Okay, it's been two weeks since my last post. I should come clean and tell you all why. The truth is that I've spent the past 14 days in a detox rehab facility undergoing....just bullshitting you, the horribly uninteresting truth is that I've just been busy as all hell with school and settling in to my new house. The fact that Halo 3 came out had absolutely nothing to do with the lack of updates at all...nope, not one bit. Incidentally, if anyone out there wants to play co-op campaign on Halo 3 with me send me a [...]

Try to imagine this: Devo meets David Bowie , asks him to take on lead vocals for them, firms up their Duran Duran riffs, and then proceeds to rock out some retro-new wave dance music like its 1980. Only it's not 1980, it's September 25th, 2007, the band's name is SLAVE to the SQUAREwave , and they've released their new album Big Change . The band first formed back in 1990 in Toronto when singer Colin Troy and keyboardist Rob Stuart were each playing solo sets at a rave, [...]

First up is a track from Myriad Creatures, a Berlin based four-piece who originally came from London but moved abroad perhaps to gain themselves a bit of Lou/Beatles/Cave chic. The Hero is their first release on London's Jackalope label, and is rather a nice bit of post-punk infused 60s pastiche which goes in about five directions at once and makes a fair go of all of them. Reminds me somewhat of Mystery Jets, but maybe a little more serious and art-conscious. It also makes me think of the 90s. Don't ask me why. Curious stuff. [...]
You have probably figured out by now, I like posting mixes. There are so many blogs out there that will give you the newest, latest & greatest tracks. I would rather culminate my favorites and... [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more! ]]
The Roots - Din Daa Daa Devo - S.I.B. (Swelling Itching Brain) Ramsey & Co - Love Call [Harvey's Mix]

First I want to apologize for everyone for my lack of posts. I started back to school last week, and on top of that I work two jobs. So I've been slammed big time. For todays issue of the Wednesday rewind, we ditch the boombox and cardboard, and grab our friendly synth, and make sweet music. We also get personal... but not in the "in your face" sort of way. While I dig 80's music in general, I particularly like synth music, and especially New Wave 80's. So I hope you throughly enjoy listening to my mini-mix (if it were [...]

Other blogs might cover SXSW in Austin, CMJ in New York or Lollapalooza in Chicago but who would travel out to Cleveland to cover the DEVOtional (a yearly Devo convention)? That's right dear readers, the Midwestern Housewives! So to be honest I'm not a massive Devo fan (or Devotee as they're called) but when I was offered a trip out to Cleveland I [...]

This one seems pretty obvious for me, since it shares its namesake with my beautiful girlfriend and I seem to be in a indie pop / Swedish music phase right now. I heard about the band from the always fantastic Matt at Skatterbrain , and I've been enjoying the extra jangly pop sounds of their new album ever since picking it up emusic last week. If the starry band name and dreamy album title don't already give you the hint, this music is full of sublime, transcendent and otherwise heavenly moments. [...]

I was cooking with the TV on over the weekend, and a commercial came on featuring music that sounded vaguely familiar yet not. I was sort of zoned out at the time, so it took a few seconds for me to look up and realize it was a Devo tune. A NEW DEVO TUNE. I thought, nah, I must just not remember the name of this song. After all, I had just interviewed Jerry Casale back in June and he had stated quite clearly that Mark Mothersbaugh had no interest in recording new material under the Devo moniker. [...]
I'm (surprisingly) rather digging this new Devo tune, as featured in the latest ad for Dell's XPS notebook. Check out the full commercial below and a classic Devo MP3 at bottom. MP3: Devo - Secret Agent Man

(Photo Cred )( mp3's in red ) Fujiya & Miyagi @ the South Street Seaport. 7.6.07 Fujiya & Miyagi put on a funky little indie-electro set at Pier 17 last night ( Black Moth Super Rainbow opened) as part of the Downtown NYC River to River Festival . They played tracks from " Transparent Things " [buy it here] , including crowd favorites " Ankle Injuries ", " Sucker Punch " and " Collarbone ". As I was heading down to [...]
W hatcha doing today? Amy, Hailey, and I will be heading over to Ribfest a little later today. Not sure if we are going to check out any music today, but The Psychedelic Furs are playing on Monday so we'll probably go see 'em. The Furs are one of the bands that my uncle Craig included on a mix CD he made many years back for me called Uncle's Primordial Soup . The disc also featured tracks (mostly new-wave and post-punk) from Mission of Burma, The Clash, The Ramones, The Cure, Joy [...]
Dear God, I forgot to do the weekly news update this weekend. What in the world was I thinking, going out and having a life instead of compiling various stories from one end of the Internet to the other end? Where do I get off writing about my life and not other people's lives? I mean really, the nerve of some people... I don't remember who IM'd this article to me (you can do that if you want, there's a link to my screen name somewhere on this front page), but it's certainly a unique news [...]

It's not a great sign that Spinner's list of the "20 Best Gibberish Lyrics begins (at #20, that is) with a line from "Icky Thump". "Yah-hee, icky thump" is gibberish, but is it good gibberish? They say they've collected "examples of rock at its most poetic". With a list that includes songs by The Spice Girls, Whitney Houston, and Kid Rock they may not say "poetic" with tongue entirely in cheek, but it's at least partly there. The list also includes, well, quality gibberish" - Little Richard's "Tutti Frutti" is #1 and [...]

I mentioned this group in my last post . And I realized how incredibly reductive I sounded in describing the new oM music. My apologies for that. Please take a bite outta Side Two (below) from their 1978 debut and forget I said anything at all. Too Much Paranoias mp3 . I got an email from someone asking about Urgh! and I thought that in an effort to make things a bit more streamlined and easy to navigate, Id make this post which includes every single song from the Urgh! soundtrack as well as some bonus ones. I'm not the most organized person in the world, and it shows in the haphazard nature in which these tracks were originally put up. I hope this makes things a little easier for everyone. And if anyone is still looking for the long-deleted Urgh! Yahoo! Group (wow [...]
