I occassionally post about music and music-related stuff over at Booooooom , and the other day I wrote about the magnificent Diane Cluck and her Song a Week Project . She has until January 30th to reach her goal. Read my piece right over here and listen to the track below. Diane Cluck - Petite Roses
A discussion about the evolution of the District's music scene through the decades will likely at some point touch upon the numerous DIY spaces that have hosted countless shows featuring new and established bands alike. These days however, it seems the discussion seems to be most often about how rare and shortlived these spaces are anymore. While there are still many unofficial venues still hosting shows, they often tend to evaporate after just a handful of attempts. Enter Hume's Britton Powell, a man who's commitment to the DIY space runs deep. Kicking off the summer, Powell hosted a [...]

It's a busy week this week, and actually I am quite happy with this fact. Sometimes busy weeks of gigs feel like a forest of looming obligations, but I don't think there's anything I feel any real guilty pressure to attend this time around, so this week may for once be assigned to fun and fun alone. Having delivered a shitty Summer, Edinburgh is doing its usual trick of starting Autumn brilliantly. It is cold now, but the sun has been dazzling, leaving me wondering why I didn't spend more time in the garden this Summer. The answer, [...]

Well the mammoth video nightmare of the last week is nearly over. This week I will be working in the Meursault tour diary from when they went away to the North of England for a few days in our big green van. They recorded some excellent sessions while they were touring, including three songs in the back of the van from some campsite in, erm, Lancashire somewhere I think, and also a few songs at a bandstand in Newcastle. The tour diary itself might just be mental, and but for some judicial editing could easily become the most offensive musical [...]

Image: gardenpainter4 A Phoenix and Doves - Diane Cluck This happens to me all the time. Someone speaks warmly about a song. They call it a best, a favorite, an influence, even something that's changed their life. And I think, I must hear that! Get me that song right now! And then I realize: I already have it, I've already heard it. I [...]
