So I've done a remix by DFA before, and it went over pretty well. They have a way of breaking apart a song, and bringing it down to it's most basic nature, then rebuilding it back to its original form one piece at a time (more like one minute at a time). DFA are known for some really lengthy remixes. Ten minutes into the mix, I forgot I was still listening to it. It does that to you; it shatters the perception of what a song is supposed to be. And I like it, I like it a lot. The [...]
One of my favourite pop songs of the year has had the DFA Remix treatment. Yes, Tim Goldsworthy has morphed Swedish pop sex kitten Lykke Li's breakthrough single 'Little Bit' into a nine and a half minute floor filler. Pretty good it is too. Download link below. Lykke Li's debut album Youth Novels is out now. mp3:> Lykke Li: 'Little Bit (Loving Hand Remix)'

after a many a listen recently, im still not 100% sold with this full on disco stuff... i do love listening to it- but would it fill out a d-floor? i know that in a few months such a question will seem stupid in one way or another but after so many moons of bangerszszsz can people get as pumped up about disco??? (i guess people will get pumped about whatever everyone else is getting pumped about) i really have no idea, and for now i think that it would be good to play/hear 'transitional' or new-wave disco.. [...]

Here's an interesting one... DFA's ever reliable Death From Abroad offshoot is to release a compilation of Berlin-based label Supersoul Recordings. The press release explains all: "'Nobody Knows Anything' is a collection of tracks that Berlin based Supersoul Recordings has put out via vinyl and digital in their first two years of existence. The label was founded by Xaver Naudascher in 2006 and its stylistic identity revolves around the cornerstones of electronic dance music: Krautrock, Italo Disco, Electro, Chicago House and Detroit Techno. Every artist [...]
Jesus, It seems like an eternity since we posted something on the blog and sadly it has been. But either way we're happy to be back and though it's been a crazy few busy weeks, we still managed to run away to New York for the weekend and catch some of DFA's finest over at PS1 . With a full house in front of them, James Murphy and Pat Mahoney spun some Disco classics and early House to a crowd of "too cool for school" New Yorkers, Art lovers, overjoyed fans and some people just dancing their [...]

Sorry No Sunday It's been a couple of days since my last post so I apologize for the no Sunday Post yesterday. I am gonna start off the week with a little bit of unknown club electro with an Njoi and Electrasonic remix of Kush. When I tried to search out 'Kusk Myspace' I was inundated by all the usual idiotic weed related DJ's, MC's and metal bands but to no avail. All of these cats are new to me and I only jumped on this one in the [...]

Chromeo, Fancier Footwork (Vice Records, 2008) MP3 : "I Am Somebody" It's only been a year since the release of Chromeo 's Fancy Footwork , and now Vice Records graces us with a deluxe edition to commemorate the occasion (read: are cashing-in). Putting aside the question of whether this is even necessary, or why anyone would try to market a deluxe edition to the generation that will [...]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =eAev1ZjE3dI Hot Chip, "One Pure Thought" (Astralwerks/DFA, 2008) The beginning sort of checks "Something So Strong" by Crowded House, and Hot Chip guy even sounds like a Finn brother there for a minute. But then the rest of the dudes start plinking on his cartoon head, and this clip for "One Pure Thought" is suddenly all Hot Chip all the time. The band's flair for quirk is part of its appeal; it's part of what makes them occasionally annoying, too, [...]

At its core, the debut effort from Hercules and Love Affair, the brainchild of NYC-based DJ Andy Butler, is a great dance album. But there are a number of elements at work here that elevate the record from "just great" to "awe-inspiring". Co-produced by this decade's go-to electronic guru Tim Goldsworthy (Cut Copy, The Rapture, LCD Soundsystem), the album is as much a sincerely personal piece of detailed work as it is a solid collaborative effort. With its feet firmly cemented to the ground, Hercules and Love Affair references the many eras of dance [...]

Since i am in New York I just had to make the first post from here Big Apple related and since i bought this record today in a little shop in Brooklyn and its from a New York label then it just seemed like fate... Holy Ghost - Hold On got a release in October last year.. but it still gets the odd blog mention .. I was late picking it up myself but since hearing it on an Eli Escobar mixtape I've had this track in my head non stop. [...]
If you punch a Giant Panda in the eye does it go white? No doubt WWF would have something to say about conducting an experiment, but it can't deny that in a similar way to "who would win a fight between a Lion and a Tiger?", these questions need answers. OK teenagers hey Panda don't answer these burning questions (yet), but they do answer one question in the affirmative, are there any good bands in Halifax? Yes Halifax. Previous Halifax musical output has been limited to that bespectacled [...]

Being my first post here on Road 2 Nowhere, I thought I'd post my Top 10 tracks of all time. Granted this is an ever changing, never stable list... So it's more of a snap shot. Its still an excellent view of my personal tastes in music. My tastes are very diverse from old school rock n' roll, new dance beats, soulful country... I love it all. If a song makes me dance, feel, or think I love it. So on with the list... Enjoy! 10. [...]

Image by flight404 The signal went dead here for about 10 months. To the subscribers that stuck around, I appreciate it. I'm offering this 80 minute mix (3x longer than usual) as a humble apology for the absence... I know its not really summer yet, but I always get summer mixes when the leaves are falling off the trees. So I am seeding this one early. Full disclosure: there really isn't anything summery about it. Just a lot of my favorite tracks. [...]

I need help guys. Seriously, I do. I am trying to come up with a really great (nothing short of kick-ass, if you will) mixtape for a buddy of mine that is moving into a house with his besties. Need less to say a moment like this is monumental in a young adult's life. Moving in general is one helluva step. Getting a house with friends is even more so. My plans for this mixtape, as with most mixtapes, is simple - to capture, in multiple tiers of songs, the emotion and the feeling that is conjured up by such [...]

Gorillaz - Dare (DFA remix) In true DFA fashion, this remix of Gorillaz' 'Dare' features ample cowbell, a penetrating beat and a clock-in time of close to ten minutes. Would you expect anything less from James Murphy & the gang? Enjoy the funky remix below. Keep up to date on all things DFA here. This has to be the most songs I've posted at a single time in quite a while, but I just wanted to pass them along. Two sets of 5 tracks, the first set being remixes and upbeat songs with the second a collection of instrumentals. All excellent. ::: Justice - D.A.N.C.E. (MSTRKRFT Remix) ::: Yazoo - Don't Go (Quarterbar Rum Remix) ::: Teddybears - Cobrastyle (Diplo Remix) ::: Panther - Use Your Mouth To Breathe ::: Thunderheist - Suenos Dulces [...]
