Tweet I, for one, am loving the Scandinavian synthesizer renaissance that's been delivering all kinds of flavors and textures of progressive, expansive electronic music lately. From Múm to Tough Alliance and even Detektivbyrån, it's evident that software and synth-pads are becoming as integral as strings and skins. Korallreven , I'm glad to say, isn't rocking the boat. The Swedish duo has just released their new album, "An Album By Korallreven" . What they've done is mix many of the structural elements of [...]

Swedish folktronica outfit Detektivbyrån is a trio consisting of Anders "Flanders" Molin (accordion, music box), Jon Nils Emanuel Ekström (drums, sound box, bells) and Martin Molin (glockenspiel, traktofon, keys). Strange as it may sound, their music is like a perfect crossover between Ratatat and Beirut . Their unusual mix of accordion (with melodies often reminiscent of Yann Tiersen), glockenspie, percussion, programmed beats and the occasional keyboard/synth feels very polished but also utterly spontaneous and natural. After putting out a couple of brilliant EPs and touring all around their native [...]

It took two tries and was a long time coming, but my interview with Detektivbyran, my current favorite instrumental band, is finally here. I sent the questions, both your questions and mine, to the band right as they embarked on their tour for Wermland , and Anders was kind enough to sit down and answer the majority of them. I found all kinds of interesting stuff while reading it and I'm sure you will too. I've been trying to do something more than simple artist spotlights and album reviews lately, and I think this is a very good first [...]

Detektivbyrån is a three-piece instrumental band from Sweden. Their second album, Wermland , is full of wonderful folk-oriented songs that remind me of Amélie and (for some strange reason) Harry Potter . The album's opener, "Om Du Möter Varg" sounds like something out of a fantasy movie, indicating the beginning of a magical journey. In a way, that is how I would describe most of Wermland . It is a fantastic exploration; and the accordion, music box, bells, toy piano, xylophone, keyboard, and countless other instruments provide the lively sound and textures to the journey. [...]

This is shaping up to be a fairly significant week for American releases (in indie circles, at least), but that particular rollout won't begin rolling out until the morrow.... For now, then, we have three Swedes calling themselves DETEKTIVBYRAN . I have decided to translate that as BYRAN THE DETECTIVE . I have decided that "Byran" is Sweden's answer to "Encyclopedia Brown." Or maybe one of "The Hardy Boys," if there was only one Hardy Boy. (Let's go with Parker Stevenson's "Frank," not Shaun Cassidy's "Joe" -- poor Parker had to endure [...]

I don't about you, but there's been exciting time over at my end. We finally released our label's online store, which is getting slow, but steady traffic. No one's downloaded the albums for free yet, with the lowest being a couple bucks, so, while we're still at the super beginning stages, I'm still more than happy to see people supporting LemonDrop and our artists out of the pure love of music and proving people wrong that not everyone will just download it for free. But that's for another day. The current exciting news is that Jon from Detektivbyran [...]

This week on the show, music giants collide and acoustic rock from beyond the Great Divide. It's been almost 30 years since David Byrne and Brian Eno have made music together, and their new album-- Everything That Happens Will Happen Today --looks a lot different than the last piece of album space these guys shared, My Life In the Bush of Ghosts . And we've also got music from two new Mount Eerie Releases: Dawn and Lost Wisdom . Dawn features Mount Eerie in one of its rawest representations, while [...]
There's something about the texture of Detektivbyrån's music. Don't take this the wrong way, but maybe Tim Burton should ask the Swedish trio to score his next film. The band specializes in an instrumental mix of acoustic and electronic sounds. The timbres of the music bring on visions of cribs and mobiles, but there's something very adult swim the chord progressions. All in all, it's cute music--don't know if you're into that. If you're not, this might change your mind. The band's next album, Wermland, is set for a release of September [...]

Earfood for all the people who still believe that somewhere behind their wardrobe is a fairyland, where Alice from wonderland, Peter Pan and Momo are having teeparties and cooking our dreams, for all the people that refuse to get old, for all who are hiding their toys from childhood under their beds to get them up when nobody sees it. Detektivbyrån just released their debutalbum "Wermland" which might be the perfect soundtrack for daydreamers. It can't be denied that the tracks are reminding to a certain extent of Yann Tiersen but this analogy ends [...]
Finally album debut of Detektivbyrån will be released on September 3rd. Title: Wermland. 14 tracks I've been following the "making of" of this release @ youtube, and I've been really excited about it. If you haven't heard about this band check the new 2 tracks they have posted on their website and myspace . For me the sound of this band is the closest to Yann Tiersen (circa Amelie).... Worth it! Finalmente el álbum debut de Detektivbyrån será lanzado el 3 de Septiembre. Título: Wermland, contiene 14 tracks. [...]

Detektivbyran, arguably my favorite instrumental band, finally finished their newest album, Wermland , and I'm more than excited to get my hands on it. They posted two new songs over at their myspace, so here's my heads up to all of you to go over there asap and give them a listen. "Om Du Moter Vag" is a nice upbeat song that falls in line with their past music, full of the vintage Detektivbyran accordian and even features a neat synth line towards the end. "Neonland" is much quieter, consisting of mainly xylophones, vibraphone sounding synths, and subtle beats [...]
