feel like I settled in the middle. I was able to narrow 2009 down to fifteen albums, and no short list. These are my favorites. If you haven't heard [...]

“do you know france? it’s where i come from but i avoid it. there’s this short guy, he’s dating a model and he’s in charge. and i just wanna take chainsaw and cut his head right off and put it right up his [...]
AON's Bite Sized series features exclusive performances and clips of live sets shot at Comet Ping Pong. Last year in my year end round up of my favorite singles I wrote how the 7 inch single seemed to be coming back into favor. This year it went over the top. There seemed to be labels popping out of the woodwork who's main mission was to gather up the best songs and put them out on vinyl. To reflect the bumper crop of singles I've expanded the year end singles count down to 40. Like Casey Kasem use to do, we're gonna count them down. I don't think we'll be doing any long [...]

Yeah, we've already had one list this year but we figured we'd tone things down a bit this time. Rather then tackle an entire decade we've listed the albums that spent the most time in our headphones this year. Once again, this list was a collective effort (our personal favorite tracks are coming up) but we feel like it's a proper representation of "who we are". Aside from our own insight, we've gathered the thoughts of Sawyer Carter Jacobs (Underwater Peoples/Family Portrait), Edwin (Tonstartssbandht), Nicole (Eternal Summers), Jason (Fergus & Geronimo), Jonathan Clancy (His Clancyness), Dent May (of, um, Dent [...]

After all of those lonely solo shows, the great Ryan (and his silky baritone voice) is finally back in action. This weeks playlist was pruned and handpicked by the man himself, so you know it's good. Don't forget to come out to the Granada Theater on the 10th for Jay Reatard, Fergus & Geronimo, and Surfer Blood. 1) Memory Tapes - Plain Material 2) Naomi Punk - The Sun 3) Jay Reatard - Fluorescent Grey 4) Fergus & Geronimo - Blind [...]
You heard it here first! In a joint effort, Crossroads of America Records and Flannelgraph Records (both from Bloomington) are releasing a series of records on 33 CDs that will be released monthly (2 releases per month) as a year long subscription service called the Laminar Excursion Monthly . Lots of the bands involved frequently play here in Louisville, so it [...]

Desolation Wilderness - Boardwalk Theme Finstämd shoegaze från Amerika och låten är från albumet Universe .
Desolation Wilderness - Boardwalk Theme 'Come Over in Your Silver Car' has become a firm favourite since I blogged about it February but already the band are back with a new album, New Universe, their second for K Records - and it makes for hazy nap-time music just as well. The trio will hit the UK next month, taking in London, Leeds, York, Nottingham and Belfast. MySpace Band blog Photo by julinemeo , licensed [...]

Tonight was a sleepy Sunday night out in the LES, but Cake Shop was moderately full for a night of solid, diverse bands. After a late start and what seemed like (and later sounded like) some sound issues, German Measles took the stage. I really like this band's songs, and I'd seen them before in a different permutation as Beachniks. But the whole thing was an absolute joke. They utterly, unenthusiastically plodded their way through kind of good lo-fi tunes, acting as if they couldn't care less. It was completely boring, and not ironically interesting. This is a [...]

Desolation Wilderness , everyone's favorite Olympia, Washington-based shoegazers, have announced a fall tour of the US in support of its latest release, New Universe , released last month on K Records . Call us lazy but, the band outfit describes itself as follows: "Desolation Wilderness is a West Coast band. They left the parking lots and the malls, the high schools and the valleys, and found their home at the summer night overlook. Taking the sounds of the cities below and amplifying them into a pitched resonance, they write slow burners and warped guitar/synthesizer/vibraphone ballads influenced [...]

As a few of you know, I have a few musical projects that take up a lot of my time, and one of them is the indie-folk band Bro. Stephen which is on tour right now and will be through October which will keep me out of Louisville for quite some time. Now, you will have to excuse the shameful self-promotion because this really isn’t about me. This is about all of the bands that I’ve met and will meet along the way and who you should check out and support in hopes that we can lure a [...]
