Kid Smpl 's Skylight project dropped back in 2012, but today we are being treated with its accompanying remix album. Enlisting a number of producer colleagues, Kid Smpl's vision is transformed by equally as progressive beatsmiths. Included on the list of producers are Dream Koala, devonwho and Jerome LOL, who all do a fine job of making these originals their own. Iran-born, Scotland-bred producer Soosh released his latest effort, the Colour Is Breathe LP, earlier this year on Error Broadcast. And as a quick follow-up, he's enlisted some killer talent to remix tracks off the album. The term overture generally refers to the instrumental opening to an opera. Wires For Salu is Devonwho's new side project. On April 16, Wires For Salu's "Overture" will feature on Dropping Gems' Gem Drops 3 compilation, the first of the series to be pressed to vinyl. Devonwho and Dropping Gems are two of our favorite fixtures on the West Coast, so this project is relatively exciting (read: very much so). While Devonwho's music trends towards blunted beats, Wires For Salu inhabits a more downtempo, cerebral realm. Sort of like an overture or something.

The first thing you'll hear on DJAO' s remix of Devonwho 's "Strangebrew" is a sound that goes like "weyyowww". It may be a bit difficult to pronounce but it sounds nice, believe me. The Seattle producer takes the original into a different, more subdued direction, which works if you're reading this from an area that's currently Do The Right Thing hot. Weyyowwws are laid-back, which is what we need when nodding your head to a beat might cause a stroke.
