As we announced earlier, the Rolling Stone Metal Awards are back. The fourth edition of the annual celebration of Indian metal awesomeness saw several entries, and the nominees for the awards have now been announced. The list sees Mumbai thrash metal act Devoid and Kochi metalcore group Heretic score high with six nominations each, including nods for Best Band, Best Album, Best Song and Best Vocalist. Devoid's recent EP The Invasion (check out a review and pics from the launch gig) and Heretic's full length release Words To [...]
The Indiecision Five at 5 is our attempt at sharing our musical tastes with you, and showcasing music from around the world. Each weekday at 5pm sharp, one NH7 writer or staffer will bring you five songs he/she is listening to on the day. Today, resident photo ninja/hungry person/coffee addict Shalaka Pai brings you tracks that she's falling in love with. Plug n' play, bitches. 1. How To Destroy Angels_ - 'Ice Age' So there I was, idly letting the semi-drone sounds of Welcome Oblivion , How To Destroy Angels_' [...]
Devoid fall in the dead-zone between death and thrash metal. Their sound has a tendency to fork into groove metal territory, but only slightly so. Their last full length release was their 2010 debut, A God’s Lie . Released on Demonstealer Records, A God’s Lie was 37 minutes of borderline thrash metal revivalism, but I wouldn’t go as far as to call it old-school. There were sections that bordered on hummability, but they weren’t prevalent enough to warrant the ‘melodic’ tag. There were sections during which the tempo was halved, but even these [...]
Mumbai metal band Devoid released their EP The Invasion earlier this month (photos here ). The band also streamed the EP on NH7.in exclusively for a day just before it was launched. Devoid had announced The Invasion earlier last year and spent most of their time getting the right sound for the EP. Right before the release of the EP, Devoid were at That Studio in Sion, Mumbai, rehearsing in order to get their sound to match the sound they've achieved on the record. This means hours [...]
The Indiecision Five at 5 is our attempt at sharing our musical tastes with you, and showcasing music from around the world. Nikhil Udupa's got something to say today. Where is the anger? It annoys me to no end to see today's kids be all happy and fluorescent I mean what the fuck is there to be happy about. The world around us is being flushed down a shithole and our response is synth-based revivalist pop? This is dedicated to the ones still pissed off. Dear kids, Hardcore will never die. But you will. [...]
Here it is! As we reported yesterday , Mumbai metal band Devoid 's new EP The Invasion will be streaming on NH7.in from Friday, February 1 to Saturday February 2 on NH7.in as part of an exclusive pre-release stream . The EP is about about “annihilation by the hands of beings from a much more advanced cluster of planets mistaken previously (by us) to be our Gods," and was announced by the band back in 2012. The EP will be available for streaming from noon to noon and will see its official release on Sunday, February 3 [...]

Mumbai metal band Devoid are releasing their EP The Invasion on Sunday, February 3 at the Blue Frog Metal Nights in Mumbai. The band had announced the EP earlier last year, telling us that it is a concept EP about "annihilation by the hands of beings from a much more advanced cluster of planets mistaken previously (by us) to be our Gods." The band will be streaming the EP on NH7.in for 24 hours from noon on February 1 to noon on February 2 (12 pm), in order to give fans a taste of what [...]
Everything that happened at the Salt Water Creek Festival from January 18 to January 20, in New Bombay, is now on NH7.in. Check it out.
There was a time when the only live concerts in New Bombay took place in a forgotten corner of the city, close to a marsh. The venue was a glorious and dilapidated back room in the Marine Centre, a club that has something to do with the navy or the sea or whatever. The only other concerts would take place at the occasional college festival, but those were limited in scope and number. It was a surprise, therefore, when we heard of the city hosting a three-day music festival that kicks off on Friday, January 18 and will go on [...]
After giving away the party starting " Booty Bounce ," and being featured on A-Trak's Tuna Melt EP , GTA return with a double dose of their dynamic sound on their People Boots EP . "People Boots" builds with thumping, groovy bass until an eventual wave of high octane horns take control. Subtly loaded with energy, the title track is fit for late night affairs - a true dance floor magnet. Less subtle, however, is "Devoid," an intricate, bouncy beat centered around riffs and once again, bassline. Hot off of Chris Lake's Rising imprint, purchase GTA's [...]
W.O.R.M.E stands for "World Of Rock, Metal and Electronica", according to the official Facebook page of the Nokia Lumia W.O.R.M.E Festival. The idea behind establishing this world of rock, metal and electronica, according to the same page, is to create a hub where artists from different spaces can interact and share music and talk to other artists and find out what is happening in the independent space in India. The organisers say, "The primary objective of WORME is to support, engage and promote artists and grow the music scene in India," and the reason they have launched the [...]

Ayan De has produced some of the best EPs I have heard recently. The Lightyears Explode 's self-titled EP ( download ) as well as Blek 's Hexes+Drama And Other Reasons For Evacuation ( stream ) were both produced by him. He is also currently producing bands like Devoid and Solar Deity, and has previously worked with Goddess Gagged , The Colour Compound , Siddharth Basrur , The Riot Peddlers and Null Friction . There has been a recent upswing in the number of bands who are working with De. [...]
Mumbai metal act Devoid will be releasing a new EP this year. The band has been fairly quiet in 2012, playing a few gigs in the city and have just entered the studio to lay down tracks for songs that will feature in the EP. We spoke to vocalist Arun Iyer to find out about the EP and what the band plans to do once the EP is released, The theme of the EP is annihilation by the hands of beings from a much more advanced cluster of planets mistaken previously (by us) to [...]

Rolling Stone India hosted the second edition of its Metal Awards at the Blue Frog in Mumbai on Sunday, June 20. The event featured performances by Pune's Noiseware , New Delhi's Artillerie , and local metal acts Exhumation and Bhayanak Maut . As reported previously , a total of 12 awards were up for grabs. Unlike the 2o1o awards, when Mumbai hardcore act Scribe swept the Critics' choice categories, this year's winners were more evenly divided. New Delhi metal act Undying Inc picked up three awards, followed by two for [...]
After calling for entries earlier this year, Rolling Stone India has listed its nominees for the second edition of the magazine's annual metal awards. Awards in eight categories are up for grabs, and public voting via Facebook for three categories ( Best Metal Band , Best Metal Song and Best Metal Album ) has already begun with the voting closing on June 10. Each category has a maximum of five nominees and a total of 13 bands are in the fray. The award ceremony is scheduled to be held in Mumbai on June 19. [...]

British extreme metal act Cradle of Filth played a one-city tour of India recently at the Palace Grounds in Bangalore. They were supported by domestic acts Blind Image, Devoid , and Inner Sanctum . Heavy showers the previous night meant that soundchecks were postponed to the day of the gig, resulting in a slow start. With the relative lack of marketing around the event, it was not surprising that the organizers had taken a pessimistic view of audience turnout and reduced the size of the FOH area. Chennai band Blind Image kicked things off featuring Travis [...]
The second edition of Deccan Rock will be held on May 6 and 7 in Hyderabad. Day 2 will be headlined by Polish progressive death metal act Decapitated (pictured on home page). The lineup features ten international acts from within the subcontinent, Europe and the Middle East. Among them are repeat visitors NERVECELL and Cyanide Serenity, both acts that have toured the country in 2010. Two-day tickets are priced at an extremely reasonable Rs 1,000. The first edition of Deccan Rock was held in Bangalore in 2009, and featured metal heavyweights Amon Amarth and Textures. [...]

The war against pesky telemarketers just got real. Do Not Call registries are for wimps. Haven't you always wished you could unleash a few bars of 'Dismembering The Fallen' or 'Suicidal Corpse' upon the unsuspecting call-center drone? Well, now you can. Demonstealer Records and Artistaloud.com are offering a variety of metal tunes that can be assigned as Caller Ring Back Tones via SMS shortcode. Most major service operators are supported (Airtel, Vodafone, Idea, Reliance, Loop, TATA Docomo and MTS). As of now, a selection of tracks from IIIrd Sovereign, Albatross , Demonic Resurrection , Devoid [...]
Seems like it's a good time to be in a metal band in Mumbai. After the emergence of the kvlt, Razz-like B69 , there's news of a metal gig at the idyllic open air amphitheatre at Land's End, Bandra. Bhayanak Maut , Demonic Resurrection , Devoid and Bloodshed will play the cozy venue on December 26 . Given the stadium seating, moshing might be especially injurious to health. Check out pics from a previous metal-ish gig at the venue featuring Scribe [...]
